That's Charles. He used to teach at a guitar shop in the next town.
IMHO, he's a very good guitarist and he's dedicated to continuously exploring new styles and improving his abilities under well-qualified instructors; but he's not really a flamenco guitarist. His techniques and music are more along the lines of rumba flamenca and noveau flamenco.
I remember that I stumbled on a Sedlak's youtube video lesson when I was beggining my flamenco musical journey and I thought "dunno why but this ain't the real deal"

I'm more or less in that position now, it sounded like nothing to me. I think he's doing Flamenco a great disservice by pedelling his 'Flamenco Made Easy' video, especially when it seems it's going to be full of very poorly executed tequniques with no flamenco form whatsoever.
Laughable? That sounded pretty good. Not puro, but the man was obviously inspired by that sound. What's wrong with that?
I'll take a chance and say that it's better than anything that you can play.
More practicing, less hating.
Well he admits in an interview it's not flamenco, so why pitch it as such on youtube? He can clearly play, and says he's happy being the bastard child of flamenco and classical. The piece is ok, but the fake rock star posturing, and what I perceive to be hubris, annoyed me for some reason. Maybe I am too harsh, you clearly think so.
I reiterate, I become unhappy at something that is not flamenco being pitched as flamenco. That's all. I understand now that this may only be on youtube.
As for my own skills, I have said I'm a beginner at flamenco, but I can play other styles.
I don't hate, and I practice as time allows. I love flamenco, but never in my life will I ever be able to say I can play flamenco, however adept I become at the compas, the techniques, and whatever the size of repertoire I develop, my flamenco soul and spirit will never be the truth, just a small candle in the face of the blinding light of the real thing.
ORIGINAL: ToddK So until i become a better director than George Lucas, i'm not allowed to say Star Wars sucked? Thats idiotic.
If you're an aspiring director you're better off trying to figure out what was good about Star Wars rather than dismissing it altogether.

Wow, that's clever. I know where you haven't been -- reading.
silddx - i understand your annoyance at what you thought was hubris (although I didn't see any 'rock star posturing' in that video), but aren't you now guilty of it as well?
Why so sensitive about flamenco? Did you also get upset when Bon Jovi was considered a metal band?
Well you seem to want a philosophical 'discussion'.
Your remark to ToddK is absurd. Are you really implying one cannot criticise one's government unless one is capable of doing better, can't moan about the travails of using Microsoft Windows unless one is capable of designing and building a better operating system? You also misunderstood what ToddK wrote, so maybe reading more carefully should be on YOUR agenda, not Todd's.
As for your question regarding what you perceive as my 'sensitivity', if you see someone being sold a teapot by someone telling them it's a kettle, do you not feel that is wrong? I have great respect for musical tradition, I bridle at those who attempt to pass off something as something with greater value in order to gain a pecuniary or reputational advantage through others' lack of knowledge or awareness. I think that is wrong, and in the case of the videos in this thread, a disservice to a great musical tradition that needs to be preserved and built upon for the benefit of the musicians, singers, dancers, and palmeros who preserve that tradition. Acceptance of non-flamenco guitarists who proclaim their wares as flamenco, is marginalising the the essence of flamenco and those who practice it.

The last thing I want is a philosophical discussion with you my friend.
Your post is essentially a reiteration of toddk's post with more redundancies and more bad examples. I've already said my piece regarding these points. You might want to clear your head a bit, re-read, and try to understand my previous post.
What I'm trying to do here is help you. You're suffering from n00b syndrome. You've recently discovered that all the watered down crap that you previously thought was flamenco isn't 'flamenco puro', and you're now on a little youtube crusade pointing out how cheesy spanish sounding crap is being billed as flamenco.
It's ok. Many of us here have been there. It reminds me of when I started playing music and the term 'musician' was some noble thing that I aspired to be. I would get upset when some three-chord-strumming bastard would call himself a musician while I was shedding away and wouldn't dare consider myself one of the 'special few'.
In the end it's all bs. It doesn't matter how good you are or what style of music you're playing. If you've given your listener pleasure - you've done your job. If the seven circlejerkers on the foro don't like what you're doing coz you're not gitano enough - big effin deal.
No one is selling you anything on youtube. If I play Mary Had a Little Lamb and title it Moron style bulerias it's my right. You don't have to watch it. Your hating hurts no one but yourself.
I tried to give you another perspective, but you chose to retain your little paradigm. That's fine, you can keep living in your little world - I won't say another word.

Oh wow! I get it now! I thought you were being a dick before, but now i realize, you're just not very bright.
