I sent a message to Simon asking him on the best way of doing this, I though a new section called Challenge Archive under Challenges where I could put 3 threads but I haven't heard back. Because it would be an archive of all 3 categories I did not want to put them under on of the already existing sections, it just did not fit there.

Suggestion?

Hi Leo,

It all fell apart anyway in the end, as the Foro got transferred to Captain Bob and folk got banned and stuff (including me).

Florian got it started up again at the beginning of the next year and that was the first Challenge to be completed.

cheers,

Ron

there's been two intermediates. one was a solea por bulerias, the other one was a moraito bulerias.

there's been a few beginners. the ones i can think of are....
bulerias compas
solea falseta from graf martinez
tangos falseta from rombsix's teacher
moraito tangos
ron's bulerias falseta

as long as you're a member here and you're not trying to pick some low hanging apples, you are good to go!

lol..no worries there I don't think - check my entry to the buleria falsetta in missionary position, it largely sucked monkey nuts...and my late entry to the Tangos beginner challenge (nobody scored me, but perhaps they are just sparing me :-)), I doubt I would have placed top 5 or so even there.

I'm just game for the challenge and figure if the intermediate has enough time to learn it and its anywhere within the realm of something I think I could get close to learning, I am willing to submit and at least be on the low end of the curve...if it's painful to listen to, I will certainly spare the judges ears, but if I can put together something that isn't awful, I would love to try.

(i'll check that thread. i had been looking under the 'challenges' header...is that where it ends up once everything is official?)

toque libre .. (as far as I know) means the palos that aren't tided by the tempo or rhythmic structure you just feel the music and phrase it the way you like. you express it the way you feel it=>(like Rondena) and that's makes it personal i.e every musician plays it the way he/she feels

A kind of "freestyle?"
So is this a guitar-only palo or are there dancers, too?
Anyway, sounds very interessting...

i think of free palos as guitar oriented ones, but actually many dancers like to use them...rondena, granaína, taranta, minera...but not only these can be interpreted freely or with a very loose compás, you hear seguiriyas, soleares, tientos, fandangos, malaguenas played freely too...
if you play these it helps enormously with the feeling i believe, because without the proper expression these simply sound like s-hit...so they're an important part of your development imo...

What criterias will be used in the beginners challenge to decide what is well played, if i have the freedom to play like fell like (leave out notes or add some, change tempo etc.) ?
doesn't it all belong to the personal taste of the judge then?

RE: ****Beginners Challenge Fall 201... (in reply to Schalli

you should read the judges' comments in the previous challenges as tastes do vary...i can only speak for myself, to me the most important things are tone and compás...i can overlook the leaving out of notes, changing sections but only if i can see a valid reason for them...things can be more difficult to some beginners and easier for others...also, your playing may be technically inferior to others' but if you still create a good aire you will score higher...
nothing's set into stone, and you mustn't think about the criterias, you shouldn't want to learn it for us, but you must do the best that you can...

It's a while ago someone wrote something about the next Beginners Challenge. Is there any chance it will start soon?
And what about the palo? I'd like to learn something about Malaguenas, so if there are more people interested, maybe we could play something in that palo?

That sounds good, Schalli...

We've never had a free-form palo as a challenge.

OK who wants to be the Challenge Administrator on this one?

Let's get going...

cheers,

Ron

Free-form sounds good, something different from a lot of the other challenges. Perhaps granaína?
