Composition Challenge/Game Idea
So here's my idea...
It's not really a formal challenge, more like a game. Each week, we set some guidelines for everyone to compose something.
For instance, this week, we'll set the palo to tangos, the chord progression to be Dm - C - Bb - A, and the falseta has to include thumb work and rasgueados. It can get harder each week, but we'll keep it simple for now.
They're just general guidelines. You can loosely play around it or stick to it tightly (that's what she said.)
It doesn't even have to be a full blown falseta, it can be just a little short lick. The idea is to just create. It's open to all levels.
As the week progresses and people post up their ideas, we can take it and expand on it, then someones expands on that and so on, and we keep snowballing back and forth. Or we just create our own from scratch.
The goal is to not have any super high expectations. We're just trying to get our creative juices going and have fun and inspire each other. Basically, it's for your own good.

Sweet, welcome aboard guys!

every week there shuold be a vote for this weeks winner and he - shuold determine the next guidelines
that could potentially work but then we would have to figure out a fair judging system. it would time and effort to implement. and it might create a more competitive environment, possibly pushing away beginners.
my idea is that it's like the falseta swap shop but with original material and a "theme" for each week.

Interesting idea ,,, I think that a week is a bit quick for some of us ,,.. two weeks ...? Bearing in mind that the second time you have to listen to and expand upon the falsettas from the previous week , that are progressivly getting harder...
The Neverending Falsetta .....
How does it change from palo to palo ¿
its a good idea though , I will try to take part in some shape or form ,

we can do two weeks if everyone agrees to that.
ok, for example. rombsix posts a tangos falseta tomorrow. i watch it, get ideas, add to it, then post my own video. but i dont HAVE to expand on his ideas. i can just make my own too. it's just an option and it's not considered cheating.
so after a week, a bunch of people have submitted their own stuff. then adam suggests that we do alegrias for the next week. the falseta has to be primarily picado but the chord progression doesn't matter. everyone thinks that's cool and just goes with it.
the following week, somebody suggests we do a solea following Am-G-F-E. It doesn't matter what technique we use.
so basically, if somebody suggests an idea and it's popular, we just go with it.
this week, it's tangos. Dm-C-Bb-A. Try to make it a thumb based falseta. either make up your own, or wait for someone else to post first and steal his ideas and add your own twist. we'll figure out details of the game as we go along. now GO CREATE!

These chords (Dm-C-Bb-A) are to be taken as degrees, we can use a capo, right?
I would like to participate. Being a beginner, I feel that its better if this doesnt turn out as a competition. Its fun to have something that will make you come up with stuff at least two times a month.
Maybe you could open an official thread just for this and maybe call it "Anti-Procrastination Challenge"
It could start tomorrow (1st may) and end by the 14th. During this period we would decide what to do next, starting on the 15th and so on..
edit: "deciding what to do next" means that we would grab ideas from everyone. One picks a palo, someone else chooses a chord(s), style of playing, etc.. all sorts of "limits" that can be thought of.

of course, but i'm making a new rule. you can't capo above 13.

you caught me. that's exactly what it is. i need you guys to inspire me and give me material to steal so i can stop procrastinating. it's all for personal gain!
i thought we could just post our entries in the swap shop but it might clutter things up there. it's probably better to have a separate thread. what about the name, "the falseta factory thread"?

hey for inspiration post your buleria nos miran and brag about it then shout at members here " show me what you GOT !!! "
haha, thanks for the compliment but i got to really update it. too many arpeggios.
This should get the ball rolling. I composed this introduction like thing using the chords mentioned, roughly. I realized after I had already made it that we were supposed to do something with pulgar, and that I had used arps. Anyway, it's just an idea...
Cheers!
PS: Perhaps we should move this to the Audio / video uploads section to allow users to upload directly to the foro...

yes I think it should have its own place on the forum ,,, I still think the it should be called the Neverending Falsetas as one thing should lead to the next ..well forever .....
.........and are we posting Short video clips to see how it is played ( makes it easier to steal ...) or just sound clips in MP3 format ....??? I started something now bit dont expect greatness from me .....not this week comming anyway as I have a lot of family comming to stay for my sons first comunion ...( Gotta have an excuse at the ready ... )
RE: Composition Challenge/Game Idea (in reply to at_leo_87)
That's basically the same idea I had in my thread which Died, called " continue this falseta" , I guess you Explained it better than me and making it more fun and Interesting than what I originally had ;)

Ramzi, now that's what i'm talking about! dont worry about using arps. the first idea i had was picado. if you want to challenge yourself, you can make another one with thumb.
about recording, whatever you can record with, just go for it but i think video is always preferred.
i'll start a new thread tonight with official, more clearly stated rules, not that there are many.
i already have my idea too. i just have to record it.
edit: i just made a thread really quickly. i'll add more to it later.
