New soleá falseta collection

Hi everyone,

First off, a great big thank you to those of you who’ve made a donation through my website. Your generosity is why it’s still online.

I’ve completed a new soleares falseta collection and am here to say that it’s now available. This time around, the material consists of my own falsetas and those of others (from Ramón Montoya to Vicente Amigo), most of which I’ve changed to suit my preferences.

I’ve had some problems trying to post here in recent years. I’d set up a new account and it would very quickly be blocked, and Simon hasn’t responded to any of my messages in recent years. If this message isn’t deleted, I’ll provide more information on the new falseta collection, answer any questions you might have and catch up with you all.

I’ve also added a small change to most of the pages of my website: vertical spacing of the texts. I think it looks much better, and I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me years ago (or why nobody pointed it out). It’ll take a lot of work to add that change to some of the pages that have many letras (siguriya and soleá classification pages, mostly), but I’ll be looking into it between now and 2024.

Here’s a link to read more about the new falseta collection:

Hi Mark,

It's working fine for me. I've just double-checked, and the URL is right.

Maybe your browser is automatically changing "http" to "https"? That happened to me a few times several years ago.

Email me if the problem continues.

Hi Ramzi, thanks for your warm welcome!

After my second post yesterday, I couldn't access private messages or even post to the forum, but it looks like it was a temporary issue. I've responded twice to Mark's PM, but my account shows no outgoing private messages. Weird.

ETA (edited to add): My bad, it was an account setting.

Hey Norman!
Yeah welcome back. I hope you're well. nice to see you back. You may not remember but we hung out for a night or 2 in Jerez back in....2012? maybe. With Henry from the foro and I think David Serva joined us for a drink or two too. Was my first visit to Jerez and the small interctions I shared with many people really made that trip memorable! (probably pretty insignificant fro thsoe folk I met along the way haha)

Glad to see you posting and thanks for the link to your updated site.
link works fine for me. I will explore properly later.

cheers

oh Ramzi, youre still here too! thats cool! Hi man!

Hey Stu,

Likewise! Yeah, I remember that. I accompanied you downhill to that scary el Chicle neighborhood so you could have classes with Jesús el Guardia or maybe Periquín. Afterward, I said I was going to hang out there and let you go back on your own, which you weren’t thrilled to hear, and rightly so. I knew el Chicle wasn’t actually dangerous. I often go there to get my hair cut and to buy some really good bread. The streets are filthy and many people who live there are oddly unfriendly, but things aren’t nearly as bad as they look. A lot of jerezanos are afraid to go there. When asking strangers for directions, I’ve been told to avoid it at all costs, but I think it’s an unfair reputation that was fairly earned 20 years ago.

So, you’re still playing, then?

Yes, when I try to access the site http://canteytoque.es my browser [chrome] is automatically adding an s to the http making it https, and https://canteytoque.es doesn't exist.

I have tried searching with variously worded questions like "how to stop chrome automatically changing http to https" etc. but either I try to follow the suggestions and they make no difference, or the suggestions say click here and select this from the list of options and I don't have this on my list of options, or I just don't understand any of it.

Anyone got any suggestions how to fix this please?

Mark,

Not sure exactly but you need to turn off something called SSL or TLS
Not sure how to do this or if it’s posable on your web browser.

Just dig around and see I suppose.

If you want to read about SSL :

Norman,
Can’t tell you how many hours I’ve spent late at night poking around your site reading the music and listening to the recordings etc.

I’ll never be much of a player, I joke that best I can do is Fakmenco ;)

So this new batch of falsetas you are selling, how is the material distributed? Files via email or a disc or?

Thanx,

HR

Can you cut and paste the address, then remove the s manually? I figure once you have the site opened, you can bookmark it so that if you close all your windows and open a new session your bookmarked window should open it no problem. I just tried Chrome and there was no problem just clicking the link here. Either you have old or updated version, compared to mine. Anyway if you keep opening a “no page found” window, even with the bookmark, maybe you can highlight as if to cut and paste and again delete the s by hand each time? I just tried it with your “bad link” and it took like 1 second.

tried that, it keeps adding the s back in...

must be some setting I have, no idea what... maybe an anti-virus/security protection setting, or something I have managed to click or unclick in browser settings...

So you either remove the s or type the correct link by hand fully, and when you click “Enter” a magic “s” appears? Sort of like suggested words that you did not mean to type? It could be something like that, like type the correct thing and see if “s” is added as suggestion that you can choose NO via the X. If not, why not use a different browser?

RE: New soleá falseta collection (in reply to Norman Paul Kliman

Mark: I had a brief look online and saw that there’s been talk in recent years of a shift away from http in favor of https. I saw something about Chrome no longer supporting http, but Chrome is my browser, I’ve updated it recently and I haven’t had that problem for a long time now. Assuming that what I read is true and that I’ve interpreted it correctly, it seems unlikely that the problem has to do with not keeping your browser updated, although that’s the first thing I’d look at, because updating it can only be a good thing, I guess. I’m no expert, so don’t take my word for it. I see you haven’t mentioned what browser you’re using. If you’d rather not say, you could try looking for a forum that deals with your browser’s issues and ask there, or some kind of consultation/troubleshooting service provided by your browser.

HR: Thanks for saying that, and I’m glad you’re enjoying the website. If you’re playing is in compás, it’s flamenco. It’s the foundation, the walls and the roof of your house. How you paint the outside and decorate the inside is another matter (and nobody’s business but your own, but you might want to look at your neighbors’ houses from time to time to get some ideas). I’m distributing the new collection as email attachments. The scores are in one PDF and the audios are MP3s in two zipped folders. Sending it all in two messages, the total attachment size of each is less than 15 megs. I had planned on recording video, but the file sizes would be too big and I’m too ugly.

Everyone: I’ve just uploaded updated versions of the siguiriya and soleá pages. Thought it was going to be much more work. I mentioned “vertical spacing” in my first post. It means the spacing between lines of text. I think the pages look much better now (less cramped). If anyone has any suggestions for further improvement, feel free to let me know.

Try using a different browser? I’m using Firefox, and it works fine for me.

Mark, there’s a relevant setting in Chrome, if that’s what you’re using.

Find the settings, click on “Privacy and security,” scroll down and click on “Security.” Scroll down and you should see several options under “Advanced set-up.” Make sure “Always use secure connections” is disabled.

The names of the settings and options are in Spanish on my computer and may be different in English.

Same thing applies to Firefox as well, possibly other browsers. The issue is solely due to a [default] setting like that in the browser Mark uses.

In Firefox, make sure it looks like this:

Images are resized automatically to a maximum width of 800px

Hi again,

I’ve uploaded to my website almost half of the audios of the new falseta collection, along with brief descriptions of each. You can click on the links and listen to the falsetas. Hope you like them!
