A big part of duende is standing your ground no matter how many are on your case.
I've never heard that before. But then even after two years learning, I still think of myself as a newbie, still learning new stuff about flamenco every day.

you might as all go and play for Madonna
is it OK to admit I like quite like Madonna? I mean not like Radiohead, who I adore. But if she asked me to play for her, I'd definitely say yes
We have on this Forum, many guitarists who have been following, studying, practising and playing Flamenco guitar for many years, some 20, 30 even 40 years. Some have spent a long time studying in Andalucia, (some even live in Andalucia) and some go to a summer school each year in Andalucia given by one of the finest Flamenco guitarists in the World.
Some are reknowned professionals in their own countries, recording, teaching and giving concerts and working with Spanish Flamenco artists on a daily basis.
Don't you think it's even the teensiest bit arrogant to come on this Forum looking for advice on buying a cheap beginner's guitar and as someone who knows nothing about any of the Flamenco forms and doesn't even own, or has ever played a Flamenco guitar and then begin to lecture to these people what they need to do to get in touch with the "true duende" of Flamenco the way YOU see it?
Hi duwen Firstly I'm really sorry about the attacking nature of my previous comment, its just that you need to understand that you are trying to lecture me and the other very respect-worthy members on this site/who are excellent guitarists to boot on the thing that we love and are passionate about and in some cases have built our lives around, therefore you are bound to irritate people especially since you have made it clear that you have little to no experience with flamenco! You may consider us lowlifes and undeserving of respect for thinking our years of experience are better than your 5 minute wikipedia searching but im my opinion whatever duende is im sure being passionate, harworking and happy in flamenco(which im sure many people here aim for) are far better paths towards it than trying to undermine experience and insulting people(which you seem to be doing). I hope you understand what i mean and try not to see this as another attacking message. Amor, paz, y arte flamenco para siempre!!
But this is why term 'duende' is very interesting to me, because it shows a deep connection between people who you wouldn't expext. Like the Mazatecs and Andalucian gypsies.
No it doesn't. It shows that the Spanish had colonies in the Americas and South-East Asia and left their language there.

But your wishful projection reminds me of a spacey friend who posited a direct connection between Indian classical music and American vernacular music because they both used the term 'rag' (in the former case actually rāg or rāgam, and the latter as in ragtime or specifically "Everyone's doin' that rag".)
A big part of duende is standing your ground no matter how many are on your case. I do not care if you gain ranks. I know my soul, and know freedom of speech. I know that sacred experience is not to be disrespected and so would any original Gypsy. And I am sure I would not be treated so badly like this by real flamenco people. In fact I am sure of it.
This has learned me that you people here who are scpagoating me because of what I have said are reall dis-ensouling flamenco. Maybe one day you will realize this. But you might as all go and play for Madonna!
If I ever hear the ones who have attacked me so offensively in this thread, and not had guts to disagree with such offense--if I ever hear you on radio, on Youtube...etc, I will turn off. You are shameful.
Are you listening to yourself ? u sound like a mad man..all i said was take it eazy and listen to others too ( for your own good so that you dont aleniate yourself)..and dont back yourself into a corner by continuing to insult the members here for not agreeing with you..
What do you do that makes you a real flamenco ? or know about how real flamencos think ? are you a beginner or not I am confused? serious stop avoiding the question...how long have you been playing and where can i hear or watch you ?
if everyone one here is not a real flamenco and you dont have any respect for anyone ?...why are you waisting your time here ? why would you wanna be here ? if you know it all obviously this is a waiste of your time
please dont insult me again..cause I had to take a long big breath before i replied to you..in order to remain polite...wasent my first instinct
There is or was a rock guitarist who became pretty well known. His style was very influenced by Hendrix. I remember reading an interview with him in which he said he knew nothing of how to play the guitar, but one day after a huge acid trip found he was able to play the way he now did. Boom. Overnight.
It's clear that we have all been wasting our time with lessons, videos, dance classes, workshops, endless picado exercises, amazing slowdowner sessions, and trips to Spain. A trip of a different sort is apparently all that's required.
Madge is looking for a guitarist? Dang, I need her number! I wonder if she'll eat some shrooms with me?
ROFL Do you ever do that thing where you laugh at something and you think you are over it, but then you remember and burst out laughing again? I been doing that for the last 10 minutes over that comment.

