we were talking about him yesterday with a friend, and we knew it would probably happen soon, but i was hoping for a miracle... we've lost a great person, personality, someone who's given us so much...rest in peace Moraíto

Sorry Have to post before I log off but I have been listening to his Morao morao Lp and just to say wasn,t he the best player of Seguiriyas ever ! Some of my records in my collection I don,t play for years an years but Morao morao I played just five days ago . What I,m trying to say in a bad way is our kind words of tribute might not register with his family now but I hope one day they realise that out here the wider world there were people who did not kmow him but loved his music .
Peace and rest where ever his spirit is
Love and music

I feel privileged to have met him in sanlucar in 2007 after his concert accomp. jose merce. Manolo sanlucar and arcangel also performed. Errol (flamenco guru) caught this footage of the fin de fiesta and you can see Moraito and Manolo play together for Jose, arcangel and someone else singing, and Moraito dances as well! RIP Maestro!

what the ****?..... just 55... omg. I saw him at the bienal in Sevilla around a decade ago.. Thats very very sad. Definitively one of the major makers in flamenco. Damn..life is short. Lets enjoy it.

Woke up today and saw this news as a status update on facebook. Such a terrible loss for flamenco music. He was truly among my favorite guitarists. I have been playing his Morao y oro cd in my car for the past 6 months. Rest in peace Moraito.

How tragic. I'm probably the least knowledgeable members of this forum when it comes to performers, as I'm just starting in the world of Flamenco- yet I knew of him, and recognized him as a stellar performer. A cancer survivor myself, I am saddened to hear of this- and to realize who it was. Wes

I'm fighting back tears but it's difficult to explain to people here as most people have never heard of him in Australia.
I've been privileged to see him play many times, expressing compas with every cell of his body. He is the best answer I can think of to the question "what is flamenco?". Rest in peace.
i dont know how to embed that properly, but its a full episode of "puro y jondo" with jose merce and Moraito. its one of my favorite videos of Moraito so i wanted to share it (i didnt upload it)
hey Alo, I know exactly what you mean, not many of my friends have heard of him. I am working on that moraito falseta i learned a while back, maybe it will be nice for us both if I book a lesson soon and we go over that

Moraito was one of the few guitarists that could compose flamenco that appealed to both modern and traditional guitarists. His style kind of bridged the gap in a way.
It's great that so much of his art has been captured.
He came across like such a humble person, yet so full of character. And for me as a guitarist I feel I have learnt so much from listening and watching him play. I am very grateful for that and the enjoyment i have had trying to play his music.
I was in corte ingles in Madrid browsing through the flamenco Cds when i looked to my left and saw Moraito standing beside me. I thought wow! Moraito!!! I turned and spoke to him nervously, not sure how he would react. I needn't have worried, such a friendly person who took the time to come to the counter with me and wait while i asked the cashier for some paper and a pen.
