Here is a Japanese pressing of Paco playing live. I was hoping at first that this might be an unheard Japanese concert but it is simply another version of "en vivo desde el teatro real"

Here is another yet compilation LP entitled Entre dos aguas. It has been released by Olympo and contains the awful fake Entre dos Aguas track and the soleares and tarantos populares by Paco.

Finally for this week a really great addition. Its a Dutch LP called El Fabuloso Paco de lucia. Side 1 is comprised of 6 tracks from La fabulosa guitarra de paco de lucia and side 2 is comprised of 6 tracks from Fantasia Flamenca. Really nice cover photos of Paco with his conde negra. Its undated but im guessing it was made around 1970.

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Paul Magnussen

I had no LP storage problems before I decided to seriously research this subject. Who would have believed that Pacos discography would be anything like this large? To date we have listed around 510 items and it is still not finished. I am still finding more links to more material. However if anyone is interested in owning the (probably) largest collection of Paco de lucia records in the world, then please send me a message.

Its been a few weeks since any updates. It is now getting harder to find more new material but here are few more additions.

Way back on the first page of this thread we talked about the Paco Doble album with Paco Peña. There are 2 versions of this album that at first glance look very similar. Only next to each other are the differences more apparent.
The original Paco Doble album was later re-released as Music for the millions, Paco de Lucia - Paco Peña in 1983. Track listing is identical.

I found this beautiful Gatefold version of the guitar trios first 2 LPs online. It was released in 1987 under the title 2 great pop classics - John Mclaughlin, Al di Meola, Paco de Lucia

Disc 1 is Friday night in San Francisco (832 171-1)
Disc 2 is Passion, Grace and Fire (832 172-1)

The cover art work is very nice on this version. Inside the gate fold are the original covers to both "Friday night in San Francisco" and "Passion, Grace and fire"

Here is the Japanese version of Dos Guitarras Flamencas by Paco de Lucia and Ricardo Modrego. Its not dated but I am assuming it was produced around the same time as the European version in 1964. The front cover is very simple. Inside there is a 4 page booklet giving track information in Japanese.

Very observant. The disc itself only has one continuous track though and I wouldnt like to say where one track ends and the other starts

I found this undated Austrian compilation disc. It comes from a series called Folklore around the world and this disc is dedicated to Spain.

The festival Flamenco series is a bit confusing with different releases of the same material. We already listed the 1968 Philips release. I assumed it would have the same cover as the CD but it doesnt. Here is the original cover for the 1968 Festival Flamenco live album.

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

Here is an unusual Japanese 4 track EP.
The tracks are taken from 2 guitarras flamencas en America Latina.
1. Manana de Carnaval
2. Siboney
3. Malaguena Salerosa
4. Granada

The disc incorrectly credits these tracks to Paco de Lucia and Ricardo Modrego.
It should of course read Paco de Lucia and Ramon de Algeciras.

Here is another unlisted compilation LP with a great cover photo where Paco appears to be wearing one of Ricardos Shirts!!
Also the golpe plate is now starting to become loose around the edges which we dont see in earlier photos.

La Fabulosa Guitarra de Paco de Lucia was produced in 1981 and contains 10 tracks spanning Pacos career up until that time.
1. Entre dos Aguas
2. Tico Tico
3. Monasterio de Sal
4. Montiño
5. Punta del Faro
6. Danza (de la vida breve)
7. Solo quiero Caminar
8. El Vito
9. Rio Ancho
10. Castro Marin

How annoying of then to use that title. Better hope it doesn’t show up on Amazon, or it’s guaranteed to display all the reviews from the first solo album.

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Ricardo

You are right....this is getting quite confusing though.
The Festival Flamenco Gitano live album has no production date on the disc or sleeve. It was produced by Philips and the sleeve notes are in German. There is photo reference to La singla - Festival Flamenco Gitano'68 on the back so it must have been produced after 1968. It is exactly the same disc as Gran Festival Flamenco produced by L+R records which we listed. The sleeve the notes are in Spanish and they credit the recording date to 1969 and the release date was in 1981. The same disc was released on CD as Festival Flamenco Gitano Live 1 again by L+R in 1998. I will correct the date to 1969 on the original album.

"La singla - Festival Flamenco Gitano'68" also has Paco on it which I think was my point of confusion here.

