Embarrassing moments in guitar making

The internet always throws things back in your face. On the other hand maybe I should do this again?

Your rosette displays a similar black patches upon white field effect as is found on Harlequin Great Danes. You can call it a Harlequin Rosette.

For clarity, the following is a picture of a Great Dane sporting the distinctive Harlequin colouration:

You can tell that’s a AI Great Dane by counting the toes.

Ok less embarrassing but here’s my first rosette. It’s a slice of Corian countertop cast acrylic about 1mm thick cut into a ring. I never put a finish on her, I took that photo just moments ago, and for those paying attention it’s a three piece top with the middle mostly flat sawn cause. It stabilized once I decided it might live longer with half a step less tension: muei ramantaco. I still play her every day but just not in public.

Regarding the first rosette, were you embarrassed about the notch that would reside under the end of the fingerboard? I'm sure if that were filled in with something black it would be unnoticeable.

Sorry, but I find both aesthetically unprepossessing, perhaps ill conceived, and not consistent with the beauty of other work done by both of these amazing luthiers.

My first one had a break in the outer border purfling that crapped out the curve. I managed to convince myself it would be OK and went ahead and finished the guitar and then every time I'd look at it afterwards I'd go FACK!!
