How to count compas in this guajira ... 

Hey guys,

This falseta is not hard to play but the compas doesn't jump out at me. I hear it in 4s so I don't know how to fit it into the 12 beat compas. Him saying "un, dos" at the start also seems to be at much slower tempo than I would tap my foot for this piece so that doesn't really help.

I think it starts on 2 because that way when I count, the 6 lands on the A right as it should. Could anyone confirm (or deny)?

Hi Nena. He counts 1-2-Y (which Ricardo points out below corresponds to 6-8-10...)
Then, 12+1/+2+/3+4/+5+-----6+7/+8+/9+10/+11+
It sound like triplets in 4/4 but is actually three eighth notes grouped together.
It sounds like 1-trip-let/2-trip-let/3-trip-let/4-trip-let but is really,
----------------12..+...1/+....2...+/3...+...4/+....5..+../----6+7/+8+/9+10/+11+

It is also symmetrical. It would be easier to hear if there was a palmero giving compas on 12-3-6-8-10, or 7-8-10 (which I have heard some complain is too much like solxbul and takes away from the aire of Guajira).

Like kevin said he says "1,2 y" which correspond to counts 6,8,10. It's kind of fast for baile IMO.

Thank you all for the replies.

I really should have been able to figure this out on my own since the whole thing with the melody sounding like it's in 3s while in terms of rhythm its 2 clicks per beat is pretty common.
