Zapateado en Re (Sabicas)

I dunno...

This composition came into my head this morning.

Paco Peña does a great performance of it.

Very technical and precise and no room for hesitant "feeling and interpetation" lol.

VERY Flamenco anyway.

Was thinking of making it an Intermediate/Advanced Challenge if anyone feels up to it.

What do youz think?

Is it too hard?

(Bet most of you couldn't do it. lol)

cheers,

Ron

This is how I think of stuff, at least in terms of compas and technique (and not including depth of knowledge of flamenco history, concepts, cante accompaniment, dance accompaniment, composition, etc.).

Beginner - level 1
Beginner - level 2
Beginner - level 3

Intermediate - level 1 <--------- rombsix
Intermediate - level 2
Intermediate - level 3

Advanced - level 1
Advanced - level 2
Advanced - level 3 <--------- Paco de Lucia et al.

The higher the number of the level, the more advanced the player (like the degrees of a black belt in Karate). Oh, and the scale is logarithmic.

I would say this zapateado, if you want it to sound like Paco Pena's or Sabicas' playing, is probably Intermediate - level 3 or Advanced - level 1 material. But maybe I'm just full-o-crap.

Tremolo at the first bit ....thats me out ...........

I like your chart Rombsix ...Isn't it upside down ? and Paco should be Advanced - level A ?? unless you feel there is a level higher than him ....

Cant find my level there ....I put it at Beginner U (Unclassified ) .....one day I will get on your scale /.........Which we should adapt as a guide and call it The ROMBSCALE of flamenco levels ......

No, the way I see it is that the further you go into the alphabet, the more advanced you are...

I edited my original post about the scale. Check it out, and you will know why you actually DO fit in those 9 categories. I am sure you underestimate yourself, and I am not going to OVER-estimate your level just to sugarcoat things. So of what I have seen of you, I would say you are Beginner - level 3.

You don't have to do it like Paco Pena. Sabias uses AIAI etc.. for the intro. You sacrifice some speed for it though. Here is Sabicas playing it.

Nice idea, Ron,

I'd be up for tackling this one.

How long would we have to practice?

3 months.

Entries on 1st August.

Can you do it?

That's the Challenge to yourself. Only YOU will know if you are up for it or not.

cheers,

Ron

Have you been attending some leadership seminars, or reading some self-motivation books, Ron?

I'm out of the challenge by the way because I will be in transition from country to country at the time you mentioned, so it's going to be very difficult to juggle this along with the other stuff I'll be handling...

I bought the tabs from Alain Faucher 6 years ago (book Rey del Flamenco) and still can't play it past the tremolo, but then I am off the Ramzi scale.

These pieces are too classical for my taste. And also too hard for my skills.

Ok. So I guess that, technically, I win. Without even having to learn, practice or play it. Yay. Do I get a medal?
