We're gunna go one way or the other, let's get a little closer and we'll choose to go up a bit or back a bit.

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 1 2015 13:34:43)

i see the shop is closed now ... i been working on it ,,, and working on it ......and thinking about it and doing a lot of stuff............

and now ........finally ....i have come up with my nickname for entering the challenge...

suppose i should look at the actual playing of it now ....

Dudnote -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 2 2015 2:21:47)

Anyone apart from JG tried recording themselves? All my recordings so far suck eggs!!! [:'(][:'(]

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 2 2015 12:52:35)

Yup, feel like I was better at it a few days after I learned it :/

johnnefastis -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 2 2015 17:35:49)

Ha I feel your pain. I recorded it at a level i felt ok with at 60 bpm gonna try tonight at 80.
I feel like I have hit a plateau with it. It's been teally fun to learn though.
Cheers

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 3 2015 19:04:38)

whoa ... sorry guys been off line ... we had a storm and lines were down for 2 days ....no internet ....got the shakes ... kids couldnt get on Xbox live .....

anyway, all better now ...

Strange point of interest surrounding John and this falseta.....and recording it ...

The weekend just past , was a bank holiday here, and i went with the kids camping .. kind of , maybe call it Glamping , in a permanently set up really big tent with a little stove in it and carpets and stuff .
There is a big communal kitchen and its all solar powered lights and heating and very green energy type of thing ...

Anyway , this was on the west coast of Ireland in a county called Clare, but it also happens that the national T.V. (R.T.E.)station was filming there as well..
They were filming parts for a 3 part series about a thing called the WILD ATLANTIC WAY .....ok

Anyway, again .... on this site there is an enormous GeoDome structure that has the strangest echos and reflections ive heard for a while , Like you can speak and , if your standing in the right place it sounds like your own voice is coming from behind you ,,and other such bizarre effects .

So since I had a guitar with me (of course) I thought, when it was not in use i would see how flamenco sounded in different areas ...and i went to experiment.
About this point that T.V. crew came in and of course the sound man, was interested in the acoustics of the dome as well ... so they said " just play some stuff and we'll film it and record it '' ..........'''what!!''

So I did ...

Of course one of the main things I've been playing recently to get it right was Johns Falseta for the challenge ....and i may have 'accidentally' played it ... and got it recorded in high quality by the R.T.E . Mobile out n about unit...

Hence, it is actually possible that , since John lives in the same country as me and gets the same T.V. Channels ... he may, one day see a programme about stuff from the west coast , and hear his own falseta coming back at him .....oops ...

not sure if i could use it for my entry .. it seems a bit ..over the top technology , recorded for an entry ....

gotta say it came out pretty good though .....
Funny what twists and turns life chucks out .....If I had have actually went to the studio and said ' can you record this for me? ' .. ....
well..we all know what the answer would have been ... and yet if your in the right place at the right time ...

They also filmed my kids (twins) playing inside of a giant climbing frame that is inside of a tree in a wood ....more chance of that clip being shown if truth be told ....

phew ....

johnnefastis -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 4 2015 21:58:53)

Ha cool story Kiko. Now I just wanna know rough bmp ?

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 4 2015 22:41:27)

i'm afraid thats classified information under Government Security Classifications Policy ...

however .. I am at liberty to say that i do not really work like that , i just pick a speed in my head that I think it will work at and that i am comfortable playing it at , getting those 2 things together is the only way to go ...

Sometimes I play it fast and it just sounds wrong .. not mistakes ,, just wrong ,,..too slow sounds wrong as well though ... i wouldnt worry about speed really, just sound , thats what will get you through ,,,

thats enough

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 4 2015 22:58:57)

That is a nifty story! Seems like you have lots of fun out there.
I gotta go to Ireland, all my grandparents are from there, Cork & Galway, have some sort of cousin out in Galway I've communicated with a few times. I'd love to just shake the hustle and bustle and post up on his farm for a few months......

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 5 2015 18:00:40)

its ok but i am deep in the country side ...all cows and low tech ...

a keyboard here is a piece of wood with hooks on to hang your keys on
Mainframe ...holds the roof of your shed up
Software ...woolly jacket or duffle coat
mouse ........mouse (lit.)

Guinness is on me if you turn up here ....deal ?

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 6 2015 0:04:56)

Sounds like a deal to me! If your ever in LA I'll treat you to some micro-brew. [:D]

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 6 2015 19:12:23)

Ok ... sounds good ...not sure what a micro brew is ?//sounds like i would need a lot of it ...

...in order to have a proper fight ..I mean ....then get tracked down by Dog the bounty hunter , arrested by T.J hooker and end up on Judge Judy ....

now thats an L.A. night out ....[8D]

Dudnote -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 13 2015 20:52:40)

Talking of good nights out, a leaving party last Saturday for a retiring friend her with rum, red wine, champagne, good food, the beautiful Anders 123 and a Polish classically trained violinist knocking out the tunes, finishing at 3:30 in the monring. Good times!! But boy, was that one hell of a hangover or what. Day out with family in a botanical garden, siesta on every bench, or anything flat and in the shade. Hangover rolls into day 2, head still hurts like hell, at little pains start spinning off in various joints, temperatures up at the moon, can hardly walk. Is that a hangover of dengue fever you got there Dudnote? 7 days later, I still don't know if I'm strong enough to get a John Walsh falsetta at 50 bpm out of 123. Think I might just take her to bed and hug her instead. In the recovery phase now, going to go get myself a Ti Punch to help me recover just that little bit more. Salud! Here's to your health guys!

