RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

(FULL DISCOGRAPHY LISTED ON PAGE 8)
http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=253824&mpage=8&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1&key=

On Page 3 we listed a compilation from Germany but with no index numbers. I have updated this listing.
Paco de Lucia "Meister Der Spanischen Gitarre" (double LP) GERMANY 1983 PHILIPS 6695 001
(cassette PHILIPS 7585 001)

The 23 tracks are all from around 1965-73. The really nice thing about this double LP is the gatefold photo inside the cover.

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

Here are a few more items. Its finally getting harder to find unlisted material
I tracked down a copy of the LP Belo Horizonte by John Mclaughlin which we already listed. It contains the track Manitas D'Oro (little golden hands), a duet written by John for himself and Paco. I had not actually heard this track before. The Album came out in 1981 around the same time as Friday night in San Francisco. Its not actually a great composition but it does show us perhaps where Paco first got his inspiration for Zyryab 10 years later. I found a live performance of the track from 1981 that I had not seen before. Check out Paco at 2.34 and his crazy solo at 6.28! This musical idea developed by 1985 into "A meeting of the Spirits". In 1991 Paco released Zyryab which seems to me to have been an advanced development from these earlier improvisations.

Here is another unlisted compilation LP with the Track "Puente-Genil tierra mia" by Fosforito and Paco. Its listed as a "Zangano de Puente Genil" but its basically a variation of the Malagueña. Puente Genil is situated just inside the Cordoba Province but its right on the border of the Malaga Province.

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

I found another unlisted Fosforito compilation. This is also called "Libre quiero ser". Its a double LP with 24 tracks. 12 of them are credited as being accompanied by Paco de lucia. It was produced for Discolibro by Belter and has a very nice glossy gatefold cover. The title track "libre quiero ser" is listed on the 7" single as being accompanied by Juan Habichuela and also on the album of the same name but on the "Genio y solera" album it is listed as being accompanied by Paco. On this Album there is no credit to either guitar player so its a bit of a lottery to know exactly who accompanied Fosforito on this track. I think from listening to it a couple of times that it is not Paco.
Listen and see what you think.

Finally for this week a beautiful Japanese edition of early material with Ramon de Algeciras. Its a luxurious thick gatefold cover with a single disc and gilded in gold lettering. The 20 tracks are from Canciones Andaluzas, Dos guitarras Flamencas en HispanoAmerica and 12 hits para 2 Guitarras. There is no date on the disc but it must have been produced after 1969, Im guessing in the early 70´s

Finally for this week I found that there were 2 Versions of "En Vivo desde el Teatro Real" released. Both were released in 1975. The discs are identical but the original version (PHILIPS 91 13 001) is a single sleeve with a paper folder for the disc with a photo of the theatre interior on the folder. The second version is a special edition for "Discolibre". This is a gatefold version with the same photo printed in the Gatefold.

Here are two more unlisted LP Compilations from Belter. I am surprised at just how many records they produced and especially how many compilation albums they made. Both albums are Fandangos records.
"Nuevos Fandangos" contains the tracks "Deten tu Paso" Nina de la puebla and Paco de Algeciras and "Si Alguna vez existio" by Fosforito and Paco de Lucia. The same Fosforito track appears on "Fandangos Valientes" with another track "Razon de Ser".

I think it was a nice vehicle to "teach" paco the melodic minor modes Mclaughlin was using. MEETING of the Spirits was composed in 1971, and the concert you refer to (wrongly for the 2nd time, come on man!!! ) came out on lazer disc in 1985 maybe, but was recorded in 1979...Zyrab is mainly based on meeting of spirits but also some stuff of the 2nd trio disc (such as DAVID). Anyway, other than a sort of excersise in scale application, it is not much of a piece of music...the name was obviously poking fun at the famous Manitas de Plata.

Not much new to talk about recently. I found a nice copy of the Japanese version of Live....one summer night. I already had the European version. The discs are identical. In the European pressing, the disc comes in a paper sleeve with a band photo. The Japanese pressing has a note sheet in Japanese and Japanese cover slip.

I have discovered another unlisted track last week. I stumbled across it when I was looking for something else. We listed the track Oceano by Brazilian singer Djavan. However Paco also recorded on another track called "Puzzle of hearts" which features on the LP with the same name. The original Portuguese version of the track Oceano is also on this album.

I have found another unlisted track and yet another colaboration. This track is a song with Argentinian singer Alberto Cortez called "A mis amigos". I have added the youtube track. It is taken from the LP "Coincidencias" which is a collection of different colaborations with Alberto Cortez including Mercedes Sosa, Joan Manuel Serrat, Victor Heredia and others including Paco de Lucia.

Here are some more updates and rare editions this time.

First up is another unlisted LP to add to the Paco and Ricardo Modrego Section.
Its a USA pressing of "Dos guitarras flamencas en estereo" from 1965. It has been retitled "Guitars - Fantastic and Flamenco" but the track listing is the same as dos guitarras flamencas.
Actually the full name of the disc is Guitars - Fantastic and Flamenco - An exciting performance by world famous virtuosi Ricardo Modrego and Paco de Lucia - Recorded in Spain.

Here is a strange compilation LP of 70s hits by artists such as Sweet, Eric Clapton, David Soul, Bonnie tyler, Andy Gibb etc. It also contains (oddly) the track Danza ritual del Fuego by Paco de Lucia. The back of the LP has the most weird cut-out collage of 70s pop icons with one of Pacos publicity photos stuck in the middle (before the invention of Photoshop)

Finally for this week is a super rare unlisted recording. This is one of the best additions to my collection so far. RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

Here are a few more finds. First up is the cover to the FONTANA LP we already listed by Chato de la Isla. I corrected the date to 1969. It has 12 tracks in total. 4 are with the dual guitars of Paco and Ramon from the 1966 EP. The rest are with Ramon de Algeciras and must originate from an earlier LP. Ramon did at least 2 full 12 track LPs with El Chato.

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

Staying on the topic of Paco and Ramon, I found an original copy of the United Nations record from 1970 on ebay. It contains the very rare track "kojo no tsuki" which is a Japanese folk song. The melody is played by both guitarists who then turn it into a buleria. This track does not seem to appear anywhere else. Is there a verb for "turning something into buleria"....Bulerise, Buleriar????

I recently aquired a USB record deck that can digitize rare record tracks. I may be able to post a link to rare tracks if requested.

Staying on a Japanese theme here are a couple more Japanese editions. First is the Japanese pressing of La fabulosa Guitarra de Paco de Lucia.
