Welcome to one of the most active flamenco sites on the Internet. Guests can read most posts but if you want to participate click here to register.
This site is dedicated to the memory of Paco de Lucía, Ron Mitchell, Guy Williams, Linda Elvira, Philip John Lee, Craig Eros, Ben Woods, David Serva and Tom Blackshear who went ahead of us.
We receive 12,200 visitors a month from 200 countries and 1.7 million page impressions a year. To advertise on this site please contact us.
With all the posts remembering and celebrating Pacos life and work I have been made aware of material and albums that I didnt even know about before. I did a forum search on Pacos discography and there isn't one here. Even Pacos official site only lists his solo albums and other web discographies I have found are incomplete.
So my idea is to collate as best as possible a complete official discography with all your help. I will list as much as I can and if you guys could add material I will add it to the original post. In this way we could get a pretty useful reference to all of the works. Please don't post bootleg recordings...there are thousands.
I do realise this will be quite a challenge but I think that between our members there are enough aficionados and collectors to pull it off. I will try to post links to material that is hard to find. Please post any additions, errors or omissions.

Many thanks for that Pimientito, that's some fantastic guide for all of us.
I have this album with Enrique Montoya named El Puente, 18 tracks, registered as 1427.2071-2 Also an album titled María Vargas y La Guitarra de Paco de Lucía from 2004, 12 tracks, no other info...
Brian Adams is already on the list! Ramzi - Even the wikipedia list is not complete. There are a couple of albums with cante that I missed but im really interested in the extra tracks he did on various albums. JIMI- can you post a photo of the Enrique Montoya disc. Mine is a Spanish version. Here is a photo of some of the more hard to find items that I came across in various second hand stores.

I recall, that the sleeve of an old record mentioned that PdL played the soundtrack to "Antonio in the caves of Nerja". The record was Dos Guitarras Flamencas (without "en estereo"), which I no longer have.
As far as I could find out this is: Antonio en la cueva de Nerja (1963) Documentary 19min Directed by Manuel Gutiérrez Torrero Fernando Pallarés Manuel Gutiérrez Torrero ... (writer) Cast (in alphabetical order) Antonio (Antonio Ruiz Soler = Antonio el Bailarín 1921–1996) Cinematography by Agustín Macasoli
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any new mention of the soundtrack
A compilation release with the best of guitar music that I am aware of:
Paco Doble, LP, Philips, 9279241
Side 1: 7 tracks of Paco de Lucia Side 2: 7 tracks of Paco Pena
I have been asked many times to give away this LP (, but resisted). Makes you wonder why Philips never released it again, not even as CD. ( - Maybe because of originally 8 different publishers involved?)

Thanks guys....yeah still a lot of loose ends. Check out those old albums for stray tracks! Ruphus, I have never seen that compilation. You actually have this as an LP?? Simon...that is definately not one of the better tracks
Paco's first solo guitar album was 1964, a short play record with Rondeña, Buleria, Siguiriya, Alegria and Cantiñas. "La Guitarra de Paco de Lucia" I think it's called.
He accompanied also Pepe on "orgullo de me Padre" mid 90's, also Remedios Amaya, and Cigala on single tracks. Mclaughlin's "the Promise". Enrique del Melchor Fandango duet. ummm, I'll think of more. Saura flamenco movie soundtracks.
Ruphus, I have never seen that compilation. You actually have this as an LP??
Yes, still have it, in good shape. Had even digitized it through top notch convertors. However, suspect to have lost those files. If they are still existend then they must be on a DAW which is stored away. Too bad that my turntable has gone down on me, otherwise I could had tracked them again with portable DSD recorder and decent pres. If you are very interested I can try to check old back up media, though probably then as Ghost image files ...
Thanks Ricardo...I knew I could count on you to fill some of the gaps. I completely forgot about "the promise".
I also remembered that a bulerias duet with Ramon appeared in the Movie "The life aquatic with Steve Zissou" but its not on the original 60s LPS "Entre dos Aguas" also featured in Woody Allens "Vicky Christina Barcelona"
Arrggh...its endless I have found all these extra albums and tracks

Going to bed now but am staggered at how this guy recorded so much.
Is the Enrique Montoya album you included the same as this one, Flamenco Romántico?
Yes, but the link you posted is for the CD re-issue. If you look at my photo you you will see the original vinyl version which was simply titled Enrique Montoya, Paco de lucia. p.s. Im glad you are here Paul as you are one of the other collectors that Im hoping can fill in the gaps
but there’s no mention of other guitarists—the whole thing is passed of as Lucía.
There are no notes.
I haven't yet succeeded in figuring out who all the guitarists are, and exactly who plays what.
ironically "Entre Dos Aguas" is probably not even played by Paco at all, but by Rafael Cañizares
I think those "Las Mejores Guitarras" compilations (volumes 1 and 2) feature only two tracks actually played by Paco; "Soleares Populares" and "Tarantos Populares" but I have never discovered where or how they were originally released.
They weren't on that early EP, or any other release I know about.
The Tarantos is almost the same as "Viva La Union" on Fabulosa Guitarra, but is not the same recording.

anyone?
That stuff ain't paco at all. He never played that out of compas in his life, even when he was "chiquitos de Algeciras" 14 years old....it is some hack amature trying to play his stuff that's all. But it is amazing it's labeled with his picture and everything as if it's him. I think it was meant to be a tribute or something and the record company got confused. Entre dos aguas is off time from first note to the last, horrible.

