Advice needed on presenting a guitar

I told a rising international star that I would like to give him a guitar if/when he comes to a concert hall in my neck of the woods and he graciously replied that he would accept it. Now I'm wondering how to get a guitar into a concert--do I buy a seat for it? And how to get backstage at the end. Does anyone have experience doing this?

I've never presented one is my guitars to a rising star at a concert.... im not sure they would want one of mine.....

However, this nasty be a silly suggestion...
I've taken my guitar to concerts on several occasions. And left in the cloakroom.

Could you do this? Then leave a few mins before the end to beat the rush, get the guitar and head back stage.

Unless of course, youre wondering how to gain back stage access??

I guess that's just a series of conversations and favours..

Or hang about the stage door like a regular ol fan??

Thanks, Stu. I didn't even know that there are cloak rooms. (I rarely go to live concerts because applause hurts my ears.)

I know the feeling, I've suffered with that in recent years in my left ear....but now it's worse... I lost about 80% hearing in that ear....so no more pain from noise.... but no sound either!

and concerts now sound a bit of an acoustic mess. same with playng for dance classes!

yeah spill the beans! classical or flamenco player?

how do you select a guitar to present on a whim like that? did you have to plan and make the thing specifically? or do you choose one from stock lying around? (Im not sure thats even a thing for an established top pro luthier to have guitars lying around?)

You need to make arrangements to get it to him BEFORE the show somehow. Otherwise you probably need to keep it in your car until the show is over and meet the guy afterward. Or talk to the security people when you arrive, have them check it out and leave it with them until after the show. Depends on the type of venue.

When I took my guitar to get signed by Paul Gilbert I purchased a meet and great vip ticket. It turns out I did not have to do that because I had personal contact with the drummer who invited me to the tour bus, but I did the vip thing to be safe and respectful. Or contact the venue long before and get your name on a list or something in advance.

I was holding back because I was afraid everyone would present him with a guitar first. But what the hell: See https://www.instagram.com/shilong.fan

Sorry about your hearing loss, Stu.

Thanks for the info, Ricardo.

Is it going to be a classical guitar or a flamenco guitar?

Shilong has crazy skills but he started playing flamenco maybe only 3 years before? Really impressive

I have exactly the same, I think it's one of my sphenoidal sinuses causing it though after I had a brain scan. It can be useful though if your partner snores sometimes :D

I'm sorry you have that, Silddx.

While we're on it, I also have tinnitus. It started in a strange way. I was in line for the cashier in a grocery store a few years ago. There were these two huge guys who were obviously friends and having a conversation. One was a few people ahead of me and one was right behind me. Thing is, the one behind me, who was dressed in all black leathers and a motorcycle helmet, was shouting his end of the conversation through me to the other guy. I wanted to tap him on the shoulder and tell him he was being loud, but he was around 7 feet tall and I couldn't reach his shoulder and he couldn't hear me when I turned around and spoke. The noise was so loud that I became dizzy and almost fell over when I got to the cashier. Then I had an ear ache for three days, and then the tinnitus started. Now I always carry earplugs. But it is awkward to put them in and out at a concert.

I watched that Taranta video a few weeks ago and my first thought was "why the hell is he playing such a cheap guitar"? Not that cheap guitars are necessarily bad but...I'm glad you're going to give him one of yours, Ethan
(of course he probably had a sponsorship from them)

https://goaxil.com/products/x30i-earplugs

They're about twenty-four bucks. I had similar ones in the past. They're very practical and they work well. They're basically ear plugs with an on/off switch, so you don't have to keep putting them in and taking them back out. They remain in your ears throughout the concert. When you want quiet, you just press the button and they're "on". When you want to listen, you press the button and they're "off".

Thanks for your comment Andy. I have seen him playing several different guitars, though. I probably won't be the first to give him a good one. I haven't decided whether it should be a flamenca (blanca, negra, cedar, spruce) or a classical.

And thanks rombsix for the info about those earplugs. They might be a game changer for me.
