Sr. Martins -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 17 2015 1:03:31)

Based on what I read, how about a submission period that encompasses the turn of the month? 27th to july 1st? It's two weeks from now.

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 17 2015 13:43:03)

Let's do that Rui.

johnnefastis -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 17 2015 15:37:54)

Yeah its a really nice composition John. What I love about it is its a real
rhythmic challenge and modern sounding but the left hand is actually ok and doesn't have
crazy stretches, so in theory it can be played cleanly :) .

I just can't get those 16th notes smooth at much over 100 but gonna keep trying.

Len are you gonna gonna update the challenge page... the moving deadline is making me
feel nervous.

Good luck recording everyone !

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 17 2015 20:21:26)

are you guys sure about recording without a backing track?
it will make judging more difficult and it sounds so empty without it...

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 17 2015 20:32:01)

I'm sure yours would sound balanced and clean and awesome with a backing track but most of us are ****e at recording and in other challenges it always sounded terrible to me.

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 17 2015 20:50:31)

i kinda agree ... and it has to be one rule for all ....
however ...
does the term 'backing track' include a metronome click? ... i been practicing with one recently and foolishly have became accustomed to it ...

even a tiny weeny quiet one? ,,,over there .........in the corner... not bothering anyone ...

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 17 2015 20:55:17)

sorry just read a back post i never noticed ,,,... are wee going on another 2 weeks now? .....pffff

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 17 2015 21:04:11)

You can put the metronome in your headphones as loud as you want.

Extra time, eso es bueno, another weekend pa' recorda le! lol

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 18 2015 9:12:03)

it doesn't have to be a compás track, palmas or just clicks would be fine too - but it sounds really empty without anything...please think about it :)

I believe the reason behind this is that there are people who have no clue about recording and balancing more than one track, which leads to submissions where the guitar is overpowered by what should be the background.

Also, it would make it too easy to spot maybe half of the participants just by their sound/mix.

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 18 2015 13:17:04)

maybe if ToddK entered :D
I don't think I'd recognize anyone else's playing by their mix. Either way, I'm done with recording, I made a naked version and one with a not too loud compás track behind it. The second one sounds a whole lot better of course. I'll submit whichever is decided.
I just think that the lack of rhythmic reference is not good for judging accuracy/technique/aire; plus it pretty much goes against the spirit of flamenco.

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 18 2015 17:39:41)

It wont sound empty jimi .. your bezazz , energy and natural flamenconess will fill in all the space and leave it bursting with fullness of sound, and Ole-ness...that is the thing that will carry it forward ... folk will speak of your entry for years to come ...
it wont need the soulless tick- tock of an autometer.....

....
...
...
so there

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 19 2015 19:19:16)

weird thing ...and a bit off topic , sorry .. I got a call the other day from someone who was at my last gig in the food festival thing , asking me to play in another place .....

So one thing does lead to another [:D][:D]

thing is , it turns out to be a Ladies club ..[:-]...not sure what to expect there ... I hope they dont think its like Magic Mike ...[:D][:D] wife thinks its really funny ...says ..you go boy ... and shes gonna get me a cowboy hat ,,, cos thats ALL i'll need ...[:(]

sorry back to learning falseta from John

Judging will last the entire week following!

No himming and hawing about the 4th of July weekend either 'cus I know most of you guys are from the other side of the pond!
Good luck to all!!

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! TIMELINE UPDATE (Jun. 26 2015 17:12:02)

hmmmmmmm

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 26 2015 20:02:36)

What did I just say!!!! Lol [:D]

FredGuitarraOle -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! TIMELINE UPDATE (Jun. 27 2015 19:24:18)

I probably won't be able to listen to the entries until the 12th of July... I'll try to do it as soon as possible, worst case scenario I'll post my judging on the 13th.

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! TIMELINE UPDATE (Jun. 28 2015 9:48:36)

i will try to record mine tomorrow .. monday is good for me .. , i hope ..
dont know how the upload thing works yet , but i suppose i will find out ...hope its not complicated due to my limited brain stuff ...

you know .....walk a bit ...stop .... chew gum a bit ....stop ,,walk a bit again .....cant do both at the same time ....

ToddK -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 28 2015 16:04:34)

I get the feeling we'll be here till September.

[:D]

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 28 2015 21:31:55)

thats OK Todd .. i'm only doing one note per week , in order to get it right ....

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 29 2015 1:06:10)

I am very curious, in challenges past I had an idea where I'd land and I was pretty accurate, this one I feel like I have no clue where I'll place. Think I'm as ready as I'm gunna be though, gunna record Monday or Tuesday night.
Rui is in charge of this uploading method, hopefully he's feeling better, if anything happens everyone can send to me and I just won't vote.

Dudnote -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 29 2015 21:01:26)

No more recording for me, I'm off travelling without my recorder. But I got about 40 takes with me to sift through to set apart the good, the bad and the ugly. No prizes for guessing for which of those three categories gets the most files [:D] Just so long as at least one is good enough to kick butt.

Sr. Martins -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 29 2015 21:43:07)

Whether I submit or not, I'll be taking care of the uploading method.

You can count on that.

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 29 2015 22:43:37)

Thank you sir!

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 30 2015 8:35:24)

ok ...recording done .....again.....

i dont have to play it anymore ...[:D]

its ok i suppose ... the string section in the second movement was good .. brass and wind section a bit loud toward the finale and the fireworks kinda drowned them out a bit, you know ...I do think John will approve of the timpani counterpart ..
lets just see ...

¿ So what happens now ?

Well, it's no over till the fat lady sings. Did you find one to join in for the crescendo?
