Ramon Montoya, Sabicas, Nino Ricardo, Paco, etc...
im sure many said the same thing about them..
In early 1962 I was in the Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. On weekends I hung out at Fidel Zabal's club "Zambra" in Manhattan.
Sabicas occasionally showed up for the after hours juerga. I met several Spanish aficionados who said they would rather listen to Fernando Sirvent, the house guitarist, than Sabicas. Sabicas was too flashy, too many notes, too much "non-flamenco" stuff...

Lets see if he makes a CD in future
He already has one. It sounds interesting, I like his dark, atonal mood. It seems this youtube post is a recording of a stereo playing not the actual Mp3? Either way it seems like it's got a lo-fi production approach, which appeals to me. I don't know how I would classify his music but who cares there's something about it I like.
I'm still struggling with technical barriers. Players like Myrdinn, Jeronimo Maya, Grisha, Jason Maguire are beyond that. Then it becomes about artistic choices, does one have anything musical to say? When vocabulary and vision come together great things can happen; I'm very grateful there are artists pushing, creating even if the results don't always resonate with me. Vive el Arte!
I just passed Myridn a PM viea youtube and asked him where I can buy his CDs.. But he didnt reply.
Well,..I was a little disappointed..that he doesnt even answer with a 1-liner. Im sure he doesnt get bombarded with fan mail that he has no time to answer. Maybe he just cant understand engish.. I dont know. Anyway,,.. would have been nice to listen to his music. I dont like the bad youtube quality..I need a CD which I can put in my hifi and listen to that. :.(

Doit, if you use Facebook, add him there. I was chatting with him the other day. He DOES speak English. You can listen to his stuff in somewhat better quality than YouTube on MySpace. And I believe you can buy his discs from the links I provided above. Scroll up a bit, and you'll find them URLs.
Ramzi, next time you chat with him could you ask him whether he is leftie or rightie or both? And if so which hand did he start with etc, why he changed etc...

As a matter of fact, I DID ask him that. He said he has ALWAYS been a lefty. He learned to play the flute first, and at about age 14 he picked up the flamenco guitar. He NEVER learned classical guitar, although when I asked him he said he plays Bach because he's just so great (which I agree). He NEVER plays righty, but the videos were mirrored because of some technical error with the camera.
since I live about 50 km away from Myrdinn I can add he is a great musician and a great guitar player but since you already found out that isn't really breaking news. I've seen him a couple of times: solo, with another great guitar player Jose toral, with singers and ofcourse dance. I think he is one of the better belgian flamenco players at the moment. This is, for anyone who knows a little about the belgian politcs at this time, for as long belgium will still exist. (I hope forever but some do not agree) He comes like Estevan stated from a great family of all musicians. His father was and still is one of the best jazz players around....
I also posted something about Miyrdinn here when he's two guitars got stolen. He got them back in the end so ....

hassurb. in which part of Belgium do you live? French or Flemish? Is it true? I heard rumors that they want to separate both parts like north and south korea.
I live in the flemish part of the country but I have no difficulty in accepting two languages in one country. Since it's a right wing party of nationalists who got the majority of the votes last elections it's up to them to make a governement. But it's a rather difficult exercise since it's very very very difficult with brussels and dividing all the guilt and social security. It's a long discussion......
but on the bright side, we have a lot of good flamenco players here like Myrdinn and Emre and Jose Toral (but he moved back to spain). And in brussels al ot more but that's another part of the country so...

Holy CRAP @ that Solea por Bulerias. Just beautiful. Ramzi, do you think you could please send me a link to Myrrdin's Facebook page? I can't seem to find it, and I am very interested in talking to him and/or buying his CDs...

I guess he deactivated his Facebook account. I can't seem to find him on my friends list either.
He is one of my favorite guitarists period. A true genius. We talk a lot on FB together. People in his country ignore his talent. Its a shame. He is a treasure.
Did people talk crap about me before I came to the foro? What were they saying? Who was doing the talking?
Doit must be on his period too.
Its cool how people try to "figure out" players like Myrddin. Just enjoy. Listen or don't. If he doesn't inspire you to work on your ligado, thumb and arpeggio technique then you are bent.
He would love to have the opportunity to accompany singers. He has been talking about leaving his country to be in a more flamenco friendly environment. I sincerely hope he finds a place that can offer him a warmer reception than the one he gets at home. I find him to be a wonderful person from our conversations. His music does have a certain darkness which I like very much and suspect it is a reflection of the way he is overlooked in his country.
Had to bump this up because this guy's playing is not only technically masterful, but just plain fun and interesting to listen to. The darker vibe is very attractive to me.
It's sad to read Jason's comment that he is ignored in his country. He is obviously inspiring musicians all over the world. I picked up his album Lucia Nieve, but I haven't had any luck finding his first one yet.
I tried the other day, but I'm not able to download Imre from itunes - it's available on some international versions of itunes, but not for me in Canada. I tried changing stores in the itunes settings, but it won't work...
