If you take the few minutes to do the chamfer first and square up the veneer edge, you don't have to mess with it later. No doubling back to saw the veneer or plane it.
I didn't know there was a "good way". Seems to me that whatever works for you is the best way. Perhaps you could inform us as to the correct way to do this?
For some time I have suspected you are a 'ringer'- a person on the foro who uses this identity to say nasty things because you are too cowardly to use your real profile with your own name. Interesting that this way works well for you. I always find that the veneers and headplate squirm around when I clamp them. What I do is make sure there is overhang on the sides and the fingerboard end. Then, after gluing, I bandsaw off most of the overhang on the sides and block plane the veneers and headplate flush to the sides of the headstock. Then I use the table saw (with miter gauge) to cut off the overhang on the fingerboard side, with the neck face down on an MDF spacer, with the blade set to the height of the spacer. The trick is to remember which side of the cut the blade belongs on!
Whatever works for you I have found a good use for yoga mat I locate the veneers with two brads in the waste area and just clamp it down onto a piece of yoga mat on the bench. Gives uniform pressure over the surface and just conforms to the brad heads

I pretty much do the same thing, but I use hide glue on the veneer a do a rubbed joint by hand for 30 seconds and it pins the veneer in place. The I push it undo next to to the square with a little extra force an clamp it. Then I check to make sure the headplate indexed perfectly off the square.
I don't have a table saw anymore, so I had to reinvent some of my old tricks. All I have now is a drill press and a planer jointer I can use at a ceramic artists shop. It's a good excuse to drive over to his place to drink a few beers. After the planer....

Brads as index pins for various jobs are underrated.
However I use my yoga mat for tree pose, downward dog and naps.
Well, it's good to get to know your hand tools better anyway. I'm glad you are able to do it all with limited power tools.
About brads: I find them very OVERrated for keeping fingerboards from sliding around during gluing. I used to use one or two inside the first and 11th fret slots, but, after one disaster, have resorted to screwing strips of wood to the excess neck beside the fingerboard. (The disaster resulted in a guitar with a head off center which I sold at a discount to someone who loves it anyway.) I use yellow glue. Maybe these are reasons why I should be using hide glue, which I have avoided because it annoys me that people think it makes guitars sound better.
I couldn't figure out what your profanity was here. I pondered it over a bowl of Frosted Flakes but I just couldn't see it. So I was hoping to make like a game of Wheel of Fortune out of it and ask for another letter or a vowel. But then I see that in the reply window, it's not censored. So there goes that. Who knows, it might have been fun.
This is what I use Ethan. No need to heat it up. Just use it straight out of the bottle. The thing with this glue to be careful with is that it can stain light colored woods so I don't use it for top joining, rosettes or bindings on cypress. I pretty much use it for everything else. I especially like it for glueing braces. Just some light hand pressure on the brace for a few seconds to get the glue to stick, then I brace them in the go bar deck.
Thanks to a tip from Tom Nunez I've been using fish glue for top bracing for some time now. Another nice aspect of it is squeeze out and tools clean up easily with water but make sure to dispose of the clean up cloth and water since it can get really smelly in short order.
Two things I can't stand, pot and cigareetes, I know I'm strange. Both weed and cigaraeets make me gag like a maggot, I hate being around either of them.
I don't even know how to spell cigareets properly I detest them so much. I have a few friends that smoke and it is a testament to how much I like them as people that I don't choke them to death for smoking near me. Not killing them usually invovles giving me a beer. Someone could be smoking 200 feet from me and if they are up wind and it blows to me and I smell it I think I want commit homicide.
Speed is the drug more common in Japan, but I have heard you can get pot. I'm sure in Tokyo or Osaka you can get or take part in any perverse act you desire, while high on any drug you can name. It all has a price tag and if you have the money, you're in.
You must have a ball in Spain. I'm a smelly smoker. I lurv it. But we're two peas in a pod about smelling someone else's smoke.
They should ban it for everyone else on the planet but me. Of course we all second-hand breathe but all reeked-up it's disgusting. I stopped for three years then had to decide between killing someone or taking solace in my filthy habit. I am weak.
But I could never give up on weed. I'm Paco, but without the talent, the plastic bag (wot I just found out he sticks his hand in) and the hairline (thank you God, should you exist).
I used to drink an awful lot of beer until I realized it tastes like ****e.
My problem with smokers is compounded by breathing issues brought on by being sensitized to different species of wood. A combination of being around smokers an breathing wood dust could land me in the emergency room. I worked around construction sites and in shops without proper dust extraction and it has caused problems. Over the years it can build up.
Guitar makers have to be extra careful because the types of woods we use can be very toxic, and you might not even know you are getting sensitized while it happens. And the fine particulate dust from woods like ebony and cocobolo can be very dangerous.
I like breathing very much and I don't let anything get in the way of me doing that freely and deeply.
That experiment was reviewed in 1968 in a crackpot journal. Now there are new accurate an realistic studies about asthma and new drugs for asthma. I have better asthma drugs and modern information. Don't need the article.

I have never seen a maggot gag. But I for one don't do either but love the smell. Of both I think. I am always around it it seems. Even now I perform weekly in what I think is the only indoor venue that allows smoking left on the earth. Growing up with smoke in my house I just get pure nostalgia from the smell on my clothes. When someone lights up way across the room I know it and I get this amazing feeling from the scent. The only thing I love more than that smell is a freshly sprayed poly urethane orange conde. mmmmmmmmmm
That's an unfortunate ailment for a man of your profession. Just be thankful nobody's sticking you up a chimney.
You mentioned you wanted to talk about guitars? There's a discussion about bowing and neck relief going on. I don't understand that stuff but I do understand they're discussing the most important thing, to me, about a guitar.
The 'Goldilocks' feel. What's yer take and can it be fine-tooned in any way? This is the only part that needs to be consistent across every build (for a reputation to stick). I don't believe that it's even objective (like art), 'cause it is so obvious (when tested). Before all the crap kicks in, there is the feel. (I get that it's all 'interconnected' with many dependencies across 'dimensions', 'n that, but Anders has me 100% convinced that he has 'the knowledge'. It seems an incredibly deep knowledge is entiry confident of itself. No secrets. Doing it is the tricky bit.
Anyway, Anders' comments were a delight. Whadya fink about those bits? I know, headstocks have a right to be zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
