Awesome, dude, OMG you're the best, can I download your album etc.
Seriously, the crappiest books sell the most, the stupidest films make millions and win Oscars, the dumbest Rock bands have the biggest followings . . . what else is new. And add in that flamenco is already a complex and 'exotic' art form for the vast majority of human beings, at least the ones on this planet. Anyway YouTube posters seem to be a pathetic bunch -- some of the comments about classical music clips are beyond belief. You don't do flamenco for the YouTube hits or platoons of groupies; the reward comes almost completely from inside ourselves -- OK, girls loving us is good too.

People like what they can relate to
Spaniards like traditional flamenco, because its part of their culture, guitarists and dancers like it, because they can relate to the artistry and have a frame of reference they tap into, but most people don't relate to it
The rumba stuff follows structures they're familiar with and understand and there's nothing wrong with it and it doesn't make people ignorant, flamenco just isnt their thing

That's a generalisation. My experience about it : that's not true. Most of the spaniard I know (living outside spain) if they enjoy flamenco (believe me it's far from being automatic), they can't stand 'tradicional' stuff. At least the few ones I know told me that in spain flamenco and fusion aka flamenquito (pop, light...) is far more appreciated than the Jondo. In fact they told me that foreigners enjoy much more tradicional stuff than the lambda spaniard (outside of the aficionado circle I guess).

I don't know what happen with YT, but I cannot see comments anymore. I used to receive some couple of comments from my uploads on a regular basis but now, they did not reach my mail anymore. I guess this have something to do with G+ suck1ng policy... I was close to delete my account on this plateform but then I see I reach something near 700 000 views, so I thought 'let's see if I could reach 1 million' ...and decided to not delete!

oup oup. Actually the huge majority of Spaniards does not like flamenco and its never been part of their culture. Even in Andalucia, the huge majority are not really interested in flamenco and especially not in Cande Jondo, which most people strongly dislike.

This is true | remember when i lived in Cordoba all the 'young ' people like groups like Queen and Gary Moore and a few of the biggest Spanish rock bands that were basically copies of these and sung in English anyway .. although flamenco was somehow revered by them , it was just not used .
Until it was time for the local fiesta or verbaena and then a lot of Traje Gitanas would be around and there would mainly be a lot of Sevillanas to dance ..albeit the Sevillanas that have a lot of synthesizers and trumpet stuff on it ...
after a while the young would end up in a rock caseta and the older in a more trad place ....
Flamenco is something you grandfather does ....not me .....

Kids are actually very flexible. They want whatever they see on TV, and anything which they haven't seen on TV is 'weird'.
What we need is to get Disney on the case, perhaps in conjunction with Macdonalds.
'An eight year old girl who is a flamenco dancer works part time at a Macdonalds to earn money to support her brain damaged parents and buy new shoes. Every week she seems close to buying new shoes but some mistake by her hapless younger brother soaks up the excess funds. Still in a heartfelt epilogue the whole family get to relax and enjoy delicious burgers together in front of the TV. Our kindly heroine only mildly scolds her father for drooling in his fillet o fish.'
The soundtrack however saves the day, it's Almoraima on electric guitar in four four with a vocal.
YAY !
Here is the chorus.
'Culture cannot die please listen to our sponsors and they will tell you why.'

Not so sure about that, my kids are 8 and 10, and listen to mostly Johnny Cash which I happen to have some of, but don't personally listen to that much. There's none of his stuff on TV ... They listen to a lot of other music as well, but pretty much refuse to listen to Flamenco of any sort ...

I'm not surprised that the majority of Spaniards don't like flamenco, but I still think flamenco is more popular in Spain than in any other individual country. On the Canal Sur flaemnco radio site they used to have a pie chart that showed who was listening worldwide and over 50% was in Spain with France coming in second with like 10% and unfortunately I don't remember seeing any Latin American countries at all

Maybe this is the only way to get todays kids listen to flamenco

What more about it do you want to know? Singing, dancing, guitar? Or just a general knowledge more? If you're just looking for a general over all primer that's probably okay, if you're interested in something in particular there's better places....
