If this challenge is going to be worth anything. We should have the same possibilities. Meaning that we should have easy acces to the same material.
So as long as the longer version is not easily available to everyone, it should not be accepted for the challenge. There should be a link to the material on page 1 first post. Thats my opinion. Square but fair.
So what are the rules?
well i asked...i said , discuss it tell me how you feel...should we or shouldnt we have an intro...many said we should...not many other said no...the "yes" people got their vote..
and it was uploaded , i uploaded it to rapid share and asked someone if they would mind getting it from there and upload it here since my conection always dies out for any upload over 3 mbs here...there was no replie...i assumed everyone in just got what they needed..and it was fine..
now if theres anyone who needs it...email me at florianremus1@hotmail.com and il email it to you...or if anyone has it and can upload it here...do that
the rules are the same as all the other challenges....one instrument...no double guitar track..no other instruments...be able to play it all in one go..audio format subbmited mp3 128 kbps 44.000 khz...u can record higher but the one that will be judged should be that
RE: The Cante accompaniment challeng... (in reply to Florian)
Florian, I know you uploaded the file, and I think its a good idea with a longer intro. The other file was a bit short. I also went to Rapid share, but to late. The file was already gone.
The file should be easy to get hold on. It should be on the first post.
SO, could one of you guys who has downloaded the file, upload somewhere with public acces. Eventually here on the foro, and send Florian the link to the file, so that he can edit his first post and put a link to the longer version.

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to compete: I was discharged from hospital last week, and am still having trouble sitting long enough to play
So what's the situation as far as judges are concerned? Do we have enough yet? If not, I'll volunteer (qualification: many years of listening to/ appreciating cante)
RE: The Cante accompaniment challeng... (in reply to Florian)
my computer is dead, im hoping it will get back before the deadline.
im trying to record on a mac laptop but it can´t handle the imovie and cante playback at the same time, and if that weren´t enough. i lost my capo so it will be in Bphryg (granaina)

Another way socialism shortchanged his people... unbelievable.

A a sign of international solidarity with the Slovenian people I propose we all shorten September to 30 days.
I further suggest donating the extra day to our Flamenco Forum Fund

How about we contribute also those 3 days they lost in February, as well...

man, you are altruistic! I wanted to hoard them [no icon for "gloat, gloat"]
Ahahahah
But think, days could have quite a value in no time, 21. 12. 2012 is near my friends. Start saving your days for later. We've been doing it for quite some time now in Slovenia. December only has 6 days left (so kids can still get presents from St. Nicholas and old socialists can grunt about it).

'glad you appreciated my take on socialism, Matic. On the other hand, you worry me with this 12.21.12 (as we order dates here, mm.dd.yy.) it is becoming a recurrent subject on television, that the end of world is expected bya later than the US had planned it for.....?

oh well...i´ve done about 20 takes of it each day for 2 week on Kristins laptop and nothing was good enough ...just did 9 takes now and i erased them all.
theres something with the timeing thats so ****in difficult to get. With the loop and all it seems like it woud be easy but i think its hard as hell.
it simply doesnt sound like Diego Maya playing for Capullo de Jerez and that buggs me..

god knows theres no guarantees ..getting it to sitt just right on a recording is another thing...i very much doubt il be submitting mine after 3 takes whatever advantage u think i might have if any can be eazly overcomed over a couple of hours
RE: The Cante accompaniment challeng... (in reply to Florian)
I've done a couple of takes..it sounds pretty good, I know I've got the right chords and everything but for some reason I always feel like I'm overpowering the singer. I think you REALLY have to strip it down during the parts where he's actually singing and then just kinda fill in the gaps... I got so used to the track with just kickass cante that my guitar sounds like an intrusion now

strangely, i feel the same way, my guitar sounds too much for this cante...perhaps i'm too hard on the strings...but it didn't take much time to figure out what and how i'll play, fortunately... it'll be really interesting to hear different accompaniments for the same thing...
RE: The Cante accompaniment challeng... (in reply to Florian)
i dont have a problem with the volume of the guitar its more that it doesnt fit with the cante. the timeing is no like on a "real" record also my playing dosent have a flamenco tone to it

Yeah me either it's more just the amount of notes that I'm playing.... When you play solo you get used to filling every moment with sound but for cante it's an exercise in holding back, even just hitting one or two chords per compas, and then knowing when to fill in when you need to. Tricky tricky.

Im going to record nothing and send back the original cante file as my entry, together with the words: the cante is so good it doesnt need accompainment... No, of course i wont do this. I will find a falseta, make 5 takes of the whole thing and then send it. Why bother with something that is so subjective (cante accomp)? I have most of it (execpt falseta), and i like it more or less. I just hope for some good advice from the judges. For now, i did the best i can, so its useless to wreck your nerves about it...

RE: The Cante accompaniment challeng... (in reply to Andy Culpepper)
we never hear variations of accompaniment on the exact same cante, this makes the whole thing exciting...we may have heard variations of the same letras sung by different people, but never exactly the same...we call this a challenge but whatever the outcome, it'll make my day, hopefully many people will be sending in what they did...not just a few as in other challenges...this is for all levels and is truly about the exchange of ideas...this challenge is a great idea and hopefully more like this will follow in the future!

Cante accompaniment isn't really very subjective. The range of what is acceptable is broad, but not nearly as broad as the range of things that are NOT acceptable.
There really isn't a such thing as a soloist who doesn't know cante accompaniment. It just doesn't happen.
