Contributions in memory of Ron

Any ideas, already mentioned or otherwise would be very welcome.

So here's a couple to kick off - an audio produced by us of music and words about Ron from all over the world. AC would like a tribute and maybe we can get it played at his funeral - so audio would be easier than video in that case.

We all have audio equipment of some kind but we will need a volunteer to mix it, even out the levels and EQ etc. We won't have long.

I'll check with AC on flowers etc. so we might be able to chip in for a wreath or other memorial from us all.

Over to you.

RE: Contributions in memory of Ron (in reply to Escribano

When I went home yesterday I ended up coming up with a “lazy” tangos falseta in homage to Ron. I’ll try to make a recording of it soon or will at least post a video here if I’m not able to put something together before the memorial.

And this is too strange for me to make up, so believe it or not, but a few seconds after opening this thread I heard the sound of a bagpipe outside my office, which is about five thousand miles from Scotland. A young man in full Scottish dress, kilt, tam, the whole nine, was passing by, perambulating and busking at the same time, and stopping for passers by to take cell phone pics with him. I just ran down stairs and dropped a buck in, in Ron’s name.

I can tell you that this sort of thing is not an everyday occurrence around here, and I’d like to think that this is one of those moments of life’s weirdness that Ron would have gotten a kick out of.

The guy seems to have set up camp around the corner and I can still faintly hear those bagpipes…

Can't contribute anything worthwile musically, sorry. But count me in for contribuiting to flowers, wreath, whatever.

Can we get a custom wreath made up in the shape of a guitar?

Glad to see you added Ron's name to the site dedication line at the top, Simon, along with the flag to the left.

I think that would be a great idea, I did not know Ron that much but it is clear that the foro was a big part of his life, so it would be great to have something from ForoFlamenco there. If we go this way I am in.

RE: Contributions in memory of Ron (in reply to Escribano

Here are links to the threads containing Ron's series of "lazy" videos:

Lazy Solea Falseta

Lazy Fandangos Falseta

Lazy Tientos/Tangos Falseta

Might be a couple other uploads back there somewhere.....

I always liked that, with that Fred Perry shirt, he looked like a skinhead or a football hooligan from the neck down in the Fandangos video, so, not knowing his face, I'd imagine some grizzled hard man's mug up there!

...Later....

Found another one:

Bulerias Falseta in the Missionary Position

Come to think of it, picking up any one of these falsetas, without tabs, just straight from watching Ron's videos, would serve as a nice informal "challenge" for a lot of folks. No planning and hand wringing and voting, just people working one or more of these out and uploading their attempts in a dedicated thread as a tribute to Ron.

...Yet more:

Simple Bulerias Practice Ideas

...The hits just keep on coming:

Tangos Falseta

Tomatito Falseta

Some Old Bulerias

Fandangos Intro Por Cante

That last group of links above are to threads where Ron posted a link to some bitternet thing. I've gotten all of those links to open, though a couple of them gave me an error message the first time I tried to open them, so they do work. If one doesn't work, try it again.

The following two links are to bitternet uploads that don't seem to open, so maybe a tech savvy member can troubleshoot those and see if they can get them going? Might also be a good idea, if it's possible, for someone to download all those files and save them to the Foro's archive, in case those bitternet files get deleted somehow.

El Tempul Alzapua

El Tempul Rasgeado "Cheat"

Here's another one, grabbed from ricecrackerphoto's post in the other thread. Siguiriyas:

Count me in on this, I'm very new to the forum but Ron got me from lurking to posting and I was really looking forward to meeting him in Spain.................

There was a picture of him taken in the 1970's. It would be nice to find it and post it here. Also, he came up with a definition of flamenco that would be worth posting, too.

I don't feel qualified to contribute musically but would welcome other opportunities.

It would be nice if we could do something lasting in Ron's memory.

I'd like to remember Ron as a guy who had enormous class at presenting a subject with no class! His irreverent sense of humor was wonderful.

RE: Contributions in memory of Ron (in reply to Escribano

I read everyones ideas and they all sound brilliant! I especially liked Arthur's idea about the guitar shaped wreath, its given me a few ideas about flowers, which I'm going to have a look at later today.

Thank you everyone who said they would chip in for the wreath, very thoughtful and awesome of you! Also Florian's idea about selling copies of the CD and using the proceeds towards the funeral is also a great idea.

P.S Florian I read your quote thing under your post, that put a smile on my face. Also Adam putting in a buck for the Bagpipe player for my Dad was a very kind gesture. This forum is one of the few things keeping me smiling, I can see why my Dad loved it here so much.

It wont let me upload this picture for some reason, but here is another photo of my Dad playing guitar: https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/425195_3147026924158_563935025_n.jpg

SKYPE... Contributions in memory of Ron (in reply to Escribano

One idea occurred to me, while I was entertaining the impossible plan to be present at Ron’s Funeral.

After all, there may be a way for all of us from the Foro (those who want to participate) to be there via…. Skype. Many have the simple program already (and those who do not should have this little prodigious technology). If AC Mitchell could have a computer at the wake or funeral home, we could each make a 1 or 2 minute-long appearance, speaking or playing a few notes to say goodbye to our dear friend.

Although managing the succession of appearances is –I realize- quite difficult and will require some of us abroad to wake up early if not in the middle of the night, I suppose it could be done.

I am sure Grisha and Ricardo, along with a number of proficient musicians could perform a few falsetas, while those who are not comfortable playing live, could recite a short poem, lyrics or letras, or come up with some short tribute.

What do y’all think of this?

