Proud parenting moment

Something happened last night that got me pretty excited and I thought I'll share with you fellow guitar-enthusiasts.

I have a six-month-old daughter, and I stay at home with her (I work at night after my girlfriend gets home from her job). I noticed she's very interested in my guitar, trying to crawl to it all the time and always pays attention when I play (happens a lot as you can imagine).

Last night I remembered that I picked up a tiny guitar from a garage sale a while ago. I took it out and tuned down the strings so she won't be able to break them if she pulls on them. She was loving it, banging on the soundboard (golpes?) and even managed to strum and produce sound. The kicker was when she suddenly reached under the neck with her left hand, curving it under and trying to reach the fretboard (her hand is too small though) as if she knew how to play! I was practically crying with joy, so proud of my little girl.

Having kids is definitely one of the most wonderful things that can happen to you in life, and something to look forward to for you guys that have yet to experience it.

If I were you chester, I would make her constantly listen to flamenco!! or have flamenco playing in the house, ALWAYS! so that the compas become very natural for her at such a young age. I wish my parents did that for me.... if you do that, maybe one day by the age of 10 or something, she will be an amazing tocaora !

Thanks for all the comments guys, I'm feeling the love!

Rumbaking - congratulations on your daughter's first recital, it's an amazing feeling when you see your children turn from helpless little babies into functioning human beings! Thanks for sharing your experiences and giving me even more to look forward to.

TK - thanks for the link to all those flash-based games! I see my social life rapidly plummeting into nothing.

Kudo - I hear what you're saying but take a look at rumbaking's post, about how he thinks his kids think flamenco is "Dad's music". It's a very fine line between getting people interested in something you're interested in, and cramming it down their throats (not implying anything). Also, I love many different kinds of music, not only flamenco. I'm always listening to something - sometimes it's Van Halen, sometimes Camaron, sometimes Mingus, Aphex Twin, Debussy, etc.

From what I understood, raising a child is like growing a plant - you need to give it water and sunshine, but you can't make a lotus into a rose (where did that come from?)

Gimar - Thanks! Is that you in the shiny red jacket playing a Les Paul?

Elie - Keep on hacking! =P

Agree on that!

My little son (2,5 yrs)gets a LOT of music in his face
We listen to flamenco, but a lot of different music as well, for example for night, for sleeping I put on some Händel, or Deva Premal, Lroreena McKennit and so on..

He's very sensible on music and has a good sense of rythm
