Excited for this trip and to meet you folks, but with my low shoulder mobility guitar playing is proving to be a struggle. Can manage a few minutes in the traditional flamenco position, and classical guitar position is almost manageable, so maybe I should sign up for the cante class!
Flying into Jerez on 12th, out from Seville on the 19th. Los Helechos booked up until the 17th then whatever cheap hotel I can find for the last 2 nights.
Since we are discussing injuries that prevent us playing/enjoying the guitar.
I have been struggling with an ear issue for past 18 months and i seem to have finally succumbed to hearing loss in my left ear. been treated for it but no repsonse as yet.
My right ear is fine but its defo affecting my hearing in crowded places, concerts etc. Ill still be able to enjoy Sanlucar but I know it will be a less rich experience than if i had 2 good ears!
Playing is somewhat less fulfilling. I cant quite explain it...its just missing the depth of sound that youd get with 2 good ears. no stereo!
Perhaps we can have a little corner of the room during each fiesta, show etc where all the broken folk can hang out and drown their sorrows! ill see ya there ddias!
Sorry to hear about your ear issues… i have tinnitus and hyperacuity and have to wear ear protection at concerts. Went to too many thumping bass heavy raves over the past decades it seems. I enjoy softer more acoustic performances where i don’t have to wear ear protection. Went to see Radiohead last autumn and fell asleep as it sounded dull to my ears… in fair, they were pretty dull anyway!
What treatment did you try stu? Acupuncture seemed to help for me, this was about 6 years ago though.

There's a good chance I was stood next to you in front of a speaker or two! and i often thought the dudes at raves with ear plugs were a bit weird....think they were probably the smart ones!
Ive has 3 steroid jabs into the eardrum. but no joy. doing another mri scan then possbily hearing aids....but probably gnna look into non mainstream remedies soonish. I struggle in places with cacophony of sounds. hoping the fiestas in sanlucar are managebale and enjoyable and not ruined by my lame ear.
looking forward to this trip too! cant wait.
I will be in seville from 10th to 12th.chillin then heading to sanlucar for welcome do on the 13th. meeting a gang in seville may be more tricky now as I have family in tow.!
I'll be arrivng in Sanlucar on sunday afternoon and once in my accom ill be heading straight to the plaza to Balbinos for bowl of salmorejo, a beer and soak up some vibes. ..... little meet up in the plaza? Harry I will recognise you and ddias...but beno... drop me a DM and we can all hook up!
Anyone heard who might be playing this year in the Tuesday eve concert? I think it was Dani de moron last year.
Have any of you guys been to Luis Postigo's house in Sevilla? I have 3 nights in Sevilla before the course, any recommendations for flamenco places/shows I should visit while there?
Thanks...it's pretty cool to hear our Rito y geografia guy interviewing about the curso I have attended for so many years. One of the coolest things about the DVD reissue of the Rito series was the Caracol episode intro there is an awkward silence on the original as they scan over Caracol's property where the juerga takes place, and someone filled that in with Gerardo's tremolo from his Granaina.
He says nothing about Alejandro Hurtado so I guess that plan fell through. Alvaro Martinete concert Tuesday and Diego del Morao Thursday.
See ye all on sunday evening...taking the youngfella to see the dino exhibit the day we arrive i saw it two years ago in the cosmo caixa science musuem in barcelona. glad im getting to take the youngfella to see it.
