Antonio Reys course, amazing!

I just came back from Antonio Reys course. It was three days (9h) amazing :)
The whole man is pure rhythm and he's technique is just beyond words.
Also he's such a radiant person, really I feel so lucky to have seen him play and had the change to practice with him.
Im all exited and wanted to share this with other flamenco and guitar nerds.
Ole flamenco! Ole inspiration!

Nice man! I wanted to get in touch with him for private lessons this summer but it was out of my budget unfortunately... next time maybe!

RE: Antonio Reys course, amazing! (in reply to aleksi

Thanks guys.
We went through a lot of practicing material for right hand and left hand. It was not so much the material or the chords but the way how to execute it.
The most I was impressed by he's left hand. Its was so clear. He put a finger on the fret and never had to correct the placement, always perfect sound. And the way
he did the exercices was that it looked like he enjoyed every note, even in the cromatic exercices :)
The message was, practice everyday, concentrate (no tv when playing) and do everything precise and rhytmicly. Use metronome! Compas, compas, compas!
Don't over do and take care of your hands. Don't go too fast but concentrate on the music and sound,
We also talked that the sitting position has to be good. Vicente Amigo just had a surgery because of bad back and
Enrico de Melchors back is troubling him and it doesn't let him play with full potential.

Heh, actually now I see that these tips have been given thousand times here in the foro, but again I believe them and propably have patience to follow them for some time.
Antonio Rey…I need to get he's second album!

No TV when playing...

I know Vicente had herniated disc surgery some time ago (a year or two ago). Are you referring to that, or has he had ANOTHER operation done?

Care to share a bit more on what he said in regards to sitting positions then ? I fear this will bring trouble for me in the future, I have already inherited some back issues from my dad it seems.

Yes, that is back surgery indeed. Phew! I thought he got ANOTHER surgery!

So what did Antonio Rey advise regarding sitting position and back problems? I see his sits cross-legged like Paco de Lucia...

computers and laptops are fine at least nothing was said about them

the common habit with guitarist is that they are crouching and trying to see their left hand. Better for example to practice infront of a mirror and see the hand from there to keep a good posture.
Second thing is to have a good chair to sit. Not too low, not too soft not something that doesnt let you sit straight. But if you have too low chair you can put some cushion under to tweak it for your body.
In a nutshell its just to find a good chair to sit and learn to keep the good body posture.

RE: Antonio Reys course, amazing! (in reply to aleksi

of course
We had a HUG festival, Helsinki Universal Guitar festival, and Antonio was one of the main performers here. It was three consert evenings from friday to sunday and Antonio was playing friday with Raul Mannola, Ailin Bayaz, Farinia and one other cantaor. Saturday he was performing his solo material. Also Ralph Towner, Enver Izmaylov and Raoul Björkenheim were performing there.
So the course was held in the same time. The cost was 240€ including tickets to all the conserts. We were seven students. The organizer had planned it max 12 person, but not so many showed up. Good for us, bad for ornanizers

Oh yeah, and the art director (I dont know how you call it in english) for the festival this year was Raul Mannola who is legendary flamenco guitarist from finland and who has paved the way for others, and he got intouch with Antonio and got him visiting Helsinki.

Did you learn anything that's worth writing up in tablature (e.g. cool chords)? If so, I'm sure some hear would enjoy seeing it.

That's actually pretty good! He quoted me €120 for a private lesson... expensive but according to some people who have taken private lessons with him, it's worth every penny. Still seems pretty expensive to me... but I'm saving up for my next visit to Jerez!!

Oh I totally agree... hence me saving up!
The thing is though... I'm not sure whether I would really make something out of it due to my level as a guitarist... I can imagine very advanced guitarists really getting a lot more than me out of a lesson with Antonio... but still I would love to take a lesson, just to 'see' his toque, rather than just hearing it on the albums.

something there was
I recorded the classes, but I dont have anything on the paper. We played arpeggios for example with the basic villalobos etyd. and picados and pulgar with cromatic scales + lots of other stuff, but for me the lesson was to do everything well and with good attention and rhytm. And the fact that it was Antonio who played the exercises made me motivated
