Awesome, so happy to see this!! The ornamentation is pretty over the top but I kinda dig it. What I'm really excited about is the fact that Jeronimo has a new CD and DVD coming, and that he appears to be happy and healthy. I remember reading a rumor on here that he wasn't doing so good these days. Man, I love his toque!!

I love mother of pearl, as well as imitations of it. And i hate those pixel rosettes, looking at them i never seem to be able to tell whether its a rose or a horse standing on two feet...

ps: just watched the video... man they should upload the WHOLE video, the snippets are too short. It sounds really good.

I'm typically not a big fan of MOP, but I think this looks cool and well done. Are the MOP rosette inlays supposed to be roses from a side profile view? The bindings remind me of the classic herringbone style you see on Martin acoustics. I had never heard of this builder before, and I wonder how he and Jeronimo ended up working together. Very interesting that he would choose a Greek luthier with so many choices available in Spain. I actually think that's really great because too many people get hung up on the "made in Spain" thing. A good guitar is a good guitar!! One love

The rosette is a copy of a very famous and heavily ornamented guitar by Antonio de Torres. I believe the MOP lozenges are shields or escudos.
The other ornamentation on the bridge is a more modern take on Torres.
This guy is some player...

There is one for 2300 at La Sonanta.
I would say you pay 2000 extra for the name "Jeronimo maya" for this model

Around the 0:50sec mark, Jeronimo sounds like he's comparing these guitars to his Condes - what does he say exactly?

Aaron Green's "La Bella Guitar" also features a beautiful take on that Torres rosette. He writes a little about it in the link for the close-up pic of the rosette.

Agree, but maybe it not just 'looks like' to be smaller.???

I've seen a guitar that also had smaller body but great volume...

Did Jero have a cold here?

They had this posted below the video:

"This is a special exclusive flamenco guitar developed by Jeronimo Maya, Vassilis Lazarides and La Sonanta. Jeronimo Maya plays exactly this guitar model on his upcoming DVD and CD.

To have a sensational, professional, well balanced, lightweight, comfortable playability and a very Andalusian, old style chitarra and Cante Jondo sound, Jeronimo Maya, Vassilis and La Sonanta worked together to design this new flamenco guitar. The essential input from Jeronimo Maya as a maestro flamenco guitarist, the perfect workmanship and historical instrument construction knowledge of Vassilis Lazarides led to a very authentic flamenco sounding instruments.

The great particular, old sounding and responsive flamenco tone of this new Jeronimo Maya flamenco guitar is due to a special bracing and some historical chitarra design aspects. She has a lot of percussive power, the basses are very punchy and dark, she has an extremely quick response and a very well balanced tone with trebles that have a dry, clear singing and sweet touch.

The slender neck makes her very comfortable to play. The French polish finish is of an excellent quality and looks beautiful. The woods used for this guitar are of exceptional quality. Back and sides are made of beautiful light cypress and the soundboard is made of premium old aged German spruce with many essential cross silk grain patters. The rosette design is based upon one of the early authentic Torres rosettes. The tasteful, beautiful mother of pearl inlays in the rosette and the binding make this instrument an even more special and beautiful instrument.

Vassilis only makes a very limited amount of these Jeronimo Maya flamenco guitars per year in his workshop. For those flamenco guitarists, who are looking for a unique authenthic flamenco sound and professional playability."

been thinking about this... There's nothing wrong with those Paco and Tomatito guitars out there, but another thing when an endorser picks that guitar to eventually play and record with...respect!!!

well, we'll see...

RE: La Sonanta: Jeronimo-maya (in reply to kudo

it's funny because one day before this topic I stumbled up on youtube videos of jeronimo performing on canal sur when he was a kid.

anyway, what's strange is that this guitar is being marketed as a coorporation between jeronimo and the luthier. like it's based on ideas that jeronimo had to improve or characterize this model. but in the interview that ramzy posted it doesn't seem like that. i get the impression that it might be even the first time these two met. i could be wrong, don't know.
all i know is that marketing is a strange instrument

So I asked La Sonanta for some more info and the release date for the DVD is set for August. They are also starting to record his new CD next week (did not know they were involved in that as well) which is to be released at the same time as the DVD.

I really like it , a bit of bling on the rosette never hurt anyone , first I was looking at the guitar , but after a short while you just cant help transfer yor attention to the player . Absolutley fantástico, increíble, sobrenatural, fantasmagórico, increíble, excepcional, estupendo, y extrachulo......I mean what a great sound he can get on that really great guitar , and he is right what he says about the sound that all flamenco players like, its a very crisp sound , I bet it wouldn't sound like that if I played it ..

I'm curious if Jeronimo is even playing the Lazarides signature guitar anymore. I know he sold one to the Solera Flamenca shop (flamencoguitarsforsale) and it seems like he prefers Conde's.