Really, duwen....think about it.
cheers,
Ron
If I remember right (please dont make me have to go and analyze all the replies. You seem to have a great memory about my 'i wanna guitar' post.....) I shared a very personal and powerful experience here with people I thought I could trust, because i assumed cause the music is deep so will the players be deep. Am I naive or what...? So I then get a very snide remark about mushrooms even though I had never even mentioned them, and then it is I who suffer disrespect. So get it right. Pay attention

Hi asisetoca
it is not just 5 mins wiki searching. I have been interested in the connection for years. And it is confirmed by the Gypsy flamenco terms for duende--whether they knew about sacred mushrooms or not, the terms they use denotes 'spirits of the earth' and deep communion with each other and the music.
For some reason many of you hear mock me when i say how I have had deep experience also, and that sacred mushrooms inspire these feelings awesomely. For that I am dissed. It is not ME irratating. I am celebrating the real spirit of flamenco. DEEP feeling.
I just cannot understand such closedmindedness from artists. I find it incredibly sad indeed------------------------and intriguing
But this is why term 'duende' is very interesting to me, because it shows a deep connection between people who you wouldn't expext. Like the Mazatecs and Andalucian gypsies.

Your take on this is very dull and uninformed. Please read my latest posts in this session thanks

people who more annoy me than the ones in the thick of it with attack are the apologetic ones who say nothing about their behaviour but then only see themselves get attacked.
Please, go for it, join your herd!
Have I ever said I can play flamenco? I can listen to it, thats all you need to know. But not yours.
Right ok Duwen there's only so much attempted degrading of one's artistic integrity one can take! I just wish your posts didn't annoy me so much that I find it impossible to ignore you! STOP IT IMMEDIATELY!
Firstly, however intruiguing you may find people's disinterest in the rubbish you are spouting I can assure you many are NOT intrigued by the content of your messages and are simply responding to your flagrant insults(which are a disgrace to flamenco, art and in some cases humanity!!) I must inform you that I have also been reading your posts in the off topic section and find your "treatise" on mental illness there to be a disgusting distortion of the truth which you appear to be using to justify drug taking(shame on you!).
Finally what do you mean by closedmindedness? do you mean an unwillingness to take drugs or a lack of desire to convert to paganism and live in a forest somewhere in a permanent state of stupor?
Unfortuantely as soon as you insult me and my art and fellow artists you I am going to become proudly closedminded to you and prompty disregard anything you may have to say(if that makes me miss out on any useful information that is regretable but i somehow doubt it would with you)

Oh dear. Only you have choice of your actions. If you feel drawn to me then maybe it is because of deeper stuff. I don't know, but don't blame me!

Humanity too? What am I now, the Devil? lol This is really absurd, and I don't know how to respond to your hysterical post. I have done years of research on the mental illness myth, and have a blog where I have devoted much of it too. What about yourself? Have you even read a book about what I have said?

A permanent state of stupor is what your in already dear

I just worry where all your hate comes from. I truly don't hate you and find your outburst sad but amusing......In a way it draws me to you, because I feel your monumental misunderstanding about whats been said etc
I shared a very personal and powerful experience here with people I thought I could trust, because i assumed cause the music is deep so will the players be deep. Am I naive or what...?
Yes
Nobody here wants you to "share" your druggie experiences or philosophies any more than they want someone to share their flu.
Go share it on some other Forum.
If you continue to post this rubbish and disrupt the Forum you'll be banned.
