How easy is it to record seperate audio and then put it together with the video? quote:
Don't bother trying to synch audio and video, unless you have a very good reason and I can't think of one. Orson, if you're asking about simultaneously recording with a camera and an audio recorder and subsequently synching the audio and video files, it's a relatively easy and worthwhile endeavor. The audio of some video cameras is of very poor quality, but if you have good video software you can easily substitute the audio for a separately recorded track. In the program that I use, audio and video appear onscreen as horizontal beams that can be dragged with the mouse. However, it would be more difficult to try to match audio and video of two different performances of the same piece of music. I may be wrong but I think that's what Escribano was referring to. In theory, though, I guess it could be done almost as easily if you used the same click track, palmas loop, etc.

Hi Vic My panasonic LX3 camera shoots video in motion jpeg in a quicktime MOV container. Youtube was not getting anywhere with that. A lot of cameras use m-jpeg and the files are huge. So I used a program called MP4cam2avi (free shareware and safe) to convert the MOV container with m-jpeg to an AVI container with XVID video codec. Although when I do a mediainfo check it says it is DivX 5... basically the same thing though anyways. I suggest you first use a program called mediainfo (also free shareware and safe). This will tell you exactly what is in your camera's AVI container. I suspect it is also a m-jpeg video codec file. From there we can possibly help you more if you still need it. Anyways, try MP4cam2avi. It should convert your source AVI files to a more amenable codec for youtube. The thing to realize is that AVI is just a "container" with your video in a "video codec" and your audio in an "audio codec" inside the container. Other containers are AVI, MOV, MP4, MKV, etc... Youtube can handle AVI containers, it is the video codec in your AVI container that appears to be the problem. So basically the thingamajig is causing the doohicky to get all out of whack? I gave up on that little piece of crap camera...I have a friend thats going to be coming this way and I'm just going to have her bring me a decent camera that can hopefully create better quality videos. The quality and sound sucked anyway, and the fact that it only creates huge AVI files is apperently a problem, plus my connection is so slow that I had a hard time even trying to convert the file. Most programs said it was too big to convert anyway. I ended up getting frustrated and forgetting about it. At any rate, I appreciate everyones input and help. I hope to try this again soon with a different camera. Vic
