Tuners on conde

Hi everyone,
Totally new here and had a question. I purchased a concert model conde with gotoh tuners but I would I like to change the tuners to the traditional ones. Is this not a good idea ? The guitar cost around 5400 Euros and don’t know if this is worth it. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

I like and use Gotoh tuners so I don’t understand the problem? Traditional tuners means what to you? Fustero? Maybe too expensive now a days? Keep in mind tuners need to be changed due to entropy and wear. I find two tap plate changes necessitate the change of tuners.

Thanks Ricardo. Yeah you are right. The only significance to me with those old pegs, it’s just I love the way it looks. Not a reason to get rid of the gotoh tuners, and in addition, those old tuners are more difficult to tune.

Gotoh make some of the best tuners and other stuff available, or so a luthier and a guitar tech told me. I have never had a problem with any Gotoh parts I have ever owned. I like Hipshot too but they make nothing for classical guitar AFAIK.

The Gotoh tuners are probably the best on the market for the price range- and probably, or arguably more practical than any of the top expensive brands.

I strongly recommend the new Aluminum plate series if weight is a problem. They are tough as ( iron) nails and are 96 grams per set.

My car is barely 5 years old, and driving up to the super market all I can think is “oh God, this machine falling to pieces gradually!!”.

. With guitars, at LEAST it is only the strings, and much later the Golpeadores and tuners….and the frets…and nut and bone saddle…and tie block…and the neck is slowly twisting….wood expanding and contracting….breaking down at the cellular level….proton decaying…

So you want to go from mechanical tuners with slots in the head of the guitar, to pegs? It can be done; I have seen it done. It is a delicate operation: the slots have to be filled in with well-fitted wood, as do the holes in the sides of the head. This patching can be hidden with veneers glued over the front, back, and sides of the head. Then pegs have to be fitted. It's a big job. And I would recommend mechanical pegs such as Pegheds that look like traditional wooden pegs but work much better. Or you could go with wooden pegs. You would have to find a skilled luthier to do the work. Whether it is worth it is entirely up to you.

It's a big job, and you might not like wooden pegs, as not for everybody.

I've not converted from a routed classical headstock to a flamenco one, (I think SF has) but I've had to plug old peg holes, reposition, add new veneers, and then drill and ream for wooden pegs, before polishing and that was a lot of work. I can imagine a pro shop charging you a pretty penny for a full conversion.

Oh I didn't even think that it was a change to friction pegs. Sounds like a bad idea to me from a financial POV, both the cost of the work and the probable devaluing of the Conde.

These days I am noticing old guitars, made by signifiant makers, having had the wooden pegs converted to mechanical pegs. In this case how difficult is it to convert back to wooden pegs?

For my personal aesthetic sensibilities the option of converting an old guitar with non-working wooden pegs to mechanical pegs is better than going to machine tuners.
E.g. This Juan Morao family guitar got converted from pegs to standard machine tuners before mechanical pegs were a thing.