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

The next point of confusion is that festival flamenco gitano vol 3. was produced before volume 1 in 1968. The version I have is the L+R release from 1986. I have tracked down and ordered a copy of the original Singla '68 recording to see if they are the same. If so it will explain the source of the 1986 release. Finally the Green festival flamenco gitano LP (Germany) seems to be a compilation of tracks from both discs but there is no release date on either the disc or sleeve.

Thanks for your patience to anyone following this.
Here is the new listing for these albums. Please check and correct.

I was pretty confident that all the EPs from the 60s had been tracked down and listed. I was therefore very surprised to find another unlisted EP with Pepe de Algeciras from 1966.
What is more strange is that this EP is not even mentioned anywhere else. I found it completely by accident and it must be pretty rare. It contains 4 more tracks with Paco and Ramon.

Here is another great cover and a rare edition.
Its the Japanese gatefold version of recital de Guitarra presumably from 1971
although the disc itself is undated. Track lists are the same but the cover photos are all new to me.

Pim, this is a fantastic collection. Not only of recordings but also of LP and CD sleeves.

My first contact with Paco's music was in the 70s from a Dos Guitarras Flamencas LP with a picture of a lush girl in a black mini-skirt sporting a sombrero, and kneeling with one knee on a beach somewhere ...

I can't quite recall wether I was more fascinated by the music or by the lady
Unfortunately I didn't keep the record, but I believe it was a Philipps edition (?)

Thanks Ed. This collection really has grown into something way beyond what I initially imagined when I started this thread.

I have not seen or heard of the cover that you are talking about but by coincidence I did find a copy of the original Dos Guitarras Flamencas LP last week. This is the original 1964 recording complete with its original red Philips inner sleeve.

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

In the early part of this thread we listed Paco playing with various non flamenco artists. One was the Jule Neigel band from Germany. Paco plays on a track called Paradies from the Album Sphinx. I managed to get a copy of the 1996 CD and find a link to the track.
The sound of the recording to me is very dry but unmistakeably Paco. The guitar solo starts around 2.50 although I have no idea how he got contracted to appear on such an obscure album. (although I believe the band were very sucessful in Germany)

But my best find for the year has got to be this!!!!

I actually found an original copy of Pacos first ever solo EP from 1964.
This was hidden in a box of sevillana records at a flea market. Its in remarkably good condition and comes with the original red Philips inner sleeve. It really completes the collection of EPs from 1964.

I know I have said this before but I really am trying now to bring this thread to a conclusion. There has been an enormous amount of material that has been tracked down and collated now and I'm finding very little new material now. Here are a few of the last remaining items.

First up is another unlisted album by Rocio Jurado that is simply called Rocio Jurado. The first track " No me des Guerra" comes from the 1968 EP with dual guitars of Paco de Lucia and Juan Gimenez.

This next post is simply for references to the covers (front and back) to disc that are already listed. I found a very good copy of Lolita Valderrama and Paco de Lucia EP "La flor que yo te entregue" 1964 BELTER 51.096. Previously I could only find a low resolution photo of the cover so im pleased I could find a copy.

I also found a copy of Los chiquitos de Algeciras EP volume 2 from 1961. The disc is Ok but the cover has some battle damage on the edge.

Needless to say that both discs were hard to find.

To tie up the section earlier on this page regarding the Festival Flamenco series, I finally recieved in the mail a copy of the LP La singla- Festival Flamenco Gitano '68. The mystery is finally over. This album is the original 1968 studio album that was re-released as Festival Flamenco Gitano volume 3. The photo set on the back is from the same session as the photo on the cover of the live recording from 1969.

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

Another unlisted cover here. This is the 1975 reissue of Fantasia Flamenca de Paco de Lucia. The track listing is identical to the original 1969 recording but the cover is much more conservative.

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

Here is another unlisted colaboration and another potential can of worms. This is the cover to the special tour edition CD and DVD of "No es lo mismo" by Alejandro Sanz. If one studies the booklet very carefully you can find hidden in the credits that Paco de Lucia features on track 10 - Regalame la silla donde te esperé.

Paco and Alejandro were good friends and its rumoured that Paco played on various tracks without being credited. I dont know if thats true and I really dont know enough about Alejandro Sanz' discography to say which tracks have Paco on them or not but im sure there are other tracks out there with Paco doing solos with Alejandro Sanz.

Paco also appears briefly for literally 2 or 3 seconds on the "making of" DVD that comes with this set.

Here is the whole track. Paco plays various flourishes throughout but the solo starts around 2:57 (with a brief cameo)
