Luciano - the rising Lebanese flamen...

Hello mates,

Please check out this video of my friend Luciano playing some guitar.

He is a rising Lebanese flamenco guitarist, and has a long way ahead of him still to hone his skills even further because he is only 17 years old. He has been playing for only four years.

His brother José is doing the chords. They had been awing me with their superb playing be it at technique or compas and aire. I really hope they make it big in the flamenco scene. We would all like to know your constructive comments.

Cheers!

He learned on his own using YouTube and tabs (mostly of Paco de Lucia) which he found bootlegged online. He has a good ear which helps tremendously. I also think he's been doing some classical guitar work for the year or two as well with a classical guitar teacher. He's had no formal education in flamenco guitar in Lebanon though (which is not a surprise considering I can't think of any flamenco guitar teachers in Lebanon that can play this sort of PdL material etc.).

I met him on MSN about 2 years ago (can't remember how that happened exactly) when he was just someone with a lot of enthusiasm but still very rough technique and not a whole deal of compas. He improved (you get only a glimpse in this video) very quickly up to this day.

Hey Ramzi,

I wanted to see you play accompaniment rhythm guitar for him. You are up for the task. Is he up for making a duo with you?

I can play PdL stuff, but not as well as him, yet... They are both very Lebanese, but they have Italian roots, and hence their names.

I did play stuff with him, but I wanted to have the spotlight and the two brothers, and not much on me...

Oh ok, I think that bulerias would be a nice one for you to work out the accompaniment for. Just work out the chord changes and play along keeping the groove. Maybe you guys could form a trio? I find when there is no singer about, accompanying guitar is the next best thing

That's a possibility...

When he plays A then Bb chord, that sound is just "uber".

Indeed I should before he gets rich and famous.

Wow... I really love his vibe.... he's an awesome talent, certainly has a future in Flamenco, I'd think.
Thanks for sharing, Ramzi-

If he keeps progressing at the pace he's been doing so at lately, he'll surely become big in the coming 5 years or so. Let's hope he gets the support to grow as a professional musician / artist though, as we all know how hard it is to make a living solely off of music, not to mention, FLAMENCO!
