I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the Carillo guitars coming out now that are endorsed by Tomatito. I'd be interested in hearing any feedback from someone who may have played some of the models, either the entry level or higher quality instruments. thank you

Vicente Tomaatito makes a 1a and 2a models as blancas and negras. The 1a models are made in collaboration between Vicente Carrillo and Juan Miguel Gonzalez. The 2a models are made by his workers. The 1a is a concert flamenco guitar that any professional would be happy with; the 2a is a high quality student instrument-- good volume, but lacks the refinements of tone that the 1a offers.

I have the Carrillo PdL 1a its pretty much the same guitar minus the headstock and label with signatures. Plantilla is exactly the same. According to some friends in Spain the PdL (Carrillo's top of the line) sounded better. They said the Tomatito guitars felt heavier and not as responsive. You never know until you try it..check it out with a 48 hour trial. I know the guy on eBay selling these guitars in Florida. His name is Omar, a nice guy and he will give you your money back if you don't like it.

Michael--I had Vicente Carrillo make a PDL 1a, negra to my specifications in 2007 (650 mm scale, 3 mm action at 12th fret, Madagascar Rosewood). It has a beautiful sound and easy playability. Vicente comes from a long line of luthiers. (I believe he is the fourth or fifth generation in the line.) Based on my experience, both in dealing with Vicente and with the guitar he made to my specifications, I highly recommend him.

Very nice sounding guitar. According to the label it is a 2002 Negra (the time when the PdL guitars were made). In this piece it is tuned with the sixth in D which always makes a guitar sound better than tuned in E.
Anyway, the lyrical trebles typical of Carrillo's guitars are definitely present. For the rest you always have to try a Carrillo as the basses you look for often quite vary from one guitar to another. My 2006 Madagascar is by far the best Carrillo example I've ever had in my hands.

I don’t know if it is just me but these negras made in the Conde style share a very recognisable personality. I mean that the negras of Pedro de Miguel, Sanchis Carpio, Carrillo and Jeronimo Perez (at least those I tried) are not as different to each other as their blancas.
