new PdL guitar arrived...

Well, it arrived this afternoon. First impressions? Wow! It really is an amazing guitar. And, Ron, it is twice as loud as the Burguet, and it will certainly do for accompaniment as well as solo playing. To be honest, I was quite prepared to send it back if I didn't feel it was either right for me or a wonderful instrument. It is both.

It is number 83 of the projected 200, and is dated 2004 - brand new, arrived at the shop last week. It has the definitive blanca sound, incredible bite. After 15 minutes of playing, I tried my Burguet again. The Burguet is a fine guitar, but this is another thing altogether. Some might find the 66cm string length to be too long, and indeed, the guitar is big and heavy (compared to some flamencos), but as I am 6'3'' and have hands to match - fits like a glove. Besides, it only takes a capo to knock a centimetre off the length. The action seems a little high compared to Ron's Bernal and Jim's Conde, and maybe one day I'll experiment with a lower bridge/nut, but for the moment I'll leave it as is.

And, of course, it is signed in ink by The Man.

I'm gald you love your Bernal, Ron, and you will draw a better sound out of it than I will out of this PdL. But that has nothing to do with the guitars - it has a lot to do with your being a fantastic flamenco guitarist. We are both happy!

Rob,
Sounds good man!
Can't wait to try it!
The reason why I said what I did before is that I thought you were falling into the trap that most of us have at one time or another and reckoned what we needed most was a "decent" guitar to improve things a bit, rather than the one we were playing and a lot of the time we let desire override common sense and budget.
You played the Burguet well, it sounded great.
Your long experience in music comes through and I was very impressed.
You played a magic chord, so full of aire during that Soleares session that I had to look to see what it was.
It was only a standard E major!
That's what it's about though!
That's what thrills me about this stuff!
The "spin" you personally put on your own playing, even "ordinary" chords is what this stuff's about.
I can see you are going to keep it, but well, if the expensive Classical is of no use to you other than an expensive "door stop", then you've got yourself a bargain there.
The wheels seems to be spinning up for you at the moment Rob.
You've found a dance class, two cajon players, a Croatian dreamboat and a great guitar, all in the space of six weeks or so.
If I were you I'd put £20 on an outsider on the 3.30 at Kempton Park!

LOL!

Ron

Thanks Ron! I'd love to hear you play this guitar. Jim too. Hope we all get together in the near future.

I've only bet on a horse once: West End Tip to win the National about 25 years ago. In a drunken stupor I put all of my giro on it. Won over a thousand pounds! Have never gambled since!!!!!

Hey! Rob,

You've found a nice guitar by the sounds of it and like Ron, I'm looking forward to having a shot.
It's a funny thing really but everyone takes a leap up the ladder when they find a nice instrument to play, either in their technique or creative composition. So it's great news to read about your PdL.
I can't remember if you said before, but where did you find it?

Cheers
Jim.

I got it from www.classicalguitar.co.uk (near Birmingham). The guy who runs it is called Brian Whitehouse - a very nice guy. They have a few pictures of the Paco 1A Negra on their website but it is already sold. My blanca was sent to me before they had time to advertise it. Some Condes for sale also. The web prices are high and can be negotiated downwards (don't quote me on it). For instance, the Paco 1A negra is £3995, but you could probably knock a grand off of that.

As for leaping ladders...we'll see...
