****Beginners Challenge Fall 2010****
Beginners Challenge Fall 2010
Start: September 12, 2010 End: November 1, 2010
Plan: Contestants will have until November 1 to learn and record any version of the falseta from below plus the alzapua ending from the Ravenna Version. Compas tracks will be provided. Contestants will then send an mp3 of their recording to Graham_B (grahamb.foro@gmail.com), who will upload the entries to the foro. Please include your foro user name when you send him your mp3. The entries will be evaluated by a panel of volunteer judges (ahem! that's you! ahem..). Scoring will be based on technique, compas, and aire.
Falseta: Moraito's Rompeserones Video + Tabs Thanks to Andy for the video and tabs!
Check page 2 to see what parts are required. -You can play some compas or tapado as an intro or just use the intro in section A. -Play Section A from any of the given tabs. -Section B is just basic compas. Play your own or use one from the given tabs. The length is up to you. In the Ravenna tabs, Section B goes until Section C. In the album and encuentro tabs, it goes until the next falseta. -End with Section C which is only in the Ravenna Version.
Rules: -all contestants must be a member for at least one month. -previous winners can not enter but are welcomed to upload an unofficial entry at the end of the challenge. -compas track or metronome must be used. -recording must be done in one take, by one person, with one guitar. -eq and reverb is allowed -any other editing, copying and pasting, punch ins, etc. are NOT allowed.
Prize: glory and fame. non-winners will still win experience and feedback. other prizes to be determined.

feel free to contribute your own tangos compas loops. as the competition has not officially started yet, nothing is written in stone. if you don't like something or would like to add something, please speak up.
ok, at the moment, we need: -judges -a volunteer to collect the mp3 recording and upload them -prizes, if we're still doing prizes -there are some mistakes in the tabs that will have to be edited.

Good work! So Moraito it is?
Playing along with the video is very hard.... I did some shuffeling and repositioning from both the Moraito original and the Revanna version so they are now in compas. Maybe some phrasings are not correct but you'll get the idea and it is in compas.

Hee Jimi, I would be interested in both, but espacially the CD version because I dont have the Encuentro DVD. Can you sent it to me at : remco.kas@gmail.com?

I find it very difficult to watch the video and the notation together and see whats happening if it is correct. With VLC player I slowed down the video and noticed a few things.
Here are some things which I think are not ok, can someone check? - The double stroke at the beginning he does not play - The 1-2-1 ligado he plays 0-2-0 - the 4-1-0 he plays also ligado instead of the 0 with the thumb.
Or should we take the original moraitio version, with the original transcript? And otherwhise I would like to take Stu's offer to re-transcribe it. (I am too lazy because I have to reinstall Sibelieus again )

yup, only this falseta, the way it's played in the video in the link. you can vary the compas sections.
intermediate challenge is in the process of being worked out and will start in two weeks. we probably wont get any real concrete information until the second week.

maybe it would be better if we picked the original or the encuentro version and it's up to the challengers to simplify parts they find too difficult to play - i'll be curious how each get through the fast ligado part finishing the intro...

ok, can you guys make the tabs available for all the contestants? i still think we should keep the closing alzapua section from ravenna's version. i'll try to clean up ravenna's tabs tonight. challenge starts tomorrow.
