Good news for the forum
It costs $100 (£60) a month to host this forum which has been a bit of a struggle in the last year since I left Microsoft, but I have just launched my first app on the iPhone and Android for the City of London.
It's been 3 months of tough 12-hour days and no days off, which is why I have been very quiet... but now the monthly fee for managing these apps will cover our costs.

Holy smokes, I didn't know it was that spendy! Thank you so much for your generous hosting of this place. It does not go unappreciated! I know you've always been resistant to the idea in the past, but any time you want to start hitting us deadbeats up for donations...

Thanks, it is pricey because we have big database and our previous experience with shared hostering was horrible. To keep performance, control and flexibility we have our own VPS with enough space to expand.
I have resisted donations because it might divide the community between those who expect stuff for free and those who contribute. I also expect donations would be few and tail off, so I would not be able to rely on it.

Simon,
Congratulations on your success. I want to join others in expressing my gratitude for your efforts in maintaining the Foro as a place for flamenco enthusiasts, both professional and amateur, to impart and receive knowledge and advice on all aspects of the genre. It is also enjoyable to engage in the sometimes rough-and-tumble of political debate in the "Off Topic" section. All in all, this is a great resource, and I commend you for keeping it going at such a high level.
Cheers,
Bill

just wanted to highlight the main phrase here............
1 >. Being a user , I most definately appreciate the effort in keeping the site afloat .
So just to put it into perspective ,,.... although I am working in Euros .... I do have something on my computer that came supplied by Microsoft (so you may already know this ) and it is called a "Calculator" ......... Start menu ......Programmes ....Accesories ....Calculator .......
And so I have used this , (lets call it a calculator App...) for a calculation of the Foro based on the info supplied ( as seen above ) ........ so i think 2 things .....
2>. 60 divided by an average of 30 days in one month is 2. ( divided by the number of active members ) Therefore it cost 2 per day to keep this place alive ...so I dont want to get all " Open University "on you all and start dividing throught the equasion by a factor of -0 , .to produce a Polynumber ...
but ......it seems to me that a little help may be needed .... it also seems to me that for a very small fee I could possibly even be in charge ,, and dictate to all what they should do and how , and why and everything ,....
2A> So for 60 pounds I could even control the entire forum for 1 month of the year .... this 2B> helps Escribano ..and ... inadvertently assists the Meglamaniac in me ... which brings us to
3A. . for a small fee ..(Microsoft Calculator app coming into play again here ) 60 ,pounds , or ..60 divided by .....for example 4 , weeks in one month , would equal 15 ...I could demand control of the entire Foro .for even 1 week !!....and so everyone would have to play ...maybe for example .. ...Sevillanas ......or maybe .Caracoles .......just to please our new ( temporary ) Emperor........and glorious leader ..........
3B > A Permanent statue should be made as well..........
Anyway I may have digressed , slightly ., a small amount here , the point being , for a small ammount I will help .....others may .... 4> Please Write here for me ........where and how .......to donate......
We are all here together and really do not need to see Snr. Escibano struggle .....

Simon,
Really nice app. Great job. Should be a winner. I downloaded it. (I think all of us on the Foro should download it, in support of Simon, and then plan to actually use it, ...or dream about it.)

Simon, could you not have a voluntary "subscription", say $50.00 for a year, more or less, whatever one could afford, to the forum? You would not have to differentiate between subscribers and non subscribers... I don't think many of us would care a whit. It would be nice if you could remind us when our 'subscription' ran out (on a yearly basis) or take a (any)month of the year, and say "prescriptions due, if you care". Those who can't or don't care to contribute for whatever reason, could just ignore the message... Those of us who want to contribute could do so. Please don't think of it as a donation - more as a voluntary prescription, it is a very real service you provide. You have united folks from all parts of the world. Pardon my ignorance, but I will now feel guilty ( Don't think I'm alone) logging on to the forum when I now realise it actually costs someone (you) money to host this forum. Please allow us who'd like to contribute, a way to pay our way. Cheers, Dave
Simon, could you not have a voluntary "subscription",
I do agree with this but not with ammounts or time or reminders or anything else you said ..( sorrry ) ..I think that a donation should be voluntary and depending on what you wanted to give at that time ....e.g some one may put in 10 then a few months later another 10 etc...
After all you have 5602 registered users, so even if everyone gave 1 , euro , dollar or pound , it would be a lot , but not all will , some will and some may another year ....
However I think that many of the regular users would be happy to help Escribano out with this place , , even if it only got a month or 2 free for him it would be a start ... donations would be private and no extra privalages would be given , or expected , by those who gave....except we keep the foro alive and going .......
Thanks for all your ideas etc. Since posting this, I have sold four more copies of the DVD, which may be coincidental, but really helps. I'll ponder on donations but I think I can come up with something more interesting for everyone.

Thank you, Simon - for all the work you do to keep this place going. Count me in as someone who is willing to make donations or even pay a subscription. I have learned a lot and met some cool people here, and hope to continue doing so.

I haven't a clue what an "APP" is! Or even if I can download it on my old steam-powered computer.
But I'd be more than happy to donate whatever you might feel is appropriate? And consider it money very well spent. . .
(Or, if you don't want money, how about a nice bushel basket of fresh-picked Asian Pears - average retail value about $50-$60).
Good luck with your projects, and much appreciation for everything you're doing for all of us out here.

DVD? Link please?
Also, I wouldn't be afraid to ask for donations. Even as a poor grad student, I could chip in a few bucks here and there. This forum is an amazing resource. Thank you!