FredGuitarraOle -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 14 2015 2:44:33)

I recorded my entry exactly 3 weeks ago. Not happy with it, some mistakes here and there, the compás is a bit shaky and struggled a lot on the second part. I've been busy with exams since then so I haven't been playing much. I was counting on recording it again but I failed one of my exams and have to do it again this Friday. So it looks like I'm going to submit what I already have. I hate recording anyways, that sh*t is nerve racking.

Sr. Martins -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 14 2015 13:32:29)

Been having some health issues, haven't played any guitar for the past 2 weeks and now that Iam better I have to study for my exam too... it's tuesday, there's still time [:D]

Don't worry Fred, the deadline will be extended, that was already planed. We haven't decided yet on a new one. An extra week (28th), would that be enough for you? How about the other participants?

FredGuitarraOle -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 15 2015 11:18:57)

Thanks but don't change the deadline because of me. I also have exams starting at the end of next week, I could only try to record again if I had this week free. I'll submit what I already have, it's fine. It's not that bad, the falseta itself could be a lot better but I'm quite happy with my sound.

Dudnote -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 15 2015 12:00:04)

I'm all up for being relaxed about this deadline [:D] For one it would be great to hear recordings from everyone that they are actually proud of and not just recordings that pass their acceptable upload test.

Good luck to everyone who is finding there is stuff other than aire and technique holding them back here. I'll raise a drink to your health and exam success once it's no longer too early to start on the rum.

For those with exams, when would they all be finished?

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 15 2015 13:27:34)

We're changing the deadline, one more week.
We got some contracts signed at work that I didn't think we'd get signed so now I'm doing 60+ hour work weeks.
Get to it though folks! [:D]

Sr. Martins -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 15 2015 14:27:21)

Glad to see we have people who know at least half of it, play it at half speed and people who are half satisfied with what they did. [:D]

Let's leave it open for discussion till the end of the week.

If someone needs to submit it before the end of the month, send me a pm.

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 15 2015 17:12:56)

ok .. i recorded mine today ,,,,Monday is good for recording ...
if i can make it better i will re record next monday ,,, when is the final dates now ?

can you re-explain the judging bit 'due to my extremely dim , im not sure if i get it ...

use small words and type slowly ...
i erase my post on the other page and enter judging ,, but i judge my own? no ..yes..

then i erase my own judging of my own playing ... and subtract the points i suppose ..
after john has voted ?
is the voting then not open to other foro members...?

Sr. Martins -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 15 2015 20:47:25)

Right now we just have to focus on getting something recorded, the deadline is open for discussion now (since we're near the original one) and will be during this week. You can count on at least one week added.

Yes, you judge your own.

Voting that counts to find the winner is only from participants + John.

JohnWalshGuitar -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 16 2015 19:26:32)

So how did you fellas find the falseta in the end?
Did you enjoy playing it etc?

ToddK -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 16 2015 19:28:31)

One of my fave Solea falsetas ever John, seriously man, great stuff!

Thanks again for sharing it with us! Ole'

TK

JohnWalshGuitar -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 16 2015 19:32:33)

Thank you so much Todd. That means a lot coming from you maestro. Really glad you enjoyed it!!

El Kiko -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 16 2015 20:43:10)

Interesting falseta ... got to say it didnt fit too well for me, very smooth and controlled .. I'm mush more of a wild banging about .. Ole ...and stampin your feet ... playin drunk in bars kinda guy .....[;)]

so it made a nice change .... i dont think I ll get too far in the challenge , but its the discipline needed to get into it and sort it out that is where i learn things

its pretty cool falseta .. not sure if i could tie it into anything else later maybe ...

Looking forward to hearing how all the guys did with it ...not looking forward to marking ,,,i think it may be difficult to choose why one good player get a differnt mark from another good player ....

anyway.........not long now ... slight extension .. causing my self doubts to ..re-record..........

Leñador -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 16 2015 21:12:10)

I loved it, pulled me out of my comfort zone just enough to really help me. Also, gave me some perspective on what can be done with what beats. There's great little pieces of it that can just be sprinkled into my normal compas playing as embellishments.

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 16 2015 21:29:04)

It's a great falseta - I'm really tempted to change a tiny bit here and there because it'd fit my technique better, but because the task is to copy you, I'll try to get those bits under my fingers. To play it as cleanly as you do at that speed is a challenge indeed. 140-ish goes fine, but 150 is a bit too much. I'll probably go even slower because I just can't play as well when recording. Hopefully I can do that within the next two days because I'll be traveling after that. I don't know how changing the deadline will affect uploading and judging, but I'll be in Venice between 24-29th without access to my files.

Btw, all the info regarding the challenge should be in the very first post!

my apologies, I was looking in this thread [:D]

Dudnote -> RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Challenge!!! (Jun. 16 2015 23:59:24)

Love the falsetta. It's been a good challenge, especially getting some of the ligado timing smooth and even. Have recorded at 100, 111 and 123, not ready to record faster than that yet.
