Yeah its a really nice composition John. What I love about it is its a real rhythmic challenge and modern sounding but the left hand is actually ok and doesn't have crazy stretches, so in theory it can be played cleanly :) .
I just can't get those 16th notes smooth at much over 100 but gonna keep trying.
Len are you gonna gonna update the challenge page... the moving deadline is making me feel nervous.

I'm sure yours would sound balanced and clean and awesome with a backing track but most of us are ****e at recording and in other challenges it always sounded terrible to me.

i kinda agree ... and it has to be one rule for all .... however ... does the term 'backing track' include a metronome click? ... i been practicing with one recently and foolishly have became accustomed to it ...
even a tiny weeny quiet one? ,,,over there .........in the corner... not bothering anyone ...

it doesn't have to be a compás track, palmas or just clicks would be fine too - but it sounds really empty without anything...please think about it :)
I believe the reason behind this is that there are people who have no clue about recording and balancing more than one track, which leads to submissions where the guitar is overpowered by what should be the background.
Also, it would make it too easy to spot maybe half of the participants just by their sound/mix.

maybe if ToddK entered :D I don't think I'd recognize anyone else's playing by their mix. Either way, I'm done with recording, I made a naked version and one with a not too loud compás track behind it. The second one sounds a whole lot better of course. I'll submit whichever is decided. I just think that the lack of rhythmic reference is not good for judging accuracy/technique/aire; plus it pretty much goes against the spirit of flamenco.

It wont sound empty jimi .. your bezazz , energy and natural flamenconess will fill in all the space and leave it bursting with fullness of sound, and Ole-ness...that is the thing that will carry it forward ... folk will speak of your entry for years to come ... it wont need the soulless tick- tock of an autometer.....

I probably won't be able to listen to the entries until the 12th of July... I'll try to do it as soon as possible, worst case scenario I'll post my judging on the 13th.

RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Chal... (in reply to Sr. Martins)
I am very curious, in challenges past I had an idea where I'd land and I was pretty accurate, this one I feel like I have no clue where I'll place. Think I'm as ready as I'm gunna be though, gunna record Monday or Tuesday night. Rui is in charge of this uploading method, hopefully he's feeling better, if anything happens everyone can send to me and I just won't vote.

No more recording for me, I'm off travelling without my recorder. But I got about 40 takes with me to sift through to set apart the good, the bad and the ugly. No prizes for guessing for which of those three categories gets the most files Just so long as at least one is good enough to kick butt.

ok ...recording done .....again.....
i dont have to play it anymore ...
its ok i suppose ... the string section in the second movement was good .. brass and wind section a bit loud toward the finale and the fireworks kinda drowned them out a bit, you know ...I do think John will approve of the timpani counterpart .. lets just see ...
