Ron.M -> Zapateado en Re (Sabicas) (Apr. 29 2012 21:32:26)

I dunno...

This composition came into my head this morning.

Paco Peña does a great performance of it.

Very technical and precise and no room for hesitant "feeling and interpetation" lol.

VERY Flamenco anyway.

Was thinking of making it an Intermediate/Advanced Challenge if anyone feels up to it.

What do youz think?

Is it too hard?

(Bet most of you couldn't do it. lol)

cheers,

Ron

That's not easy mate... It'll need a good deal of work!

Ron.M -> RE: Zapateado en Re (Sabicas) (Apr. 29 2012 21:49:45)

Hey, I thought that would just be easyf for all the guys who started on Luzia and Cositas Buenas stuff??

This is just OldSchool for heaven's sake!

cheers,

Ron

This is how I think of stuff, at least in terms of compas and technique (and not including depth of knowledge of flamenco history, concepts, cante accompaniment, dance accompaniment, composition, etc.).

Beginner - level 1
Beginner - level 2
Beginner - level 3

Intermediate - level 1 <--------- rombsix
Intermediate - level 2
Intermediate - level 3

Advanced - level 1
Advanced - level 2
Advanced - level 3 <--------- Paco de Lucia et al.

The higher the number of the level, the more advanced the player (like the degrees of a black belt in Karate). Oh, and the scale is logarithmic. [8D]

I would say this zapateado, if you want it to sound like Paco Pena's or Sabicas' playing, is probably Intermediate - level 3 or Advanced - level 1 material. But maybe I'm just full-o-crap. [:D]

El Kiko -> RE: Zapateado en Re (Sabicas) (Apr. 29 2012 22:26:47)

Tremolo at the first bit ....thats me out ...........[:(][:(]

I like your chart Rombsix ...Isn't it upside down ? and Paco should be Advanced - level A ?? unless you feel there is a level higher than him ....[:D]

Cant find my level there ....I put it at Beginner U (Unclassified ) .....one day I will get on your scale /.........Which we should adapt as a guide and call it The ROMBSCALE of flamenco levels ......

mottallica -> RE: Zapateado en Re (Sabicas) (Apr. 29 2012 22:31:46)

i would really like to even give a try , but trying to learn it by ear just seems too much effort for me.....
if there were tabs - i would love to take this on as a new way to improve

No, the way I see it is that the further you go into the alphabet, the more advanced you are... [8D]

I edited my original post about the scale. Check it out, and you will know why you actually DO fit in those 9 categories. I am sure you underestimate yourself, and I am not going to OVER-estimate your level just to sugarcoat things. So of what I have seen of you, I would say you are Beginner - level 3. [:)]

You don't have to do it like Paco Pena. Sabias uses AIAI etc.. for the intro. You sacrifice some speed for it though. Here is Sabicas playing it.

you're doing the same Romb [;)]
I don't think this would be hard for you

I think we need to play some more oldschool stuff here on the foro
cool idea imo , i'll give it a shot

Ramirez -> RE: Zapateado en Re (Sabicas) (Apr. 30 2012 8:20:51)

Nice idea, Ron,

I'd be up for tackling this one.

How long would we have to practice?

3 months.

Entries on 1st August.

Can you do it?

That's the Challenge to yourself. Only YOU will know if you are up for it or not.

cheers,

Ron

Ramirez -> RE: Zapateado en Re (Sabicas) (Apr. 30 2012 10:39:18)

Sound like something to work towards!

Count me in!

[:D]

Have you been attending some leadership seminars, or reading some self-motivation books, Ron?

I'm out of the challenge by the way because I will be in transition from country to country at the time you mentioned, so it's going to be very difficult to juggle this along with the other stuff I'll be handling...

Arash -> RE: Zapateado en Re (Sabicas) (Apr. 30 2012 11:32:15)

This is oldschool...but damn hard to play man...

eg.czerny -> RE: Zapateado en Re (Sabicas) (Apr. 30 2012 16:20:01)

I bought the tabs from Alain Faucher 6 years ago (book Rey del Flamenco) and still can't play it past the tremolo, but then I am off the Ramzi scale.

mezzo -> RE: Zapateado en Re (Sabicas) (Apr. 30 2012 16:26:14)

These pieces are too classical for my taste. And also too hard for my skills.

Ramirez -> RE: Zapateado en Re (Sabicas) (Apr. 30 2012 20:03:49)

Ok. So I guess that, technically, I win. Without even having to learn, practice or play it. Yay. Do I get a medal?
