We could meet uo someday in bar El Duende!
On sundays the have "open podium" and you could join in anytime you want.
There are some more people from the Neth's, would be nice nice to meet up in A'dam.

I was thinking, if you come accross someone who is wistling or singing this tune, I think you can safely ask him how he is doing practicing it...the damn thing is stuck in my mind like a broken record.

I gotta say. So far this is going surprisingly well for me. I just have some polishing to do. The only thing giving me real trouble is the timing of the alzapua at the end and that simple pulloff in the middle. My finger on occasion strikes the adjacent g string (ha! g-string...sorry couldn't resist).

Nice flaseta you chose. A round thing with compas, falseta + llamada. Very useful! So many contestants! Going to be interesting.

I'm doing good practicing for this piece, only the alzapua is killing me. But I have faith!
I watched the alzapua videos Leo posted and the 1st one says 'use your wrist' 'use your wrist' and at the end of the 2nd video he does it and he's using his mainly his thumb... same thing in the 3rd video. maybe it's me...

it just looks that way. especially when you go faster. watch the wrist, it's always moving. there is a bit of thumb movement but the power comes from the wrist, imo.

i used to do it with thumb only and it wore me out fast....

Even if you do not understand the language, these tediously performed exercises will help you appreciate the "movement" required in Alzapua. On the first Video, the Alzapua Chapter starts at 4:10.

Thanks Michelob I had never seen Herrero's technique videos. These exercises will help me get precision on where my thumb falls.

I'm out for sure. Sorry... I have been working out of town since the start, I have not even looked at it yet and won't get much chance. The good news though is I have a new job that is 7 days on alternating 7 off so once I get established I should have more time to play.

Thanks Graham! This has been the object of my learning for the last couple weeks. It's brand new and has lots of cool things to keep me safe. I guess it kind of looks like a guitar from the side if you imagine the tailboom as the neck.

Hey Gummy,

You can do what Ricardo used to...play one of those silent guitars when nothing much was happening (like waiting at lights or in a jam)....that was until he got pulled over by the Traffic Police.

Do they have Traffic Police in the Sky?

(Police Helicopters telling you to "Pull over Buddy!" )

cheers,

Ron

RE: Beginners Challenge Fall 2010 (in reply to Ron.M

Hi Ron,
When I am at work waiting for a call I could have a guitar. They don't care what I do during that time. I'll probably bring one eventually and "play" quietly.

Believe it or not, there is an idiotic regulation that says all emergency vehicles in the state must have sirens. This helicopter has a working siren mounted to the back of the left side skid. There is no way anyone can respond to it in any meaningful way.

I fly EMS like an ambulance driver in the sky. I have friends who flew for police departments. They occasionally did traffic enforcement but sent info to ground units for the actual ticketing etc.

Makes no difference, Gummy...

Health & Safety always come first...as any bureaucrat will tell you..