My chest has been tight since Simon messaged me about Ron. And although there is no word or thoughtful homage which can settle the debt of sadness we all pay, we may console ourselves in the bond of friendship that his passing away has left us… his last prize, for the most important contest… the Unity of the Foro he so dearly regarded.

thank you, great photo ! uploaded it for you

Thank you AC I am glad it made you smile, your dad really was very loved by everyone here, among many qualities had such an amazing sense of humor ...one of my favorite things to do was to make him lough and see his reaction ... hes the type of guy that makes you wanna make him lough cause his reaction even when written down on a forum showed his character and stood out...when reading his reactions I could clearly picture him laughing too...

perfect example, he sent me a message over some silly jokes i made one day when i was bored
quote:

Hey Flo,
That's the funniest thing I've ever seen on this Forum.

I'm totally pssing myself!

Take care man,

Ron

Also he always had a way of calming any situation down with a joke (like when 2 members were in a heated discussion) kind of humbled you and made you feel silly for arguing about stupid things.

I miss him so much already

nice to see you :-), its really great to have you here in this time..

It sounds good Gj in concept its perfect...but the logistics of this sound so complicated...i dont even know if it can be done, link 20 members via skype ? like in conference ? how will they know whos turn it is, will someone at the funeral wait by and have a list and connect and disconnect 20 different people (perhaps even more, i dont even know how many will wanna join) ? a computer screen or laptop screen will not be big enough for them to see us at a funeral, she will need a projector and computer.. it sounds like so much fine planning and organizing for AC that the last thing we would wanna do make more work for her..

the simplest solution (under the circumstances) i think is joining everyone's submitted videos,...we can set a deadline, join the submitted parts together quickly, make someone in charge of joining it and send it off or upload it somewhere, depending on the time limit and Ac's preference...she is organizing funeral now and have a date for us as soon as she knows.....but start planing now...once that happens we wont have that long

sorry i dont mean to be dismissive and pushy just know that we need to move fast whatever we decide your organizational skills would really help us out so much in this Gj sure appreciate you being here.....there really is a time limit and its absolutely imperative that we all come together quickly, get organized and do this for our friend who absolutely loved this place and believed in it and gave so much to all of us.

If we do the video first thing we need is a volunteer with fast internet to collect all the videos submitted and join them together not necessary to do any fancy editing... and either upload it somewhere or send it off in the mail....I know we are all bit affected by this so this could be your way to do something special and nice for him, someone that can..please volunteer...

I would love do it myself but i am on some weak internet plan where i have a 2 Gb limit per month...and its slow, i would never get anywhere with many videos which can be quite large.....but i can help in any other organizational way...like set out the plan...but everyone needs to take responsibility with this one and we need to decide quickly and move on it..

Mean time everyone should start thinking and planning what you might like to do, some words or a bit of playing, whatever happens it needs to start rolling to give us enough time to edit and send it so that its there for the funeral...please dont make it too long as there will be a few of us...1 or 2 minutes

With the cd I was thinking to make in his memory to sell on Cdbaby and send the money to help for Ron's funeral will take a little longer ...if its going for sale..it has to be done right ...its a project that will take time as people will need to compose..covers (some nice pics or Ron), need to set up account with cd baby...first we need to organize this funeral video

Good seeing you too, as always dear Florian. As I was saying, Ron has managed to reunite us.

I agree that Skype may require too much management and may ultimately malfunction… a Video, on the other hand, would lose the “live” effect, but it certainly can gather even more people than skype, and may be presented more effectively to any audience.

Naturally, I would like to participate, indeed; I have not played my flamenco guitar in a while (now solely steel strings) but I will figure out something that I feel connects me to Ron and could serve as my way to bid him good bye.

Just thought of this... for the video, its a funeral, I wanna know what you guys think ... I think it might be nice to dress up a little as if we were there.. not t shirt and jeans

Also a nice touch, might be everyone put your name and country 3 seconds into the video so that people at the funeral see the different countries Ron had friends in...or whomever volunteers to stick videos together could do it for everyone so the font matches, but we trying to make his work as minimal as possible

That was a reply from one of my old videos. If it put a smile on Ron's face, then I think it's worth it to post here. I still can't believe it.

I was thinking to add exactly the same suggestions for the same reasons. I think it is a absoluetly a good idea, it will represnt the Foro and its unanymous love for Ron quite well.

i was thinking of a movie that is made by some playing of every one of us with some small words to Ron from all around the world mixed with the videos he is playing in and some piece of the music he published in MP3 as a background and also written good bye words in many languages. it would be a good idea. Today i was asking a Creative from our Apple Store about realizing this. it will need time beside the MATERIALS naturally.. Tell me guys what do you think?

sorry i am not sure exactly how u mean ...so we just mime the playing ? as his mp3 will be the background for all of it or do you mean just a small separate section ? sounds good but it also sounds like quite a job for the editor and he would have to know what hes doing, unless you do and volunteer to do the editing its a big ask in such a short time..i am down for whatever nicest and best option, the better the video the better

goodbye in all this different languages sounds too much like a cheesy airline if i may speak honestly ...i am not crazy about that one...Ron would crack up laughing in his sleep

Flo, imagine a something like a small video documentary ' A video intro with Ron playing a piece with subtitles telling the motives of the video, you will be saying a small few words about Ron, his music in mp3 will be accompanying your conversation when the camera in capturing your face and the another video of him playing accompanying your voice , then a small playing by you, followed by another similar video of another friend of Ron. it is not that difficult with a program like Final cut and a Creative from Apple ( A colleague) Of course i can ask the favor of my colleague but i need materials if you all like the idea in general.. recording mp3 with the things you wanna say and videos.. I agree this will take some time but this idea came to my mind and i wanted to ask you all how do you see it?
