RE: The Cante accompaniment challeng... (in reply to JasonMcGuire)
I've been working on this quite a lot, even composed a falseta... but won't be able to record it. I've been ridiculously busy last few days and away from guitar for 5 days last week... I think that's the reason why I'm now sick in bed...
I will record it when I'm better and upload it because I'd really like to hear what you think.
Good luck everybody !!

I think the contestants shouldn't be telling us too much just now about their entries, as it might give the judges a clue as to who's recorded what, especially if a contestant has recorded something other than por medio.

I have 8 entries all code named and ready to upload. I promised you guys until midnight UK, so just under 2 hours to go. I'm really impressed with you all. Brilliant job.

Is this still an accurate list of who's judging? I think we need more because some of these people probably won't show. Are we still doing the public thing? How is that going to work?

yeah, 3 so far is not too much...i hope the others find time to judge on the weekend... i don't think we're doing the public thing, nobody's said a word about it yet... it's probably because we haven't decided on the hows, perhaps at the composition challenge this could be more important...
i've taken notes and judged and now after having listened to all entries several times i think i know who's who and i have a very strong favourite for winner (not me )

I have strong favorite as well and its not me either
Talking about doing things better so that the judges are ready when we have the deadline. 2 suggestions: 1) not make a challenge that goes for 3 month 2) not changing deadline a couple of days before (already changed once) deadline.
I think the judges a completely free to take their time under these circumstances.
Anyways, I´m of untill tuesday. I´m going to sit in the bush in front of our caravan and play and read books.

Its not the judges that bug me, its that we get no f***ing information about whats going on.... zzZzZZzzZzZZ. We dont even know if the judges just need more time, or if they arent available at all. If a judge is not available (which is never a problem, no matter if you change deadline or not) it should be made public, like in the last challenge with Grisha. And it should be made public when the judgments supposed to end.

Grisha promised me in the last challenge to jude during the last possible days. But he didn´t and didn´t pass me a message that he doesn´t judge. So.. he was lazy, he ****ed us.

Has anyone PMed these judges (Ricardo, Kate + Harold etc.)? If not I'll send them a little reminder.
To my taste we can stop judging now, before my position gets worse and worse damn... i didnt thought that it would turn out that funny. I bet florian does not find it funny at all jeez... a crazy challenge imo.

Naw Deniz,
I appreciate your (and others) frustration here.
This Challenge has certainly been the most interesting of all of them as far as I am concerned.
This thing with the Judges...
It annoys me when someone commits to doing something and then backs out without giving notice to anybody.
I was the first to bring this up in the Beginner's challenge a while ago.
Judging responsibility is handled FAR too casually here and I would submit that anyone who is asked and accepts to be a Judge adheres to their responsibilities and not just drop out at sudden notice due to something more interesting coming up.
Shame on you.
At least keep up to date with any last minute alteratations to the schedule or file a reason why you will have to drop out.
That's just plain ignorant and lack of respect IMO.
People have put a lot of time and thought into this Challenge and it is complete arrogance or dismissal of giving your word for the sake of your own personal interests that leave everybody hanging on and cause these Challenges to end in confusion and frustration.
If you commit to having the respect to be asked and considered a Judge, then please reciprocate that by honouring the dignity those members who have practised hard for it and uploaded their entries.
If you cannot meet these obligations, then please inform the Forum of any sudden commitments beforehand and don't just "leave it 'cos it doesn't matter"
RE: The Cante accompaniment challeng... (in reply to JasonMcGuire)
Ron thanks for your comment. Did you had contact to Florian? I am not that severe when it comes to the judges. A judge can step out ANYTIME imo. But a judge has the responsibility to inform the organization. And the organization has a responsibility to inform the public, especially the CHALLENGERS. It is not acceptable if somebody from the "outside" now, after 5 days, has to mail a judge.
Another thing is the huge difference in the quality of the judgments. Im not sure if every judge listened to all audios...;) some comments were even somewhere between disinterest, incompetence and (almost) offense. They just dont reflect the hard work everyone here has put in it.
For the future challenges i would propose a deadline for judgments. It gives transparency and security for the challengers.

Yes that is a good idea and we did do that for one of the other challenges that Anthony and I did. We knew one of the judges couldn't be available for two days, so we made that the deadline for judging.
I think we actually do have an obvious winner on the 6 scores we already have, someone who has scored consistently high (though not always the absolute highest). So we could close the challenge, while leaving it open for more comments. Because it's the comments that matter most - that's what we all learn from. But that's Flo's call I think. I'm just the hired help - I do as I'm told
RE: The Cante accompaniment challeng... (in reply to Ron.M)
Further to that, I think if you are a judge please take your scoring seriously. Doit's comments and judged scores are pretty inane imho.
Jason, Norman, Ricardo fantastic well thought out comments. I love to see how you analyze the music. I am learning from your responses just by osmosis.
To the other judges not as qualified, your ability to discern the performance best to your ear is still very important and score appropriately. It is like the stock market, some invest knowledgeably, some not, but the market totality is pretty close to optimum. It is hard to beat the stock index!
I have really enjoyed listening to this challenge, and all the competitors have done a fantastic job. There is only one for certain and one not so much that I can recognize!

RE: The Cante accompaniment challeng... (in reply to cathulu)
overall - although having to wait for our scores as a challenger is almost unbearable :) - it's been a great challenge and i'm happy with what most judges had to say and the way they rated us...there was one who i felt was really too harsh on us... Ricardo (not talking about him in the previous line) gave Lubina a 0, but while he's right with what he had to say, if you listen to the same thing again trying to disregard the palmas which somehow is totally out of place with everything (which i don't quite understand how it happens as we had a ready mp3 to download, now how come only the palmas is off beat? technically this is a mystery to me), the guitar sounds fine on the cante, although yes it's still off at places, but a 0 is not very nice...respectfully, i think you should have acknowledged the effort at least...it hasn't decided anything and would've saved the challenger from a sudden rise of adrenaline :)...i know i would've been disappointed...
next time we should put a deadline to judging as well so we'll know what to expect... overall i'm satisfied and am happy to have heard so many different ideas on the same cante... let's be patient and let's not fight among ourselves...

i am cool with it...i am looking foward to upload the video of it...i said the 12th at the latest in the message to all judges.....but if 1 more score wont make much difference to the ladder then i am cool....let the guys in the challenge decide, il go either way..
congratulations guys you all did greate some brilliant brilliant entries and playing and i am so proud of all of you and honoured to have done this with you, thank you for giving us your time and energy..and thank you to the judges
i am gonna make a video of my entry....please do the same if you like we can compare notes and borrow ideas...i was so so impressed with some entries, some beautiful playing...truly..the falsetas, the intros ...wow, really amazing stuff
i wasent too pleased with my entrie to begin with but i thought it oh will be enough to save face...and then i listened to the first couple of entries ...and i thought .."Oh sh*t "
this is the idea and the reason of doing this challenge so that we all learn on it, bring our flows out into the open and work on correcting them (ofcourse it stings and you not gonna like everything you hear back, and some might even be wrong or you disagree but its up to you, what u take in what you leave out, whats usefull whats not..thank you to those thaat gave their opinions, thats not eazy too) ...i dont wanna hear of anyone holding their head down or beeing discouraged or dissapointed...u guys rised up to the ocassion and thank you...the fact that some of you who never ever accompanied and had oportunities to accompanie did this and did good enough or tried its just brilliant..
one thing that never fails is that you guys never ever fail to inspire me