I saw this in a classical guitarists' collection. What a joke. THe paco tracks selections of Paco and Ramon doing the hispanic american thing, the other side Peña alone. They set it up so classical guitar aficionados think the two are dueting.
Just thinking, he is featured in Magna Antologia of Cante, but those track could have been pulled from albums already mentioned, I would need to check. Also Rito y Geographia, but not sure if we are counting that kind of thing here. If so, then must include Light and Shade, and Francisco Sanchez.
Anyone with Mairena/Paco live tracks I would love to get mp3 of those, those are not commercially available as far as I know. Also the British release of Fuente with different version of Entre dos Aguas I would like to have. I loaded up a dry mix of Punta del Faro that I found on a compilation, it also has a dry version of Barrio la Viña, but the music is the same as the originals.

For reasons of silly prestige you are being ignorant. Even who awards himself for hearing the beauty in less obviously catchy palos and improvisations should not be carried away to deny the sheer beauty of these perfectly harmonic and pulling pieces and the dreamlike way they are performed and recorded.
Your presumption to distort also obvious with the claim how people were tricked into thinking it was a duet. Would the back side of the cover be looking like this then?
See how below tracklist the artists are mentioned separately for any literate to read.
An elitist behaviour which even leads you to dismiss the most beautiful music: That is a joke. And a sad one at that. Such actually is what I meant in the "Paco has passed away" thread:
quote:
He was not lofty, but attentive to the people. Even his skills could not make a snob of him. ( I have noticed that no little number of musicians with their rising know-how and proficiency will develop intolerant against beginner´s / mediocre´s performance. Some become even insensitive to actually sonor sound fields.)

none of them? the recording of Entre dos Aguas is obviously not Paco, but the Solea and Taranto I'm not so sure...

I've heard it, I knew someone who had the record, I might have kept a copy, probably on an old tape, i will have a look sometime. I understood it was the "original" version of Entre dos Aguas, improvised in the studio to make an extra track for the LP etc., but then Paco re-recorded a better version for general release, but this is probably a lot of hearsay and supposition.

Its ironic that Pacos most famous work as far as the general public is concerned was an improvisation thrown together as quick as possible to finish Fuente y Caudal.
I dont know if what you wrote is correct. I heard that the British Version had picado runs that were too long and fast, and this was somehow in bad taste for a commercial release...but which recording came first, I have no idea. However the picado run in the middle of the British version is still to this day the most jaw dropping and awesome piece of guitar playing that I have ever heard.
... an improvisation thrown together as quick as possible to finish Fuente y Caudal.
This album was tracked in 1973, right? What about those old B&W films of Paco and brother performing in a kitchen ( Takes that I love, besides!!)
Weren´t those from before 1973? And the way the two play Entre Dos Aguas in that footage, besides does not appear like some sponatenously created and anyhow repeated session to me, but instead looks like a well rehearsed performance of the two.
I don´t buy into the `thrown together´story. Rather would I assume that EdA evolved over time until its final state like shown in the kitchen video.
For reasons of silly prestige you are being ignorant.
You got me all wrong Ruphus, i Have no problem at all with the content. My issue, and why a say it's a "Joke" is about the evil -capitalistic -prey -upon consumer -ignorance , yet clever, MARKETING STRATEGY of the record company that did this Paco doble thing. THe FRONT COVER.... only non sheep type aficionados bother to FLIP THE JACKET OVER, as you have done, to gain a bit of insight. I know because this album came to my attention as thus...."what? you are a flamenco guy but didn't know that Paco and Paco played duets together, I have PROOOF!!!"...
Anyway, you are totally right about Entre Dos Aguas, he had been playing this like crazy with his brother's back up since 1971 at least, to the point where his "improvisations" had turned into falsetas. Perhaps he was thinking not to put it on the album, but it seems doubtful. For sure he and brothers had no idea it would be a disco hit. However the kitchen scene was indeed aired in 1973, May 21. Perhaps it was filmed a bit earlier, but the series spans the years 1971-73.
Anyway, back to non sheep discography digging...there is the duet with Paco and Juan Habichuela por Tangos and Potito sings, very nice track on Juan's first Solo guitar album. Also an entire live duet concert from the mid 80's in John Mclaughlin Montreux Box set. I remember the story John wanted to included a trio concert but Al wouldn't let him do it unless it was a separate from the box commercial release, so john said screw that, and also never would be a trio again, and used the Paco duo concert instead. Came out only a few years ago. http://www.amazon.com/John-Mclaughlin-Montreux-Concerts/dp/B0000E5SJB
those prices are funny. you can get from abstract logix (they work direct w mclaughlin) for $235
Take my apologies, please. I completely misunderstood what you actually meant. -
Entre Dos Aguas in fact is the one track that should had been on that compilation to become my totally perfect all-time guitar LP, for when you just want to be pulled out of the chair and duende along.
