My new baby: FN Reyes Grand Concert

Just got my new Fransico Navarro Reyes Special Grand Concert Flamenco Negra.
German spruce top. Cocobolo back and sides. Ordered from Ron Hudson or Memorial Music. Why did but this guitar? I saw Blackshear's review on this forum!

LOUD! Projects sound very well. Deep, darker sound. The bass! Did I say the bass! Boomy bass. Clear, sweet trebles. No dead spot on the ebony neck. French polish. Did I say the bass? Cocobolo is outstanding! The cocobolo has some purple, some red, some brown hues (sp?) in it. The grains are long and defined. The German spruce top is beautiful and resonates. When I talk around Santa Miguel (yes I have name him), the top resonates and resonates loudly. Very excited about this lovely instrument.

I am giddy like a little school boy!

I will post pics once I am done drooling over this guitar in the next few days.

Big thanks to Ron Hudson on helping me through this process.

Awesome, I bet the trebles and bass will even out a bit as you play it.

I'm happy for you man. Being someone who just recently got a good flamenco guitar, I know the joy of playing a great instrument. Olé!

Video / audio / pics?

Some thoughts after a week of playing this FN Flamenco:

1) The trebles are slowly coming out. Not very bright trebles, much more rounded. I prefer trebles like this.

2) Louder and louder the more I play him.

3) Resonates like a crack head looking for more crack.

4) Very light!

5) Strings are starting to dull out. The basses are starting to get a woodsy sound. The trebles are somewhat dull.

6) Responds well to my heavy hands. The more I drive him, the more he responds. He is a growler. Bites hard when asked to, softens when asked to.

So far so good.

7) New name: Santi Jordi, the patron saint of Barcelona.

.. and what strings may those be?

I had a Navarro (student model) and was very pleased with its clear and dry sound. On Tom's advice (of LaFalseta, who sold me the fine instrument) and of Ricardo, also a member here, I used Luthier Popular Supreme.

For an even clearer treble, the suggested blend was to mix "LaBella black trebles" (and they were indeed crystal clear, but to me not as lyrical as the Luthier’s plain nylon).

Above all, congratulations on the lovely guitar
-and whatever you may end up doing with it, may I also suggest that you do keep the spouse

Gj: Savarez(sp?) high tension.
I will try your suggestion as to mixing the strings up.

Santi Jordi does produce a clear and dry sound, just as you said. I just want the trebles to be a bit more bell like in quality.

Mrs. Flamencositar still likes me after 15+ years. So I am keeping my wallet open and finger crossed....

Gj, was this the guitar with the custom rosette?
