Sorry for being negative again. But my travels in Andalucia revealed a depressing fact. That a great deal of these all night Juergas a fuiled by Cocaine, and of course booze, as a former Coke addict and alcoholic, this means these places are off limits, what a shame, as the really good flamenco useually happens late at night when everyone is tanked up. The guitarists tend to take it easy on the drink, but love the Charlie. Some can handle it without getting addicted but for me it was a disaster althoug I did enjoy my time at Ricardos in Almunecar, but everyone there was on the juice including an English guy. RE: Cocaine and flamenco (in reply to paco picado

I think maybe it's the same world over - certainly when I was involved with the samba scene in Brasil, there was a lot of Coke - they used to line it up on the drums. I think I'm fortunate I was never tempted to try it - and God knows what it might be cut with in Rio de Janeiro!

I like a drink or two (but not til I'm falling over) and have no desire to do anything that messes with my head - it's messy enough......basically I'm naturally so hyper I behave like I'm on stuff even though I'm not. If I took coke I'd be way out of control.

It must be hard to feel you should avoid situations where you could be tempted. I've done some work in the health service with substance misusers (as the politically correct term goes!) and they have a tough time, not an easy ride.

That's an intersting story.
So they are REAL people ? With REAL people habits ?

Jeez, and I thought the flamenco world was some kind of euro-disney, fantasy paradise. Oh my God, that's a bummer.

Yeah that's a good point Bash. Actually the pressures of living in general can seem quite enough!!

Most of the people I've worked with who used drugs were not 'bad people', they just got themselves into a cycle of behaviour which was harmful to themselves.

In case you missed it, there are millions of people in every profession
who do coke and other drugs.

You name it. I know tons of people who do coke, and none of them
play flamenco, or are even from Spain.

So dont pin the drug use crap on Flamenco's. In comparison to american
rockers, they are light wieght users.

I cant even believe you would bring that up here.
Unbelievable.

"were not" is a good way to put it, I've been unfortunate enough to have been
related to a few of these. Substance abuse can indeed make good people turn
into bad people, and bad people into worse people.

Partying and living the good life can be fun, but when you watch somebody
pour their life into the sewer, and then go spend the rest of their life in that
same sewer you lose your feeling of sympathy, and pity, and it eventually
turns into disgust.

Sorry, a few people who meant something to me at points in life have done
just that, and it's a pet peeve of mine now.

Tragically, some times people like this, then have kids who then become just
like they are. Thus making it a tragedy that keeps echoing.

Jeff

I spent my youth in search of the best acid and the hippest joints. Now, at 58, I'm into antacid and hip joints. It's a whole different way of thinking.

Yeah Jeff I've seen that with the people I worked with - it's awful for relatives and friends who can see with some objectivity what is happening, but are powerless to stop it. I remember particularly one mother, who knew her son was dying from the damage he had done to his body. She had always assumed her son would outlive her, and she had to come to terms with knowing she would see him die first.

The biggest high is to work hard to give somebody something which they truly need and then for the love it took to satisfy it to be recognised and accepted.

Whether it is a piece of music to a stranger or a cup of tea for a loved one.

I dont know what to add to this thread you are all right

stuck for words..

I shouldnt advice anyone on what to writte about since i writte about some of the silliest things but....

i would really avoid using names here, or pointing fingers, infact i would delete that paco picado, cause "my friend said" is not enough prof to make that kind of remark here, (even if it was, is not really something we wanna discuss here is it ?) u never ever know who is reading, i have learned that first hand.

we get about 300 to 500 unregistered people that read our posts every day, all the subjects come up in google if you search so u can imagine the kind of unwanted attention and implications something that starts harmless enough can turn into for the guitarists involved and the foro, i mean this is a pretty damn serious subject here with the possibility of causing some pretty damn serious damage.

Yeah I'm with Flo on this one. Don't mind having a discussion about drug use in general (which as ToddK said is not limited to flamencos anyway), but we shouldn't name names, or make allusions to specific people. A lot of people will know who you are referring to PacoP.

DUDE, You have so crossed over the line with this thread. I am almost speechless.

First, I 100% agree with Florians comments ,thanks Man
"we get about 300 to 500 unregistered people that read our posts every day"
" i mean this is a pretty damn serious subject here with the possibility of causing some pretty damn serious damage".

Secondly, This is my flatmate and one of my best friends your are talking about.
I was so shocked to wake up and find this on the forum. Everyone knows that there are a lot of colourful characters with colorful histories in flamenco but...

Neither of the 2 quoted statements are true.

The flamenco world is very small indeed. You cant make a public allegation like that about anyone unless you really know what you are talking about. I know exactly what incident you are referring to and you are gravely mistaken. Rumour and stories are fine but you cant make a incriminating statement like that as a fact. We were with Paco on saturday and he would be pissed if he knew you were posting this! You are going to find yourself on the nasty end of a lawsuit if you dont retract this thread and comment right now

A couple of members have requested that this complete thread be deleted.
I'm not sure though, as I don't feel the Forum can be held responsible for statements by a particular person and which nobody can prove are true or false.
Therefore I feel that deletion would really amount to censorship, although obviously the final decision is with Simon as to whether this represents any legal threat to the Forum.

cheers,

Ron

Ron I don't think the entire thread needs to be deleted, just the reference to specific individuals who we know. Ideally PacoP would edit it himself. If not I think Simon should take some action.

Rest of the thread is fine. We all know drug taking goes on in flamenco, just like it does everywhere else.
