Ron's funeral and a message from AC

Well, we have given Ron a right royal send-off today. His daughter, AC, took it upon herself to arrange the whole thing and speak pretty much throughout - handing over to me to introduce the videos you kindly sent in. For an 18 year-old under very difficult circumstances, she did her Dad proud. No prayers or hymns. It was a flamenco goodbye, with a Camerón Soleá at the beginning, Ron's own Siguriyas, a Capullo "Fin de la Fiesta" for the closing of the curtains and Radio Tarifa to end.

I did my bit with a few chokes, but we got there in the end. Some of what was left over from the wreath has gone on other funeral expenses and the rest is going into a pot to honour Ron here (at AC's request), probably the Boot Camp, if it happens.

Thank you for all your donations and video contributions. We took up at least 12 mins. of the short ceremony and it showed a side of Ron few of his friends and family really knew about him. As I said in my Eulogy, "If a man is to be measured by his friends, then Ron was a king amongst men."

Here is a message for you from AC, after the funeral.

It's nice to see you smiling AC and it's good to know that we have given you some good memories to help you deal with the loss of your father. Please keep in touch with the Foro.

Good job Simon! You and Ron created a small, but great community.

Simon,

Thank you so much for attending on behalf of all of us here, and for bearing our condolences and our fond appreciation of Ron to all his family and friends.

And, wow, I didn’t know AC was only eighteen, and would not have guessed it from the way she’s been handing all this and has conducted herself here on the Foro. That girl’s going places, I tell ya!

The wreath came out brilliantly. They even managed a cejilla on the 2nd fret. I have some photos which I will post tomorrow, when I get home. Meantime, I have some beers to attend to... up in my little Aberdeen attic room.

I've been waiting to see that guitar, came out great! As well I really did assume AC was someone much older, what a great head on her shoulders.

I thought that was a cejilla. I was concerned they might make a wreath that looked like steel string guitar, but they really exceeded my expectations.

If only some of human qualities gathered here were to be substantial to global common sense, the world would be so different from an insane, desinformed, superstitious and destructive mob that is about to devastate the planet.
- The sheer brainlessness out there that plagues mindful and empathical spirits like of Ron, while he was wading through on alleviating stilts of fine humor.

Thank you, dear Simon, and brave little AC for the message.

Sad indeed. But thank you Simon for representing all of us at Ron's funeral.

And thank you also AC for the privelige of allowing us to be involved in your grief, and your (and our) sad loss of your legendary Dad.

I'm glad you liked my idea of the guitar wreath; and indeed it came out really well. The florists did a great job. (Loved the cejilla).

As a personal tribute, I'll be planting some new fruit trees this fall, and I'll name one of them after Ron - and hang a St. Andrews' Cross flag on it. I'll send you a pic.

Please, continue to stay in touch with us. . .

Hello everyone! Yes, the wreath came out amazing, didn't it? They put in so much detail, and care. I was very impressed!
Thank you so much for helping out with the funeral arrangements, none of this could have happened without the help of every single one of you. The service was spectacular and you helped give my Dad the send off he truly deserved.

Sorry I haven't been on the forum in a while, I can only get on the laptop when my boyfriends at work and I'm not. But since coming back my work have bombarded me with hours, so I haven't had a lot of time.

I do intend to keep posting on here and keeping in touch with everyone here. I'm going on holiday on Friday for 2 weeks to Portugal, so I will no doubt annoy everyone with some ridiculous pictures. So brace yourselves!

Also Lionel, I've greatly considered taking up flamenco. A few years ago I got my Dad to teach me a few chords and stuff, but I just didn't have the patience for it. I reckon if I am able to get my Dad's guitar I will perhaps take up flamenco. I've decided, at the very least, as a tribute to my Dad I am going to try and learn a piece to play on the anniversary of his passing.

P.S Lionel, I see your birthday is on the 5th of November, birthday snap! Haha

AC, if you see the thread on Ron's Boot Camp (that we discussed before), some of us are hoping to be in Spain next Spring and it would be nice of you guys could get down there and drop in, maybe get some beginner's help from Ricardo.

I'll keep you updated.

Thank you for your message AC, good to see you with our floral tribute. It came out beautifully. A big thank you too to Simon for representing us all on the day, am glad you guys got together. Wish Harold and I could have been there.

I think the boot camp is a great idea and look forward to meeting those of you who can make it. AC if you come along there is always a place for you here in Granada. I'd be honoured to meet Ron's daughter, he always wanted to visit here so hope you can do it in his place.

Hope you are having a wonderful holiday in Portugal. Only just got back from a 2 week break myself which is why I am late posting here.

Hello everyone! Guess whos back ;D

Simon, I would love to go to Spain! I had a look beforehand at what you have planned and it looks like it'll be really exciting. It all depends on money though and if I can afford it. I really need to make a start on saving up for college/the future, plus a few friends and I have been toying around with the idea of starting a clothing company (whether or not this actually happens is another thing). But please, do keep me updated! As I would really like to go, and if hours at work start picking up again or I get another job, I will definitely set aside some of it.

Yes Kate! It really would be an amazing opportunity, I've never been to Spain before and to be honest, I can't think of any other people on this world I'd rather visit Spain for the first time with. Plus, being able to meet all my Dad's favourite people in the country he loved would be just fantastic!

I had a great time thank you! No way, what a coincidence! Where abouts were you staying? We were staying in a place not too far from Albuferia, called Olhos D'agua. I hope you had a wonderful holiday also.
