Met another Foro member!
Just come back from a really great evening out. Last week I happened to meet a flamenco guitar performer and teacher, Rafael. Really nice guy, great musician too. He said he was running a course this week and his students were playing tonight, so I went along to play palmas and dance a little. On the course was Foro member Jenny. It was so nice to meet someone from the Foro And great to meet some other guys who also like flamenco - it's a bit lonely in my little sleepy town.
I did dance a bit of bulerias, tangos and rumbas. Dave took a video of them and I was going to put the tangos on youtube to share with you guys, but it's just over the size limit and I don't have the software to edit it. We're gonna get something to edit videos so we can share stuff with friends.
Anyway you guys, it is so great to meet in person. Let's do more of it!!
Hahaha! This is the only bit of video from tonight that is small enough to upload onto youtube - unfortunately it's hardly worth it because it lasts exactly one second! But if you pause it as soon as it starts playing it looks like a still photo! Just to prove I wasn't fibbing about tonight.
Hey Flo, even you could download this on your 56K connection! This is a special for everyone who doesn't have broadband. So don't say I don't share with you guys.
Oh dear, sorry guys. Must have had more wine tonight than I realised.
Last night was fun, though my first ever outing in public with a guitar, so quite nerve-racking. It was good to meet you, Ailsa, and nice to have someone in the audience who could clap along to a siguiriya properly! Kind of relieved the video's not up yet though as I really lost it in the bulería.
Val, it was in sunny Oxford, and we've just finished a week's guitar course. We're talking about meeting up maybe monthly to jam (do you do that in flamenco? Am new to all this and an ex jazz/funk drummer so probably have all the lingo wrong...) so will keep you informed! It'll be nice to have a scene going here,
Jenny

Try: "Juan Martin es El Rey!"
Thanks... Your advice is valuable.. I've seen some posts about him on here and will stay well out for the time being I think! Especially as I'm ashamed to say I haven't even learnt La Feria yet...
And the group of us who are going to meet up and jam are all pretty much beginners - should be fun but god knows how it'll sound! Eventually it'd be great to meet informally and accompany dancers (and singers, but they seem thinner on the ground) too.
And thanks for being all welcomey to me - it's nice not being a lurker any more!
