Always very intense music from this guy. Lots of the bulerias reminds me of Jeronimo Maya.

Isn't he suppose to be lefty?

Look at the other vids in youtube to see how he is holding the guitar (backwards)

Isn't it possible that he's playing in front of a mirror? Or has the setting changed from his camera to make it seem like he's become a righty? Why would he want to change into a righty?

Awesome technique, aire, and compas, but the falsetas, I don't really know...

I think this is more than likely. Too play so well left and right handed seems strange to me.

I do know a guy who switched hands during the third year of his classical guitar degree but it was from right to left. He had a teacher when he was young who made him play right handed but he was actually a south paw.

Actually, I believe he has NOT changed which his fretting hand is versus his plucking hand. Look at this below video:

Notice in the opening seconds how you can see a mole on his cheek a bit lateral to his eye.

Notice how in this below video:

the mole has moved to the opposite eye, and still laterally located, and nearly in the same spot (taking mirroring into consideration).

RE: New Videos from Myrdinn (in reply to Arash

Probably he never was a leftie.
I liked the Tangos, the rest was a bit atonal for me tbh. He has his own style but often stays within a very small set of emotions/moods. Although i think hes a great composer and player, this fact makes it a bit tiring to hear a full piece by him. I mentioned in the past that he overuses that p-arp ligado thing, it occurs in EVERY falseta of the buleria now again. Yes you can play alot of notes with that ligados, but it is also nice to hear just one single line played straight with the thumb, or with picado once in a while IMO.

Far out he's got incredible slurs on the fingering hand and amazing index finger on the strumming hand.

Doesn't do picados though (but he doesn't need to I guess)

Nevertheless these videos have certainly given me a new inspiration on composition, although I think some segments do escape being flamenco IMO (I'm not sure if I would play that SpB or that last Bulerias in a Spanish Bar).

In fact that last Bulerias, I thought I was hearing a Bach Prelude or Patita of some sort.

I was gonna record myself and upload until I saw these, now my stuff sound real crap

Good player and interesting compositions. I agree with Deniz. Often, less is more. I would really like to hear his bulerias with some percussion. That would be completely different and maybe absolute awesome. Just imagine a good percussionist or some good orchestration and arrangements. That have the potential to rock the ****! Very good material IMO.

But you can clearly see that his background isn´t flamenco. His strumming sucks balls. He never played a note for a dancer..thats for sure. His focus lays only on the flasetas and not on the compas. Even within the falsetas there is no groove at all, just 1000 notes/minute. Well, its his unique style and because in flamenco you are free to interpret it as you like, I see no problem there.

What I didn´t like is, that he plays naked. He should wear some kind of shirt IMO!

I wouldn't go as far as saying that his strumming sucks balls

But he doesn't do the "normal" flamenco rasgueos I guess.

I believe he DOES have compas and groove nevertheless, esp on that shirtless buleria!

I believe i saw a real flamenco video of him with dancers and a group, but i agree with Doitsujin that his playing is more influenced by classical music and Nunez than dance or maybe even flamenco.

There is no way to find that out except upload it and try. Theres no excuse for not trying!

Well,..then its just another good example that we shouldnt judge a player by just listening to 1-2 pieces... ^^

So I correct myself. His strumming in this particular naked buleria is weak. Its very possible that he can do different if he wants to. At his level of playing one should be able to switch styles.

All ok then.

RE: New Videos from Myrdinn (in reply to Arash

all of the doubts and complaints people have about him, could be, and/or are had
regarding any player.

When something new comes along, it takes time for people to understand
what's happening.

Great to see Romb post his picado upload. It should have been obvious to everybody that a player of his stature could do great picado if he wanted to.
He simply doesnt choose to use it in his compositions.
I find that very refreshing. He's not intimidated into copying what everybody else is doing, and that takes balls.
I was hoping everybody was finally beyond the "is it true flamenco" crap.

Arent we all just lover of good music, and appreciators of talented players?

I think Myrrdin deserves a huge OLE. He is most certainly a very special player.

I remember many people here talking alot of crap about Grisha when his videos surfaced, and it continued until Grisha himself showed up on the forum, then suddenly, everybody changed their tune when the man himself was in their face.

Very telling.

Mixing different things together. Grisha was a different topic, people who complained about him mentioned very different things than here. Nobody here says he is not original or emotionless.
Regarding picado of Myrdinn you are right that he can do it, i think its obvious to everyone. That wasnt (at least my) point. I know NO good player who is so selectively fixed on one technique. A buleria with mostly picado/alzapua in EVERY falseta will always tire my ears. There are plenty of technical players who have alot of connection to flamenco in their compositions. This is surely "new" and original, but not the future of flamenco IMO. There are better examples.

Ramon Montoya, Sabicas, Nino Ricardo, Paco, etc...

im sure many said the same thing about them..

In relation to the "Pop" music side of things, i remember when Dave Mathews Band first popped up in the college scene. I told a friend of mine at the time, "They will never be accepted, or go anywhere. Christ, they have an F'ing violin player and a sax player in the band!! Pop fans just wont get it"

They are one of the top grossing bands of all time...

Not trying to say Myrddin is possibly the future of flamenco, im just saying, stranger things have happened, BY FAR...

And anyway, who the hell said anything about him being the future of flamenco??
I was just saying he's really good, and very orginal. Jeeeezzzzz

Lets see if he makes a CD in future.. He has so much material. I would be very interested in listening to it.

I like especially how everything fits together. His style, his appearance and even his name fits well..^^ A very special guy...as artists are..usually..

what a sight to behold, he's a flamenco guitarist and a classsical guitarist as well.

I love his Bach with his bright sounding tone. Sounds like a lute...

Yes. And hes one of the few classical experienced guys who fits in flamenco very well.
Usually the classical players all lack some degree of "dirtiness" which you need in flamenco.
