Agree with Ailsa. My attempt won't be near as fast as the original. One reason is I didn't really have as much time to practice as I thought I would. Other is that I'm INTERMEDIATE and am not at all able to do it at Moraito's level. But it's all fun! Though it would be nice to win those prizes Another time maybe.

OK now here's a related question about speed. What if you can play most of it at a decent pace but there's one teeny bit that's just a big fluff-monster Should you slow the whole thing down just for the sake of a couple of notes? Or put up with the fluffiness for that bit?

I wanted to ask which loop to use. I was going to use Florians, but that doesnt work out coz of the medio compas. Does someone have a loop with only contrapalmas and no cajon? I have to record it either today or tomorrow since im away on thursday a longer time.

Deniz, how about this one? I can also slow it down a bit.

Well, the worst part is definetly the five notes of triplets. I just can't get them to sound and I fluff them.
So I will either do as Ron suggests and simplify the triplets, which if I do I should be able to play at slow bulerias speed, or play even a bit slower (the slow slow speed) and keep them in.
I must admit the slow slow bulerias to me sounds ok, not something you would dance to, but something to listen to. But, I find my actual rhythm tempo to be more quicker so I tend to rush parts of the slow slow bulerias and have to slow down.
I guess I will make the decision one way or the other soon. Glad to hear I am not the only one in this boat - it is OK not to be Moraito!

Does that advice hold for the beginners challenge too? That is a study, rather than a composition (not sure if that's much of a distinction!) but I still want to make it sound like flamenco!
RE: Challenge, Intermediate Thread (in reply to henrym3483)
Arash and Ricardo, thank you guys! Do you have more? What would be cool is having it sordas/clear like in Ricardos loop, but with "more" contras like in Arashs loop! Like if every beat is "contra-ed"

Ah finally its done. I have to say i underestimated the falseta, plus i had examinations in university and now i "have to" go on holidays, so i couldnt give it more than 5 days practising or so .. normally i need weeks. Anyways, maybe next time!
RE: Challenge, Intermediate Thread (in reply to XXX)
Congrats, Deniz, first one to deliver!
Yeah, it's quite a tough one, isnt it? I've been practising the falseta like a madman, and still it's hard to make it flow happily along the way it should.
Some problems: getting into the groove from the first of those fat chords of the intro
going smoothly over to the arpeggios
hitting that first rasgueado with distinct stop before picado
picado, well ...
getting that happy bonce to the compas in the end.
Anyway, it's been great fun, and it has really turned me on to Moraito. Now I wanna learn the whole thing.
I really want to upload something to the challenge, but i have no recording equipment and no knowledge of that stuff whatsoever. I'm considering buying an mp3 recorder. Anyone got any experience with those? Useful? Ok sound? Waste of money?
Anyway, thanks for the challenge, and I'm really looking forward to hearing what you all made of it.

if you must pracice the entire thing then yes slow down to the tempo of the part that is top speed of your most difficult passage....but for practicing the more time efficient method is to rhythmically loop the difficult passage at a manageable tempo, and dont' stop working on it and speeding up gradually, until you have it at the speed it needs to be to match the rest.

i played this falseta 50 times last night still cant get the timing right on the picado.
i proably just do the recording the night before and be done with it.
Just work on the timing of the picado byitself in a rhythmic loop, maybe just 3 or 6 beat over and over....doesn't have to be in compas, but has to be in some perfect felt and even rhythm....
RE: Challenge, Intermediate Thread (in reply to Matic)
Very EXCITING
I cant wait to hear the entries..i am getting nervous for all of you ..abut also excited...one of you gets to be our first winner ever..with the prizes and everything
RE: Challenge, Intermediate Thread (in reply to henrym3483)
I working on it. Would need more time to sort all the weaknesses, but I'll submit whatever I end up with. I was going to record it the last day, but the 24th is when the wrecking crew comes to demolishing the bathroom in my apartment

RE: Challenge, Intermediate Thread (in reply to cathulu)
I was just listening to the Moraito falseta just now.
The picado thing ends on the 6 and the rest is all pulgar.
Just count "One and Two and Three" from the twelve (on One) playing ANY picado really...and pick up on the 7 with the thumb....and an ordinary Bulerias ending with 6 beats added so the 3 picks up on the 9 and then everything is back to normal. (That's the way it sounds to me anyway!)
I think you guys are over complicating it with the tabs etc, reading it like it was a piece of Classical music or something!

Me too, I am going to fire mine off tomorrow before my fingernails are completely shot. I am holding them together with some Crazy Glue, I hope it lasts or my tone will totally suck!

Man, damage to the hands so close before the deadline is horribly.. Me also had a "small" damage last friday.. I spilled a bottle of hot liquid chemicals on my left hand when I tried to take it out of the microwave in the lab. Somebody boiled it and forgot it there.. This dumb person only laid the screw-top on the bottle instead of closing it a little bit.... It was a shock!!!! Thank god that is was already half chilled!!!!!

this sounds like a super hero story where something goes wrong in the lab and the guy ends up with super powers. let us know if you develop any powers. and also, if you decide to be an evil villain or super hero.

i won't even be able to try to record until the last moment...which is a good thing, because yesterday i managed to file my nails too short and my P will need two more days until its fine again...
