Vicente at age 16

Here he is playing on his Gerundino I would guess. It's the only video I've ever seen where he isn't playing pieces his first album. What a prodigy.

Wow, thanks for sharing. Even at 16 he was really amazing back then.

Wowwwwwwwwwww! Thank you for posting this! He sounded so much like Tomate/PdL at that time. He clearly had not yet developed his voice, even though I could hear a bit of his favorite picado runs. Great find man! How did you come across this?

He looks less like Tom Hiddlestone there and more like Justin Bieber.

Great find though. At 16 he's a finer player than most after a lifetime of playing.

Great talent.

Well you know I was just dusting off old reels in the basement ;)

he's alright. I'm totally better then 16 year old Vicente. Actually, if I was playing that well at 16 I'd probably be bored too by age 48 and put out something different like Tierra.

I'm betting once he got his Reyes he couldn't stop playing the treble strings.

I wish Vicente would let me come over and shoot some more YouTube videos of him playing at his house. Maybe a documentary or something

I thinks it's cool to see what material he was playing before he composed his own stuff. Kinda allows me to identify more as a student.

thats was great really nice too see him performing a classic set of bulerias lots of tomatito in there - nice sound and not phased at all but playing live

That's fascinating. He sounds more like (a 16 year-old virtuoso approximation of) Paco than he does himself in even his first album. And no wonder: his first studio album wouldn't appear for another eight years.

Now, I'm curious to see clips of him playing between ages 16 and 24.

i was gonna reply and say there are no geniuses, that its just a misconception that people imagine, that when you pull back the curtain on their lives youll see they werent actually "born" exceptionally good, but youll see a lot of environmental factors and hard work and dedication and opportunity and competitive spirit, but i looked up the definition of genius and i think we tend to over-idolize this concept, which usually happens when people dont fully understand something, they tend to come to some mystical, spiritual intangible conclusion. the definition-

- an exceptional natural capacity of intellect, especially as shown in creative and original work in science, art, music, etc.:
the genius of Mozart.
Synonyms: intelligence, ingenuity, wit; brains.
2.
a person having such capacity.
3.
a person having an extraordinarily high intelligence rating on a psychological test, as an IQ above 140.
natural ability or capacity; strong inclination:
a special genius for leadership.
Synonyms: gift, talent, aptitude, faculty, endowment, predilection; penchant, knack, bent, flair, wizardry.

so actually you could classify a lot of others here as so called "geniuses" too!!! how many 'geniuses' out there who are stuck in go no where life who just didnt have the environment where they could build on their strengths? but if the same person was born and raised in the right environment and was allowed to flourish becomes a 'master', but he was just born that way right? no. a seed has to be planted in good soil otherwise it wont grow strong, doesn't matter how good the genes of the seed are, we are captive to our environment

Paco points out the quotes from Stravinsky, that great artists borrow from each other, and the "geniuses" simply steal their ideas DIRECTLY from some source.

its really nice just seeing these guys playing in the raw -- 16 that is an incredible - playing for an audience so calm - lovely work seeing pdl play when hes younger is awesome too - i guess its just amazing seeing someone play with out the bells and whistles
