I’ve been switching between playing PDL style left leg crossed over the righ and DDG old school with the lower bought resting on the left thigh both feet flat on the ground, @constrctordeguitars plays this way well. Mostly to keep my body from being angry from being in one position for too long. Being an old school DDG fan boy I’m thinking a thigh shaped cutout on the lower bought lower corner could be workable, fit in a normal case too.

I prefer my flamenco guitar spicy,
doesn't have to be fast,
should have some meat on the bones,
can be raw or well done,
as long as it doesn't sound like it's turning green on an elevator floor.

I like the slit, it really works to give sense to the form. I like the dynamic of grain angles on the different pieces of wood.

This one actually exists. The idea is to use the wider section and not have to use a footstool, and to have an expanded fretboard:

Guitar supports are ridiculous things, as is the classical guitar posture, foot stools etc etc.

What we have in reality, is a determination to keep the existing shape of the classical guitar, that clearly isn't suitable for the style of which it's employed in. If it was, there would be no need for crazy contraptions.

Now I'm not saying my photoshop effort is the perfect solution, but unless builders are prepared to look at the shape of the guitar, and take a risk with a prototype, nothing will change. We'll still see insanity in the form of rests and bad backs.

Mostly I play slumped back in my office chair, and hold the guitar very lazily, but it works for me. If I were to record something, or perform though, I'd have to sit up straight, and play in a very uncomfortable playing position. Who needs that?

I’m guessing this dead horse had been flogged skinless at this stage but had PDL ever directly mention the how and why of switching from the old school headstock up feet flat on the floor to the left crossed over the right position?

Like a few have mentioned upthread, it’s good to switch it up and it’s how I’ve been doing it after two years of playing on my back while I healed up from my moose crush-O-rama.

And don’t think I’m crazy, I’m digging the old way, even thinking I might make that back plate cutout I’ve mentioned upthread on one of my early firewood guitars ;) Think quarter moon cutout of the back plate lower bought across to zero on the top so it lays across my right thigh headstock up like DDG.

Blue tape is just a rough aproxamation:

Edit: blue tape should be clocked around about 3-5 inches toward the bottom of the guitar.
