RE: Rest in peace, Moraito Chico... (in reply to Elie

Sorry
Have to post before I log off but I have been listening to his Morao morao Lp and just to say wasn,t he the best player of Seguiriyas ever !
Some of my records in my collection I don,t play for years an years but Morao morao I played just five days ago .
What I,m trying to say in a bad way is our kind words of tribute might not register with his family now but I hope one day they realise that out here the wider world there were people who did not kmow him but loved his music .

Peace and rest where ever his spirit is

Love and music

I feel privileged to have met him in sanlucar in 2007 after his concert accomp. jose merce. Manolo sanlucar and arcangel also performed. Errol (flamenco guru) caught this footage of the fin de fiesta and you can see Moraito and Manolo play together for Jose, arcangel and someone else singing, and Moraito dances as well! RIP Maestro!

This makes me really upset.

Does anyone know his birth date for sure? I’m writing an obit: Wikipedia.es says 1955, El País says 1956.

Moraito was definitely "The Man" IMO...

His great humility and sense of fun as well as being one of the greatest Jerez guitarists of all time.

His compositions were always full of great Jerez "down home" tone combined with sensitivity, insight and a great compassion.

He was simply a good human being.

He will be sorely missed.

cheers,

Ron

Woke up today and saw this news as a status update on facebook. Such a terrible loss for flamenco music. He was truly among my favorite guitarists. I have been playing his Morao y oro cd in my car for the past 6 months. Rest in peace Moraito.

How tragic. I'm probably the least knowledgeable members of this forum when it comes to performers, as I'm just starting in the world of Flamenco- yet I knew of him, and recognized him as a stellar performer. A cancer survivor myself, I am saddened to hear of this- and to realize who it was.

Which sad news. He was my preferred guitarist since I am interested in the flamenco guitar. A very great loss. Adios maestro.

I'm fighting back tears but it's difficult to explain to people here as most people have never heard of him in Australia.

I've been privileged to see him play many times, expressing compas with every cell of his body. He is the best answer I can think of to the question "what is flamenco?". Rest in peace.

RE: Rest in peace, Moraito Chico... (in reply to XXX

Moraito was one of the few guitarists that could compose flamenco that appealed to both modern and traditional guitarists. His style kind of bridged the gap in a way.

It's great that so much of his art has been captured.

He came across like such a humble person, yet so full of character. And for me as a guitarist I feel I have learnt so much from listening and watching him play. I am very grateful for that and the enjoyment i have had trying to play his music.

I was in corte ingles in Madrid browsing through the flamenco Cds when i looked to my left and saw Moraito standing beside me. I thought wow! Moraito!!! I turned and spoke to him nervously, not sure how he would react. I needn't have worried, such a friendly person who took the time to come to the counter with me and wait while i asked the cashier for some paper and a pen.
