At first, things seemed to point to Tendonitis, but after a visit to an orthopedist, and the worst pain ive ever felt in my life, i learned i actually have Tenosynovitis. Inflammation of the sheath surrounding the tendon. Not to be confused with DeQuervain's Tenosynovitis.
Anyway, i'm going to be out of commision for a long time. I'm currently taking a course of methylprednisolone (steroids) and had to leave my teaching job. i start a long road of physical therapy in about 10 days or so.
Man are they right, it is indeed a "Special kind of pain"
And pray to God you never develop this stuff. It is extremely nasty. The pain is like, imagine you broke all your fingers, and then stick your hand inside a campfire until it starts to melt.

I'm glad a definitive diagnosis has been made, and the appropriate management plan pinpointed. I hope you recover and go back to being a great guitarist. Cheers!

hang in there man. hope the steroids will have a good effect.
my diagnosis is tendonitis in the flexor carpi radialis.. but it doesn't feel isolated to just the tendon so I would like another doc to check it out. sigh.. this **** can really get you down. if anything good comes out of this it will be learning to play guitar with much less tension, and also to pay more attention to general fitness and health. it's really hard not to kick yourself for being careless, allowing for this **** to take hold.. I think I had this coming much more than you. looking at you play you have neever seemed overly tense..
excersize, ice, stretching, massage, diet with good proteins, minerals and fats.. i put my hope to these things for now. if things won't progress, I guess I'll try the steroid shot

I´m very sorry to hear about you guys suffering. I hope you recover as soon as possible. Dont give up. There´s always a way out. I will tell you my personal pain story and hopefully it´ll help you. I suffer from a pain desease in my right hand. Its called Dupuytren´s contracture. Dupuytren's is a chronic, recurrent disease. Information here: http://www.eatonhand.com/hw/hw009.htm
I was under surgery some 12 years ago. My pinky was totally bent into the hand and I could hardly do anything with that hand. They took out the fascia and I was given 25 stings in the finger and hand by a specialist. Later a year of therapy. very painfull and I had to sleep with a splint for half a year. My still pinky cannot strech totally. theres always a 25 degrees bend on it. BUT it hasnt gone worse and since then I´ve learnt to play and build flamenco guitars. I have the fear that it´ll come back and that maybe next time it´ll be worse. But there´s a chance it wont... And my hope is that it´ll never show up again because you cannot play and build flamenco guitars with the fingers bent into your hand. I´ve reached the point where I dont worry very much. I give the finger a massage and I try using it a bit when playing rasgueados.
So chear up lads. Hopefully within long you´ll be back on track. Remember, life is a long story and its never to late to learn.

That really sucks man. I have always been pretty abusive on my hands....normally bad stuff goes away a day or so later. I am more rough on the left hand then right as if it is superman or something. Your story makes me think twice about being careless.
hang in there bro and keep us posted on progress!!!
