Dani de Morón album

it's out now finally and I have to say it's a must buy for all fans of modern flamenco toque...

fortunately, the album is not in line with the current annoying (to me) trend of making it sound like pop music at places with instruments alien to flamenco and the occasional cheesy cante chorus here and there...

there is some truly terrific playing there, with exciting rhythmical variations, and lots of slow emotional music...the toque is extremely clean, which is great, but here comes the downside of the trend - it's so clean it has been sterilized, it offers much less dynamics than i would have expected...

in style DDM is similar to the other DDM, son of Moraíto, so if you guys like his music, you will find this album entertaining, but void of all the poppyness...

totally agreed! fantastic album
I love the fact that I can still hear the Diego del Gastor influence on him!

here is a sample track of his first bulerias track:

I also love that awesome album cover photo: just HOW COOL IS THAT!

Very cool. Is anyone in the US selling hard copies of this album? (I know it's available on iTunes, etc.).

Dani decided to make the album out on occasion of the birthday of his mother, this is what my teacher told me when he attended a stage with him this summer. Really amazing album.

Did anyone catch the Diego del Gastor falseta in the first track? I wasn't expecting that...

I bought it. Totally worth the money.. and as mp3 not that expensive. Really cool tracks.. The only thing that is weird is...the better compsitions are the later ones... you have to get through some very looong solea and other stuff to get there...

this has been my impression on first listen (in background at work), but it surely deserves more spins.

Finally got around to downloading this from Amazon. Really enjoying this album. Aside from the great playing this album has a huge spacious sound and great panning. Listen on some good speakers.

RE: Dani de Morón album (in reply to tri7/5

I'm quite disappointed. I miss those elements that run through the compostitions like a golden thread and that keep your attention as a listener. Lets take "Barrio C": There is this cool compás pattern starting at 00:39 which is really catchy. The whole time I was waiting for the moments when it would repeat to get me back on track. Doesn't happen. I felt like listening to collections of ideas rather than mature pieces of music.

The style reminds me a lot of Diego del Morao soundwise so right from the beginning I was comparing the whole thing to "Orate". Got to say that Diego is way better as a composer imo. He knows how to create a good leitmotif.

i think the gem of the album is the self titled inmagracion

the free form "intro" imo is absolutely amazing

Does anyone know the tuning he is in? I was messing around a bit and thought it might be dadf#ad or something along those lines. Since there are two guitars at times it's a little harder to pick out the true voicing.

I cant say i enjoyed most of the modern albums that came out since 2010 or so. At least not as much as the ones before. Maybe the style changed, but maybe its me who has changed. Dani's bulerias sounds like try hard rhythmically complex. His ideas are shorter than Diego's but Dani's thumb stuff is on par with Diego's IMO. I just think Diego has more versatility in melodies, and as you say has always his leitmotif set up.

I cant name you the names of the tuning... but 1st 2nd and 6th are all 2 half tones down. The rest is normal.
