RE: chicuelo new solo album.. (in reply to duende)
I'm counting the days when I can buy the new album. I hope their are a few nice and pure flamenco tracks on it. I m not fond of other instruments excepts cajon and palmas. :-) but either way I'll buy his album.

Well, Ive had it for a couple of days now. And being big chicuelo fan im a little disappointed. Mainly because there is a lot of material ive already heard. Otherwise it is a great album. I can't blame him for the fact that ive heard a lot of the material already.
tangos - same as the one on duquende's last album more or less and Quali
bulerias - heard all of these falsetas from youtube vids
bulerias 2 - part of a baile section of a granaina/buleria he does/did in a dc concert. very cool though
granaina - a hash of material from Quali and live concert granaina/buleria
Otherwise, there is still a lot of new material on the cd that we havn't heard. I like the solea por bulerias the best. Not blown away, but a good album, and a long wait for it.

just came across this, no idea how long it's been out, checked if anyone had posted already, nothing came up but thought i'd add the latest "new solo album" to this old thread.

so i see.... I don't understand how search works, but "chicuelo" didn't bring that up, didn't bring up anything after 2010 in fact. I tried with a capital "C" too....

You can use google to search the foro. For example, just enter whatever term proceeded by site:foroflamenco.com into the google search box. For example: chicuelo new album site:foroflamenco.com. You can even make a little shortcut and bookmark just the site:foroflamenco part for whenever you want to search the foro. That’s what I do.

Your right. Strangely it brought up the thread yesterday but I just tried again and it didn’t. Well at any rate it’s another way to search. There are definitely a lot of great old threads to read through

I am working on a variation of the simple ideas at the beginning of Morena. I have a habit of sticking to rhythm until the dancers ask for a falseta but I want to become more melodic outside of the falsetas in some areas
What? Chicuelo is still around he and Marco Mezquida did a couple nice songs together, I think.
Would you agree that he still has one of the best sound of attack on the guitar amongst the top players? Maybe it’s his nails, but I always thought he had/has a very well rounded, full bodied sound that he is able to produce from his guitars. Or maybe it’s just his Conde as Ricardo would say

Chicuelo was touring China with Marco Mezquida several days ago.
This time he focused on the jazz. But I still think he is one of the greatest flamenco guitarists. His transitions between accompaniment and solo are very silky, and his tone is very unique, he uses his Conde Atocha.

It is no more “jazz” than what Arturo Pavon and Melchor did with Caracol, or instrumental versions like Paco and Chick Corea, Nuñez with Danilo Perez, and Tomatito with Michele Camilo. The same concept, flamenco mixed with some Latin material played on piano. Playing tango by Piazzolla or Bulerías with a pianist has zero point zero to do with jazz. They aren’t really even improvising changes much, it is all worked out falsetas based on Palos, lots of rhythmic strumming. Agreed that it is NOT original as a concept, and it is free on YouTube as well.
Here is jazz:
Here is some stuff not Latin nor jazz that would fit good with flamenco guitar, or at least I could envision a cool fusion that would break the one dimensional trend, she has cool rhythms:

I absolutely adored Egberto Gismonti and his music when I was young. It is very nice to hear that his inspiration has passed on to his daughter, of course with a great effort and countless hours of relation with music and piano studying on her side.

Thank you for your explain. I don't know much about Jazz, Chicuelo's style is sounds like a Jazz fusion IMP. Because he uses some different chords from traditional flamenco. And he like to use the same finger shapes to different position which reminds me of the jazz guitar skills I learned
RE: chicuelo new solo album.. (in reply to duende)
Chicuelo is a Conde fan. Currently he endorses Conde Atocha but he mostly plays Conde Gravina from the seventies and eighties. To my ears is more fusion than flamenco but it’s good music and I like it more than Camilo-Tomatito. Josémi Carmona few years ago was also into jazz fusion with some flamenco hints.

I don't know if you're looking for this kind of stuff but Niño Josele has a release called "Paz" that is a tribute to Bill Evans which has some enjoyable moments. I find the songs with vocals can be a tad awkward, but the album's worth a listen. It's nicely done. I used to listen to this a lot when I was working in my shop.

Oh I know this. I thought Nino Josele was a jazz musician at first because of this album. But I like it, some songs are peaceful and can help me fall asleep.
