Trashed Esteso?

Wandering the web I ran into this sadly abused purported Esteso. Not for weak stomachs, whatever it is:

Give it a few more repairs and a new guitar will be born inside from all those patches.

Looks like normal wear and humidity damage....otherwise pretty good shape for a 1931! I would buy it if I had the money.

absolutely awesome project for someone .. it looks like it was started and given up on .. it would be a lot of work .. and i think you would have to know your way around guitar building pretty good to make it worth it .
it would only be worth doing if you could make it super duper like new ...
for a luthier it could be a gem of a find ....

If you follow the sequence of photos it documents some type of attempt at a restoration.
They did did more harm than good, it was better off before they touched it. Too bad.

They cleaned it the wrong way and added too many to heavy cleats where more modern restoration practices would have been better. It is an eyesore, to undo the damage the "repairer" did will be difficult.

Main thing wrong is they enhanced the buckling of the top at the crack junctures the with the type of cleats they used. That top could have been made perfectly flat! And they over cleaned it in my opinion, basically skinning the history off the instrument. An insensitive restoration.
