Victory Island Cypress

Does anyone here know what the "Victory Island Cypress" that Maderas Barber currently has on sale is? I assume it's another name for Yellow Cedar or some other North American species, but I could even be wrong about that.

I asked them Anders but the reply which they provided for Dorado didn't match any scientific name on the internet!

What scientific name did they tell you?

Maderas Barber is one of very few places where I will never again buy online.

They have very nice woods, but Valencia is pretty far from here.

I wish I kept the email but I deleted it, they provided a reply which provided no useful information! Not speaking Spanish, the reply which I got back through Google Translate produced a nonsensical piece of information.

I was thinking of getting a Palo Escrito set for a steel string (Panama RW, but good quality sets of it are rarer than Rocking Horse faeces) but I read you bought some from them which wasn't very good. Ended up with a set of very old reclaimed Cuban Mahogany instead (from a 19th Century Table). Mahogany and steel string guitars is a pretty solid combination anyway.

Have you ever used David Dyke's tonewood? http://www.luthierssupplies.co.uk/

(apologies for going off topic)

Strange, but Rafael and I stopped buying from Barber too, for falta de respeto, Howeverr, up until his death, Rafa was very happy with Madinter.

RE: Victory Island Cypress (in reply to Jim Kirby

I went to the Maderas Barber site and nowhere could I find any scientific description of the woods--"Victory Island Cypress" and Dorado. I googled Victory Island and came up with nothing although I suspect Maderas' Victory Island may be Victoria Island B.C. which is another name for Vancouver Island BC (most likely) or Victoria Island which is almost closing in on the North Pole (doubtful there are many tress there). I suspect it is a wood from Canada. Pretty poor website operations if the scientific names are not listed--or they have something to hide.

The Dorado wood looks life a relief map and googling it yielded nothing. Maybe this wood is from El Dorado, the lost city of cypress, which means it is up there with the last cypress tree from the Alhambra.

I have the feeling that Maderas Barber sell 99% of their wood to all the factories in Valencia and nearby provinces.
I buy most of my wood in Madinter.

I´m sorry to hear about Rafael. I did´t know that he had died.

Yes David Dyke supplies decent wood but its expensive, you cannot buy online and he doesn't do email. You must speak on the phone or visit.
