I am speechless and sadden to hear of the loss of "THE GREATEST" flamenco guitarist that ever walked the face of the earth!

I can only say that I am so happy to have seen him perform in Arizona in 2013! It was truly a spiritual experience for me!

My heart has been ripped from my chest.

I feel so sad for his kids, to lose him so suddenly, and right in front
of them. That scar will be huge, and will remain for life.

I am happy for the fact that, he never "lost it".

He was playing absolutely top notch right up until the end.
I feel so sad for those that did not get to see him live, or meet him.

I did not cry when my father died. But i cry now.

Rest in peace, my greatest hero..

OMG I could not believe it when I heard. I felt sick & had to leave work for a few minutes & get some air......

Just to think we have all lost the best Flamenco guitarist of all time. My daughter asked me who is going to take his place & be the next "Paco" Sadly I told her that will never happen.

There will & always ever be one Paco De Lucia!!!!!!

That's a bummer, I actually thought he was at least ten years older. He died too
young. Seems to be a trend lately with the good guitar players, they all smoke
and the inevitable cancer or heart disease get's them. I agree with Todd, it's
too bad it happened in front of his kids that will hurt forever.

I saw him live twice, first time was when he did the Live in America album, and
that concert was note for note an exact replication of the album. Last time
was in his recent tour through Chicago. Both were really great.

Surely a sad day when somebody like that dies.

I was shocked to get an email about Paco late last night. It does not make sense, he had many years of music and life in him. We should all thank the mother that brought him to life.

All I can say is that we have lost the master of all masters. It's like I have a hole inside me. Words cannot express my sorrow. Now he is at the greatest juerga of all, with all of the greats...

I can only imagine... Camaron, Morente, Moraíto, Enrique de Melchor, La Paquera, Sabicas, Carmen Amaya... Man, what a party!

Actually, Playa del Carmen is neither more nor less "authentically Mexican" than Cancun. Cancun, for example, is just as "authentic" a Mexican destination for the international tourist crowd as a poor, dusty, village in central Mexico loaded with pregnant women and lame dogs is an "authentic" poor, dusty Mexican village loaded with pregnant women and lame dogs. Both are "authentic" aspects of the overall culture of Mexico today.

In any case, it is Paco de Lucia upon whom we are focused, and it is his passing that is mourned by all who care about vituoso flamenco guitar and Paco's mastery of it.

Everyone I've met who encountered Paco personally attested to his approachability, humility, lack of pretense -- so flamenco musicians, pro, amateur, whatever level, can honor him by all of us trying to be that way towards each other, towards everybody -- except possibly Ruben Diaz (OK maybe we can use a small chuckle).

Such a strange feeling , to feel such loss . Yet in this age of technology I still have so much of his brilliance to get to know . The only way I have ever known him . Peace and love to his Family and close friends . I will be having a few beers .

The cycle of life and death continues , its a bit shocking when someone we love leaves us so early but its not like he will ever totally be gone so long as the living continue to be inspired by his music.

Yesterday everything suddenly felt unreal and empty.
People around me (non-flamencos) seemed to think I was silly for being so affected by the loss of a celebrity.

I feel less alone when I see you guys are feeling it just as deeply.

Flamenco has lost a great personality.

When I heard the news I felt a pang of such grief.

I never knew him, yet it seems that in some way, through his music, all of us knew him.

What a tragic yet poignant irony that Paco died on Playa del Carmen.

Indeed. While I'm saddened by his death, I'm finding some consolation in trying to comprehend what he accomplished.

This is historical.

It's both the end of an era and the beginning of so many of the possibilities he created. What a legacy. What a gift to the world.
